For all those of us who have seen X-Men 3, I have to say how disappointed I am. I waited thirteen years for the Dark Phoenix character to come to the screen, and even though Famke Jensen did a WONDERFUL job at portraying the character (when she was given the chance) the writers and the new director royaly screwed this one up. I find it really hard to believe that Chris Claremont and the original writers of the phoenix storyline would ever approve of this.

And Ill say it again...THERE WAS NOT EVEN A FRINKIN FIREBIRD! Do you understand how anti-climatic this was...first you take away the fabulous costume design of the Phoenix character...and her fabulous belt which was the best accessory ever for a comic character...and then you make the Phoenix some kind of alternate personailty for Jean Grey...COME ON!!!!! Screw the reality crap...give me my cosmic entiity! I was really sad that they barley even used her, especially toward the end when she did nothing during the battle until the very end, and what a rediculous way to kill her...again Wolverine overshadowed everything unnecessarily.

At the very least she could have injected herself with all those needles she stopped in the air...that would have been the closest thing to a ray beam of self-sacrafice on the moon! Famke did again, an amazing job of portraying the madness and psychotic persona of the Phoenix force, and none of this was her fault...but the writers really messed this up. This is what happens when a director with a passion for the characters leaves. I'm sure now the Superman movie is going to phenomenal.

X-3 was visually stunning, and as the saying goes..."If it doesn't work right, then make it look pretty." The movie was pretty, but with a very hollow character development and storyline X-3 is the most anti-climatic story arc of a trilogy I have ever seen. Watch the cartoon series from 90's if you want anything close to what it SHOULD have been.

And don't even get me started on how they tried to build last-minute suspense in the end...last minute suspense would have been giving me my belt and firebird!!!!!

allofyousuckkk
lol, i thought she should have had a bigger part at the end. Where could i get my hands on this "cartoon series from 90's" that you speak of.

Also, do they have the comics put together and made into huge comics with like 500 pages? I've seen it with superman and spiderman, not x men though. So ya

Ritoshi
The cartoon..ahh memories http://media.putfile.com/X-Fight- http://media.putfile.com/Wolvie-and-Cy

To bad the phoenix in this movie wasn't the phoenix force from the comics. would explain the no fire bird.

blink Singer knew nothing of the characters until he was tapped to direct X-Men.

IMO this was a fantastic movie and I applaud Ratner for not ruining it. You just have to remember that this is an alternate timeline and NOT what you see in the comics.

Arcane
i think it was ok, i mean being possessed by a supernatural being (were they in space when it happened in the comics) seems a little far-fetched, the next step in evolution fits better with the movies, especially with the ending in x2, so i liked the way phoenix was portrayed, when she used her powers she looked cool

Ritoshi
jean was the best wtf are you talking about people!!

Singer said he didnt want to make it all comic booky and new shit so um....never read comics as a kid the man said.. Ratner said he loved comcis but didnt read xmen but now he liked it and loved the 90s showings.

Mana4X2
I think she was done justice... however, I do agree seeing the flaming bird would have been interesting... I mean, the did show remnants of that reddish/orange power in X2, but I didn't see any of that in the third one... Did any of you?

Heck, I so need to see the movie again.

Cheers,
Mana

i totally agree with number2hikey... i thougth phoenix wasnt as great as she really is ment to be... she was kinda like a mad jean gray...i hated the third movie... even though it had great fighting and fx the story just sucked... how can they kill 3 of the most favorite xmen??? i wish they dont make the 4th one... i can see its just gunna go lower...

i do have 90% of the original x-men marvel comics... its worth a good amount of money .. but... what sux is that theyre back in brasil in my grammas house and theyre in portuguese... still... i have taped a good amount of the 90's x-men cartoons.... they were the best time for xmen....

