Whats more important?? What should take precedence in a created universe??
Can we have good stories, while still heeding Continuity?? Or should we toss it out the window, in favor of Freehand, as long as they keep stories compelling??

Examples of continuity being thrashed and buggered, are things like Superman taking the OE to little effect in OWAW.
Batman taking hits from an enraged Superman to only end up in traction.

More long terms shots at continuity, are Jason Todd being alive.

Batgirl turning rogue after coming to terms with issues in her own book.

Joe Q having Gwen Stacey sleep with and bear the children of Normie, the Green Goblin.

Sentry being more powerful than Dr.Strange, since he's beaten better than Bobbie boy.

Jonn still being weak to fire based attacks, though he handled Brimstone, a freakin Fire God, somewhat well!

Superman shrugging off his peers, though its been stated that he has them many times.

Wolverine surviving Napalm, though it should've killed him. His hf turning into regeneration....

Can the big C survive, and still allow for stories that are compelling and creative?? Does it just require more effort on the part of the writers??

It's almost impossible to have perfect continuity with todays books. The universes are too big with too much history with too many writers who have their own agenda.

Writters are the ones that scew up most of the stuff. If a writter likes a charecter TOO much : youll see stuff like Batman doging punches from the flash, or a wolverine punch(not stab) hurting the hulk.

The only explanation available for Batgirl's strange behavior is the Lazurus Pits that brought her back to life. They tend drive people crazy.

HOWEVER, they made a horrible retcon mistake by insinuating that Batgirl could read and write Navajo before she could speak.

Batgirl couldn't read or write to save her life. LITERALLY.

The wrong way is not understanding or reading up on a character to see what they've done in the past. I feel a character has to have some kind established and followed past and set limitations that they can push. I feel it makes them more appeal-able to the public and adds rich depth.

When a character goes around geting massive upgrades and doing things they've never been shown to be able to do before simply for sake of that story, it takes away from the character's past and makes them seem less approachable.

It also takes away from characters around them when a character is being raised to over shadow others. For instance when Superman before was getting owned by Darkseid and then they have him taking the OE simply for sake of story. Simply to make them godly for that issue you take away from the character of Darkseid.

I recall possibly the biggest sense of this being the Onslaunt Saga. In it many characters's past were disregarded and what they are capable was toned down so that Onslaunt could seem like a very powerful bad guy. Which takes away from Onslaunt as well. I can't take anything from that Saga or him seriously why because if the good guys aren't doing what they're capapble of then why should we consider Onslaunt so powerful.

Topping for the thinking man/woman.
