I don't like this title, it is old and sounds like a book. That mask of steel after Jor-Els speech..."my only son"...yes, probably that was the inspiration. Somehow I get the feeling nobody likes "sequels" but a brand new story. I'd like to know who's going to be the villain...they said next year. I have already made my decision. And I also have a cloud vision. Part 1: Darkseid is too arrogant, Metallo needs more power. Part 2: Brainiac is a perfect creation but is lacking performance, Doomsday is a bit unstable. Part 3: Mr. Mxyzptlk is not he's own boss. Part 4: Parasite, Lobo, Bizarro are not serious stuff. Part 5: Zod is been hidden, they regret creating a villain much like a hero. I typed on search <Zod comic first appearance> and shows a wrong cover.

Man of Steel was a Superman comic for years... guess it'll do...

But if u turn it the other way around like he did to the plane is going to lose a wing! Here's why. Superman: Man of Steel (superman+zod or metallo) Superman: Data of Krypton (superman+brainiac) of of of blah blah blah...I don't agree.

Fits with the Batman Begins sequel being named The Dark Knight. Using character nicknames would be a nice naming scheme for all their future movies.

Let me tell you how I would like Brainiac to be. Brainiac is only artificial intelligence much like skynet from terminator. It did not destroy Krypton just took advantage of the natural disaster by taking possession of one of their best spacecrafts...a ship and a soul, no passenger. Made its escape and consumed resources from other planets...again, much like the crystal identity from Star Trek NG. I also want Brainiac to preserve a small Krypton with Kara in it moments before the planet blew to attempt liberally further studies on them. When it arrives on Earth it finds similarity in likeness of both races and decides to choose. This allows Kara to escape but the others which were very few didn't make it. Brainiac becomes one of the Earth people and confronts both S & K. Kara dies in the explosion of the ship. Brainiac is a robot in the animated series but I'd leave that to Metallo. This is just a fan commentary.

Zod is the physical match of Superman, tough to beat and smart. In film history movie 2 always had the best action...the middle paragraph of compositions. Bring many scenes on Krypton with no need of Jor-El...a combination of narrative events and memories.

So you didn't like the title: Conan the Destroyer? (C'mon, how many other destroyers are there that aren't named Conan?)

I can see your point, but I don't think anything is wrong with that. It's a nickname, it helps describe the character of the main character. Wonder Woman - Feminazi Manhater - see? Just helps describe the character.

Superman: Man of Steel? Well, to be honest, I hated Superman Returns. But Man of Steel doesn't bother me as a title.

I don't think adding a nickname of a character to a title hurts the movie anyway, it's what you see after the title is displayed.

Conan is a character with ambitions and self growth. Superman helps humanity and does not need a nickname. I would prefer plot based titles.

They're trying to Batman's "Dark Knight" (2008) title where they're not gonna have the superhero's name in the title.

Take the lead of progress. Look back to correct things.

For the villain, it cannot be Zod (since he died in part 2, and superman returns is a continuation of the previous superman movies so therefore nothing short of a ressurection could bring him back) and it cannot be doomsday (since he is dubbed as "The Being Who Killed Superman" and therefore casting his character in the next superman installment would make people think, "This is where superman dies", which probably wont happen)

Honestly, I cant really think of any other character apart from lobo, darkseid or mr mxyzptlk playing the villain (brainiac's technology is so unbelievable i dont think a lot of people are gonna buy it) or unless the director does something stupid like bringing lex luthor back.

This wasn't Superman 5. You're wrong. Like Batman Begins, Superman also begins. They want to hear people like you, that's why they haven't make it clear.

The sequels cannot have Superman on the title, he has a son and Superman is Kal-El not Jason.

eradicator would be a very good choice for a villain.

Yeah I like this potential title too. It just sounds so cool and epic. I can see how Warner brothers is trying to tie Superman with the Batman franchise, since they're both now going to use their catchy subtitles as their movie name. "The Dark Knight" and "The Man of Steel" are pretty much the only two comic titles that instantly remind the audience as to who they're talking about. And at the same time they just sound continuous, i.e. they just perfectly sound like the middle ground of a trilogy franchise. Now if the third film is called "Superman Forever" than that is a dream come true.

On a related note I was one of the big fans of the second Spiderman movie being originally called "The Amazing Spiderman". Certainly much better than just Spiderman 2. And again, "Spiderman Forever" would've been great as the third title.

Brandon Routh: "Well, there's a lot of talk about Brainiac. Everyone wants to see Brainiac. But I tell you what, in the Superman Returns video game, you get to play as Bizarro. Bizarro's pretty fun; you can have some fun with that. So I would lean towards one of those. With Brainiac there's a lot of possibilities there. He's another mastermind villain so he can create any number of evil things."

Superman Returns was a love letter to Richard Donner. Will Bryan Singer now make Superman his own?

