This has been bothering me
Basically, I realised that none of us actually exist (stay with me here). As no one will ever know the true you, and you can argue this point all you like, but no one except for you will ever truly know you. People can have a pretty good idea, but when it comes down to it, it is physically impossible for anyone to know the real you, all your thoughts, feelings and reactions. We perceive people in different ways, and our perceptions are all that carry on. You see, once you die, you cease to exist, however people’s perceptions of you remain, so you won't live on, but how people see you will. For example, every one of you reading this will see me in a different way, but none of those ways is how I see me, even though some of you may be closer than others. So, the way I see myself and others is in essence unique. It is my own world, my own society, just like you all have your own. So yes, the world does revolve around ourselves. It's not selfish, it's human nature. Everything we do benefits us. (Feel free to argue that point to, but when it comes down to the core, it's also true.)
So then I got to thinking that if we are nothing but a perception, and perceptions can change (which also means that people can't change, only others perceptions of them can) then are we not all in a collective consciousness? We are all perceptions, we are all dreams, we are not real, and we are just a consciousness, a collective state of perceptions and sub-reality.
This then made me wonder what this reality must be based on, and think about it... time is the answer. We are told when it is one am, we are told when it is eight pm, but who is to say that this is right? And if time on a clock is circular, then what is to stop actual time being circular? What is to say that our linear perception of time is right? What if time was just a loop? A loop that we can't get out of? But then would realising this loop break it? It's like the solar system; the moon revolves around the earth, much like our perceptions revolve around us. In turn both of these objects and all the planets revolve around the sun (the collective consciousness) now; can we break from this ever-lasting loop, just like a stray moon can? Or is it already pre-determined that we will continue to loop forever?
But you see, time is the foundation on which we all stand, and what happens if you knock down the foundations? Everything crumbles... So, if by realising that time is just a perception, and is not linear, but on a loop, am I causing my foundation (perception of time) to crumble away? Well... Yes. And as we are all in our own society with our own perceptions all I am doing is causing my world... or in essence my mind... to crumble... So by realising all of this... I'm sending myself crazy.
Seriously, I've spent days thinking about this now and I really am going out of my mind.
Someone please help me.
