why do the killers always have to wear a mask?

^exactly and would it really work if say Michael Myers walked round without one? or Jason?

Michael's face was fine but not scary....well it would be now cause it would be all burnt and stuff. As for Jason he was disformed and so it may have worked for him with or without a mask.