I heard that Jean/Phoenix didnt die, that something was floating at her tomb stone and that the coffin was empty...then prff.x aint dead either...and i heard cyclops's body is being used my apoclypes for something....correcting me if im wrong..i just want to know the truth.

xmaniac
i just got back from the movie... i dont remember anything floating around her tomb... but i could be wrong since i was so pissed off jean didnt kill phoenix like in the real comics.... and after the credits xavier returns in that pacients body... and we never really saw cyclops dead.... so maybe we all could be seeing a sequal

I always thought that Jean was the strongest x-man (not just Jean but simply anyone with telekinetic powers) I also heard that she has 2 sons (X-man, and Cable "nathan"wink And they also have telekinetic powers so i guess the whole family is strong. Are any of her sons gana be in the next x-men movie ,?if anyone knows that is.

In this universe she never got pregnant so she never had her kids with Cyclops. Therefore Cable can't come back in time.

And correct she's had 3 kids. 2 boys and 1 girl.

soul self
Will she ever come back in the movies....i saw the cartoon(the old as hell one)and she does come back after the phoenix revives her. And who are the other 2 kids is x-man one of themoh u mean raichel summers.Who else has telekinesis one x-men.?

thorncrawler
there is x-man, his name is nate summers i believe, cant remember tho. cable, nathen summers from the future, and rachel summers is born in an alternate universe and goes by the name pheonix 2

LanceWindu
Well there is Nate Grey from the Age of Apocalypse universe (born in a lab), then Nathan Summers, aka Cable, from the 616 universe (born between Scott Summers and Madelyn Pryor a Jean clone)...and Rachel Summers from the Days of Future Past universe.

It's possible she will come back to the movies. Remember in the comics the Jean Grey/Phoenix wasn't the real Jean...but then again in the movies the Phoenix origin has been changed.

thorncrawler
nate gray that was it, thanks

thorncrawler
does havoc have any children?

Wikipedia came in handy in remembering the universes each were born in. laughing out loud

soul self
Thanks. That helped a lot. But do you think any of them will be in the next movie...i also noticed in the movie it had dates like 10years ago and not too distant future..maybe that will be a cover up to bring jean back...and maybe some of her kids.

thorncrawler
well both jean and scott and "missing"

soul self
What do you mean by missing...that thing i said about Jean's coffin being empty thats just what i heard..not what i saw...maybe it will be in the next x-men.

It wasn't in the movie that her coffin was empty...so it's non-canon according to the mythos of the films. Never count a character dead in X-Men though.

soul self
RIGHT!! espically one who didnt die the first time....HEY i also heard that Jean died 3 times in the old cartoon or comic book..which one is it and how did she die for each one.

I can't remember right now and don't feel like reading Wikipedia...I'll just link you and you can read all about her history.

I too have waited to see Dark Phoenix bought to the big screen for over ten years. Disappointed as I am to have not seen the firebird, I liked the effects used, and bow down to the wonder that is Famke Janssen for helping to create one of the most chilling movie characters EVER!

Just think about it...actually seeing the firebird on screen...that could go either awesomely or it could look like crap.

Thirteen years? Dark Phoenix first showed herself 26 years ago. This would show how old you are, I believe.
Chris Claremont himself has said the movies cannot be absolutely literal to the comics - "people would laugh at Logan in yellow spandex" he said - and so the emphasis is making this as realistic-looking as possible. No other kinds of superheroes, no otherworldly cosmics, just the mutants and the humans. They made Dark Phoenix as powerful as possible, without getting into cosmic, intergalactic events. That would require whole other movies to explain.

The "Not Too Distant Future" was just a group session in the Danger Room. Remember?

soul self
Does anyone have a link or know where i can dowload the old x-men episodes so i can see the whole phoenix saga.?

soul self
In the movie was jean the phoenix all the time? like when she killed professor, who was she Jean or Phoenix. When they were fighting her eyes were normal then later they turned black(i think that means it phoenix) and then she killed the prof. So who is she Jean or Phoenix. In the lab when Jean broke through she was worried and sad she even said "kill me" then she changed to Phoenix and took off. So is she Phoenix or Jean...the movie confused me.
