So what do you think? Should people try to avoid the sun at all costs? Should they enjoy the sun in moderation but be careful not to overexpose themselves? Or should people not worry too much about harmful effects from the sun at all?

This is a bit of a no-brainer, so I feel perfectly suited to offer my opinion:

Moderation is the key.

I think either way it is great, everyone should sunbath. Here's my reasoning.

If it isn't unhealthy, great, people should get a tan, makes them look hotter.

If it is actually unhealthy, even better, the people will look hot, and die young. And seriously, less people is always good.

I'd say it always depends on the person...some look better tanned some better pale....and that is obviously also subjective....so...whatever one likes I guess (now, over here there's not enough sun to really get tan....then I don't know since I am in front of my PC 24/7) .... I don't like sun burn.....claimk.

I'd say it depends on your genetic heritage. Just to add my 2 cents.

For me, the sun is a bad thing. Others can tolerate it well. I don't. It gives me skin cancer. And, while it's true that a good tan makes everyone look better, is death worth it?

And for those that do tolerate it well, but look like footballs...well, that's just sad.

So, I'll echo the moderation point.

I think it is like everything else.. and as Ya Krunk'd Floo said moderation is the key.. of course to much sun is unhealthy... but to much of pretty much everything is bad for you.

You need sunlight for various reasons--eg, production of vitamin D--but a tan isn't one of them. "Healthy tan" is an oxymoron: tanned skin = damaged skin, even moderately, but moderation's saving grace is that it minimizes the potential danger, such that most of us can get away with it.

The Dark Clouds..a horrible time....couldn't really go sunbathing back then....shame.

The sun is good for you. At least 20 mins a day helps with depression, I've read...........Dangerous??....It depends on how much pigment your skin has I think......I rarely get burned.....But I'm light olive complected.

My opinion on the sun is...If it weren't for the fact that it was necessary for life to survive and the Earth to rotate and all that sh*t...the sun should die!!

Its dangerous... I had a teacher say he used to sun bath all the time when he was a teen and in his 20s, but later was told he is at risk of getting skin cancer.

Oh yeah, those were great days back then. Don't be bitter and resentful though; there comes a time in every man's life when it's time to be un-Frenched. Sure, it's a little painful at first, but then were would scientific progress be without a little suffering? As for the 'little duck-stone-cell-phone incident', that was a cracker (in more ways than one!), but I don't think you deserved the roasting you got. Oh, I don't know...the clouds were dark, and everyone was dead, but hope survived...hope survived. So did sun-bathing. Well, the memory of it...

We shouldn't avoid the sun at ALL costs. Our body produces a lot of D-vitamins when the skin is exposed to UV-light...

But over-exposure, and exposure during the midday sun DOES greatly increase the risk of skin-cancer.

I know a woman who burned to death in a tanning bed.

Avoid it, it increases the risk of cancer.