Brandon Routh: "Certainly. Bryan had a huge feat on his hands. He had to recreate Superman for the 21st generation with a huge gap since the last film came out. He also has a new guy in the pipes, so he had a lot of hurdles to leap. He did a fantastic job. You have to make the character real and believable and lovable again, so he did that in a fantastic way. Now the world is his oyster. He can do whatever he wants now because he's put Superman back to where he should be."

i know, but his other story arc is him being possesed. Not so much the eradicator himself. He is a good guy, built by Jor-el to watch Kal-el

I'm all for Brainiac in the next Superman. Mostly I just want to see them get some real supervillains on the silver screen this time. Lets see someone who can cause some real sh*t (besides Lex). I've seen the whole "mind of muscle" villainy of Lex again and again, I want someone who can fight Superman with his fists, not just his mind. I wanna see some punches thrown and some heat vision ownage. I loved SR it was a great beginning for the new kids who don't know anything about Supes besides maybe Smallville (where Clark isn't Superman yet) Singer did a great reintroduction of Supes to the world, now its time to get down to business. Braniac I think is the obvious and best choice for the villain in the next Superman movie. That being said I hope Brandon was kidding about the Bizarro thing, cause...that would just be stupid.

He has a sense of humor. But bringing Brainiac on 2 would be rushing things. Don't say I didn't warn.

hmmm theyre shooting for 2009... my guess is that it will be out a little before that like christmas 08 or if we are lucky summer 08. because when they guesstimate these dates/years they like to over compensate for time and script problems. i like the idea too that it will be more like a comic book/action flick and not as dramatic, even though i really have no problem with drama but i REALLY want to see some nice eye candy/ cgi effects with superman kicking ass. its about time.

Dates are my main concern. I would like six movies made in short. Let's make history!

Umm... nope.

They won't start shooting it till the spring/summer of next year.(2007)

Digital effects work on films of this size takes 1year to a year and half. (including pre-vis animatics, which may take place before/during shooting)

As the effects are being worked on, you have to edit the footage thats been shot live action, and then wait for digital effects to get close to finished so that you can make any changes necessary.

Then you add sound effects and music.

Plus, you have to set up marketing (posters, trailers, and toys) and promo deals with fast food chains and others.....


So all-in-all, it takes about 2 years (for an effects-heavy action spectacle like Superman) from the start of filming the actors until it comes out.




So ends "Big-Budget Event Films 101".

well, i know for a fact that film music is usually recorded within five to six weeks before opening day, allot of what you said can be done simultaneously, i know that they worked on digital shots for Revenge of the Shit while they were shooting live action. it really is all relative to how much money goes into pre production and how big the pre-vis/visual effects/concept design crew is. it took the bruckheimer crew only two years to complete dead mans chest i think. i may be wrong with that one though...

ZOD didn't die he was returned to the phantom zone. but i wouldn't like to see ZOD in the next film either.

In the next film I'd like to see a new trio, working together at points, brainiac and luthor working together, obviously lex using brainiac, they create bizarro, except he can be really mean looking, not like the oaf in the comics and anime. all hell can break loose with them three in a story of superman, then the coming of doomsday in the third, lex included

There aren't real good option for continuing the reloaded Supes franchise unless DC Begins extending the movie universe of his characters.A plot like that of JLU for Doomsday would be silly, considering a whole JLA formation was wrecked from him.The pantheon of characters is too poor to have a chance of picking up someone without making big mistakes.Maybe Parasite and some other members of Supes rogue galleries acting together, or someone like Darkseid, who'd need let's say a hour to be exposed and explained, then for the rest of the movie, the fight with Kal El on his planet, ending like in the TAS episode where his citizens takes him away to heal him, with DS saying:
I am many things Kal El...but here, I AM GOD.

I always thought the title "Last Son of Krypton" would have been awesome for a superman movie title, especially if we could get some scenes of life on krypton into the movie.

I'd like the film to show commitment to the comics, but the story doesn't really have to be 100% tied to them, so maybe the krypton scenes could tell our villain's story and interact him with krypton/kryptonians in some sort of way, "dare i say" even he he never went there in the comics.

And he could end up on earth and a meeting with superman purely by chance or by some other way, instead of the usual yarn of, I'm for revenge for what ur father did to me, all those years back in the scenes they just watched etc....

In fact he could of purely have visited krypton and did some villain things (for purpose of movie scenes) without even having to have met jor-el.

Maybe the p[lot could even thicken with the return of lex luthor too (i liked spacey's darker luthor compared to hackmans clown).
What if our galactic villain, knows that one day in the space age future lex luthor will cause him great stress/maybe death.
He comes to earth to find/kill lurthor, causing mass destruction in his path, so superman has to stop him.

Then instead of the usual good guy vs bad guy, we could have a complex ed roundabout of a plot of Lex trying to kill superman, while superman tries to stop villain killing lex.
superman should just let villain kill lex, but his morals are too good.

lol sounds like a carry on film lol, but has enough in it to see his no.1 villain lex, a super villain to match him physically and also the triangle roundabout story has enough options for twists and turns.

