Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

I do feel sad about Steve's demise. I always thought he was an irritating nut, but I still had some respect for the guy. He was brave and justified in his duties. He devoted his life to teaching people to not be afraid and to help animals in need. I hope his afterlife is filled with eternal hapiness. He deserves it.

Would you rather he used a tranquilizer or let the animal(s) rip the flesh off of one or more people? Exactly. Tranquilizers are in no way harmful, they just temporary put the animal to sleep for good causes.

I care. I really do. It's something I always think about. I knew someone who died during an operation, and they weren't talked about. I knew someone close to me that was killed at the hands of a drunk driver, and they weren't talked about and the guy got only one year in prison. So I do know of that feeling, and I always think about all of those people out there with those issues.

Sure, Steve loved animals, was entertaining, but he shouldn't be admired like he is. He shouldn't be looked up to like this. The man was an imbecile. You can teach others about conservation and wildlife without going out there are practically throwing yourself into its jaws. He's been bitten by poisonous snakes, had his hands/other body parts bitten by crocs and various animals. For goodness sakes, how much longer did you expect the man to live?

Steve Irwin is not a real-life hero. A hero is someone you should model yourself after. If we tell our kids that Steve is a hero, then tell them to idolize their heroes, to try to be like their heroes, we'll have a bunch of dead kids on our hands. And you know why they'll be dead? Because they attempted Steve's tricks and got them selves eaten/poisoned/otherwise killed.

Steve was ALWAYS under proper care and it doesn't matter if he had 90 different scuba divers surrounding him, the chances of it all happening would STILL be very great because things happen unexpectedly and cannot be controlled.
