There are some series that warrant sequels and some that should be left alone after the first.

At a possible franchise, a lot of people I talk to say the series should end at #3. So I ask, why is three the magic number?

Hell, even the I Know What You Did Last Summer crapped out another sequel this year just to get the third movie out there.

Is it merely to get the nice "trilogy" title? Why is four movies too many and three is just right?

I hope this makes sense.

There are (usually) 3 parts of a movie. So why shouldn't there be 3 parts of a series?

A well-planned trilogy, sure. But the Terminator trilogy isn't in the same structure. They're just sequels, made because the previous was so big.

Just look what happened with Robocop. Need I say more?
