America the Beautiful...?

An interesting interperatation of one of this country's most traditional and patriotic songs.

The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama. Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for displaying the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer.
He has been stripped of his judgeship and now they are trying to strip his right to practice law in Alabama. The judge's poem sums it up quite well:

America the Beautiful,
Or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrims' pride;
I'm glad they'll never see.

Babies piled in dumpsters,
Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty;
Your house is on the sand.

Our children wander aimlessly
Poisoned by cocaine,
Choosing to indulge their lusts,
When God has said abstain.

From sea to shining sea,
Our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love
And a need to always pray.

We've kept God in our temples,
How callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool,
And Heaven is His throne.

We've voted in a government
that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges
Who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer
In a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby
Before he leaves the womb.

You think that God's not angry,
That our land's a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait
Before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,
From Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do,
But stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,
Will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face
And mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven
And forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land
And those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,
If you don't - then you will see,
A sad but Holy God
Withdraw His hand from Thee.

The poem is shit.

That he was fired is wrong though. I think as long as he sticks to the actual laws he should be able to put anything he wants in his courtroom (or well at least the part of it he is allowed to put things in).

Then if judges generally are not allowed to have any private ornaments in the courtrooms...that's a different matter. Still firing a judge for that seems unreasonable.

Incidentally, Katharine Lee Bates who wrote the poem, "America the Beautiful" is a lesbian.

Anyway, these kind of poems always irk me... not only because they a poorly done and all that. Uhhhg. A mesh of important angers presented in a way unsupported by facts or figures, just the literature butchers own social angers.

isnt it? sounds like some alien language when aimed at the far right.
but really its not ironic at all. far right neoconservatives seem to want a return to 1950. that is the ideal they have chosen, so when they say "love it or leave it" it usually pertains to their own set of 'values' which they have deamed to be 'america'. so this allows the double standard. you know, the ones who tore our commander in chief apart 8 years ago all of the sudden find that same official to be sacred and demanding of reverence. "love it or leave it" strangly didnt seem to apply the second bush sr. packed his bags and moved off capital hill.

(Around The World In A Day)

Yeah
Peace!

Aristocrats on a mountain climb
Making money, losing time
Communism is just a word
But if the government turn over
It'll be the only word that's heard

America, America
God shed his grace on thee
America, America
Keep the children free

Little sister making minimum wage
Living in a 1-room jungle-monkey cage
Can't get over, she's almost dead
She may not be in the black
But she's happy she ain't in the red

America, America
God shed his grace on thee
America, America
Keep the children free

Freedom
Love
Joy
Peace

Jimmy Nothing never went 2 school
They made him pledge allegiance
He said it wasn't cool
Nothing made Jimmy proud
Now Jimmy lives on a mushroom cloud

America, America
God shed his grace on thee
America, America
Keep the children free

America, America
God shed his grace on thee
America, America
Keep the children free

Freedom
Love
Joy
Peace

boom, boom, boom, boom
the bomb go
boom, boom, boom, boom
the bomb go boom.
Teacher, why won't Jimmy pledge allegiance?

But the best is and always will be 'The Star Spangled Banner' by Jimi Hendrix.

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that with the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

We wouldn't have so many kids wandering "aimlessly" if you people would get over the whole abortion issue. Also, all those people who are poisioned by cocain should keep breeding? And the only people who should give into lust should do so as "good christians" who use a condom so they can give into their lust without having to worry about the possiblity of abortion?
