True Heart ~ Worlds Apart
written by Sarah Jackson

Alatariel sat on the wall and sighed a heavy sigh. She kicked the grass that lay underneath her foot and twirled her long dark brown hair in her hand. There was never anything to do in this place, no other teenagers to play with. Her life was somewhat of a bore. She looked over to where the elders were and jumped off the wall. The Elders were in a meeting. One that had lasted for a few days. Ever since Yorol had returned from his travels. Alatariel tried to use her inner eye to get into the conference like she had done on many of other occasions but the Elder had blocked this one. Something just wasn't right. Alatariel felt it in her heart. It was another one of the powers that Alatariel processed. One that often got her into alot of trouble with the Elders.

Alatariel loved it when visitors of other lands would visit her land.. she would sit there for hours listening intensely to the tales of their adventures. Alatariel longed to have such adventures of her own, but the Elders wouldn't hear of such nonsense.

Yorol was one of the visitors that Alatariel adored. He was a few years older than her but Yorol had stolen her heart from the first time she set her eyes on him. And the feeling was mutual. Yorol was totally in love with Alatariel. They would normally sit together for hours and go for long walks. Where he would tell her of his tales. She had long awaited his arrival, and normally as soon as she had sensed his arrival her heart beamed with such joy. He would normally pick Alatariel up and twirl her around, But this time was different on his arrival she felt a sharp pain in her heart. One that made her scream in agony. She didn't wait for the Elders to come to her to see what was wrong, because she somehow knew that they felt it too.

She ran out of the village in flood of tears using all her powers to find Yorol. Who indeed was badly injured. As soon as she found her loved one laying on the grass. She noticed that his garments were torn and dirty. She noticed that he had been severely beaten. She collapsed on the floor and cradled his weak defenseless body in her arms. As soon as the Elders got to where she was she noticed that they were looking at one of his wounds. It was oddly shaped like the initial D. They quickly took Yorol's body and hurried back into the village..

Alatariel never left Yorol's side until today. Day and night she would sit with him, attended his wounds, bathed him and sang to him soft melodies of love and joy. Alatariel wiped away the tears that had fallen from her eyes and made her way to the Elders who were waiting for her arrival.

Alatariel made her way into the empty seat.. The Elders looked upon her as she sat down and she smiled at them weakly..She had no idea why she was called upon but she would soon find out.
