whats your favorite war movie?

amity75
I have to go for "Das Boot" also, even though those German bas*ards bombed my grandmothers house the ending made me feel so sad for them. These were normal guys only carrying out instructions.

jaden101
das boot is ace indeed

der untergang (downfall) is also tremendous

brotherhood, in my opinion, stands out as a masterpiece....

Lighthammer
Full Metal Jacket

-Tired Hiker-
Probably 'Starship Troopers'. Seriously.

Lighthammer
Hey I didn't know that sci fi war movies counted. Then I changing mine. Aliens, and it is a war movie.

Koenig
The classic Das Boot, Stalingrad and Downfall are in a league of there own.

As for war fiction I would go with Cross of Iron.

Dusty
Favorite war movie, eh?

I want to say, "The Dirty Dozen". If you would consider it, anyway.

Röland
Platoon

The Pict
Brotherhood, a movie about the Korean civil war. I rarely feel sad at a movie but I did with this one, it is absolutely astounding.

Solo
"The Thin Red Line" (1998), unless you count "The New World" as one.

bakerboy
Many: apocalypse now, platton, paths of glory, full metal jacket, patton, the longest day, the thin red line, etc.

JohnnyDo3
Commando lol "i'll be back bennet" Bennet: " i'll be waiting john"

~Da Rev~
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon
Gettysburg
Gods and Generals
Saving Private Ryan

all of those are damn good.

SnakeEyes
Probably Saving Private Ryan.

exanda kane
Apocalypse Now is beyond them all in "masterpiece" credibility. By a long way.

Full Metal Jacket, Platoon can be enjoyable, but not as wonderful as the Great Escape.

T.M
Apocalypse Now is probably my favourite.

Though Jarhead is up there for me.. it showed a different aspect to war than other films of the genre.

manorastroman
for sheer virtuosity, saving private ryan. people were shitting their pants about the children of men cinematography, when the best sequences were just diet versions of saving private ryan.

General G
Saving Private Ryan, awesome. I haven't seen Flags of our Fathers yet, but I think it will be good.

Mr Parker
It amazes me that nobody ever mentions Flight of The Intruder when discussing favorite war movies. Its not near as well known as the classics like Platton Apocalypse Now and Full Meatl Jacket so people usually dont think of it.I myself forgot to mention that movie for a long time when these discussions about favorite war movies came up because it never gets mentioned.Took me a long time to remember that film since it did not do well at the box office. You all should see it.I think it is easily by far maybe not the best one.theres lots fo really good ones, but its by far the most EXCITING one in my opinion and very well done.

ragesRemorse
Band of brothers is my favorite ware movie series depiction.

The deer hunter and BOFJ are probably the most succesfull in the way of highlighting the effects that war can have on an individual.

Troy and braveheart are my favorite historical fantastical war flicks

Empire of the sun is also up there on my list aswell

snowultra
mine is saving private ryan

The Hawk
Saving Private Ryan

Glory

sithsaber408
Saving Private Ryan is the best.

Enemy at the Gates is pretty good too.

RedAlertv2
Saving Private Ryan is definitely my favorite. But recently I watched Apocalypse Now, and it was amazing, to say the least. Other favorites of mine are Jarhead, Platoon, and Full Metal Jacket. Jarhead isnt as good as the others, but I like its unique approach

noelluvspotter

No doubt it would be saving private Ryan for me, sheer genius

There was a point in my life (round about when i was 14 years old) where I was addicted to watching all the war movies, I think it was when medal of Honor first hit the PS2.

Other favourites would be Apocalypse Now, Pearl Harbour and Windtalkers

Also I haven't heard Windtalkers or Perl Harbour being mentioned, people love to diss Pearl Harbour but for me I found it very entertaining....barr the love story miffed

More of a journey set in a war torn environment.

RedAlertv2
Meaning it is, essentially, still a war movie. To suggest otherwise would be a bit ridiculous.

edwinian
Love this movie. Gets better every time!

i don't know if Schindler's list and Dr. Strangelove count because they don't deal so much with soldiers in battle, but if they do then those would be at the top of the list. otherwise its Saving private Ryan and Apocalypse Now for me.

AngryManatee

BackFire

I like Tears of the Sun by Bruce Willis. Tears of the sun is a 2003 war film directed by Antonie Fuqua depicting a rescue mission by US Navy Seals in the midst of Nigerian civil was The film stars Bruce Willis as the commander of the seal team sent into the middle of this conflict to rescue a US Citizen played by Monica
Bellucci(Dr. Lena Kendricks) who runs a mission in the country side.

Vietnam War: Full Metal Jacket

Cold War: K-19: The Widowmaker

Civil War (USA): Glory

WWI: Paths of Glory

It was tough, and I'd have to rewatch fifty some-odd movies to be certain. Nice topic, though.