Some people are thinking to far ahead, chances are there will be 3 films including SR Returns (maybe more but i hope not). In the next one I would really like to see brainiac show up and maybe team up with Lex to create a Superman clone (bizzaro) that goes horribly wrong lol. All i really want for the next film is action, I want to see Supes knocking people in to orbit, frieing robots with his heat vision just basically a lot more action and actually fighting with some one. Then of course for the third, it has to be either Doomsday or Darkseid. Can you imagine how fuking amazing it would be to have Darkseid in the third film? All out brawl between them on apokolips, wow orgasmic to say the least.

that or a massive fight with doomsday, either would be a treat to watch

Bryan Singer wanted to include General Zod in Superman Returns, and had ask Jude Law, his only choice, for that role. That idiot declined that offer, likely because he dun wanna be remembered as a villain but a pathetic ladies 'heartthrob' so-called, venturing in films like The Holiday where he merely cries like a baby. Singer then dropped the idea, which makes me hate Jude Law for-ever. He dun deserve to be Zod!

I think they should not include an alien character as a villain in the superman films, cos tt's too comic-ky, but follow the style of Spider-man..choosing villains who were ordinary ppl initially. Not many in the superman canon though.

The idea of giving him a kid was just wrong...and you know they'll never just kill him off in the next movie. As for villains, Luthor will probably return, but I'm hoping that Brainiac is the main villain, and I'm hoping its more along the lines of the "twisted HAL 9000" version rather than an alien in a purple jumpsuit and short shorts. If they don't do Brainiac and like, a smaller villain like Parasite or Metallo for a fight scene or two.....then it would have to be either Doomsday or Darkseid. Otherwise it'll be a waste of a movie.

When you think about it, we've been screwed with Superman movies. Out of FIVE movies, we've had two villains, basically.

For this movie to be good there's going to need to be a ton of action in it. I'm hoping that they will lean more towards the "hero in jeopardy" type of story & have Superman going up against enemies that can actually kill him. AND NO MORE GREEN ROCKS DAMMIT!!!

He should face off against some one like parasite or metallo and then have a bigger villain appear later in the movie like brainiac, doomsday or darkseid.

I liked SR better than any of the previous Superman movies. (No joke.)

I am excited about a new superman movie. I want superman to actually have powers in this movie, not some watered down crap like in SR.

I would like to see Darkseid, Doomsday would be a poor choice and is a gimmick character.

For I'll say Darkseid or Hankshaw....would be the coolest to see.

I want to see Metallo or Mongul. But most likely if it boiled down to these two we'd end up getting Metallo.

I wouldn't mind having brainiac, metallo or even Darkseid as Villians in "The Man of Steel" as long there is more action, I don't want to see Zod in the new movies because in my mind he died in Superman II and then it would feel like they are just doing a remake of it! Doomsday would be cool for the third or fourth where we all know what happens!
I like the title "The Last Son of Krypton" for a future movie as well.

We've done the 'Death of Superman' storyline in SUPERMAN RETURNS already. Doomsday will not be seen on screen in a Singer movie.

cool I wonder who they are going to use as a villian or what actor. I liked superman returns but I didnt like when the movie started off when he came back from some where, now that was confusing. I think they also could have picked a better Lois Lane. I like the whole idea of the kid being a superboy, that was cute.

what i would like to see from this movie is superman getting his ass kicked like spiderman did in the movies. i mean spiderman had a bomb detonated right next to his face, he fell a few stories high, he got stretched by a train. i want to see superman in that kind of constant struggle and pain.

plus, i think that big villains like darkseid and doomsday would be brought into the franchise way late, if ever. those are BIG baddies involving a lot of back story.

I think it would be cool if they used a lesser known villain, like Preus or Manchester Black and the Elite

I just read on Development Heck that the new Supes has been put on hold while WarnerBros pushes their Routh & Bale-less JLA film.

I piss on JLA. It will be the big screen crossover blunder of all time. Let these superheroes have a life of their own for a good, long while before going crossover crazy.

I tell you what. If the damn Smallville fans blow their wad on JLA because Tom (I-ain't-never-gonna-come-close-to-Chris-Reeves) Welling stretches his balls sack into blue tights for the film, and JLA is a success...AND...Warner ends up canning Routh in favor of a Welling reboot...

Superman returns was a pile of crap any way. The JLA is hardly a crossover, most of the heroes in the JL are better known for that role rather than individualy. I dunno I just hope they can make this JLA movie better than any thing so far I will lose all faith in WB comic movie adaptions if they **** it up.

spiderman 3 wasn't that great because of too many villains being chucked into the storyline, so i'd rather have a main villain and a annoyance, in the sequels... dont get me started with the JLA movie, that t shouldn't be made until superman 2 comes out, atleast or even batman 3

If you are saying Supes and the Bat are better known for their involvement in JLA...you are a totally wrong. JLA is the dumbest book on the planet...and was created specifically to be a CROSSOVER book in the hopes that all the Supes fans, Bat Fans, Lantern...etc...would jump on board and it would sell more than anyone title.

That is the same mentality behind a JLA film. Greed.

WEll i just spent a buttload of time responding to something just to be told i couldn't include certain things cause i wasn't known well enuf....POS. Anyway i just wanted to say that DOOMSDAY would be a cool next villain however that shouldn't happen until a JLA movie is done....and I'm not talking about the one that's underway....WARNER BROS will need to recover from that one if they are using actors that aren't even related to current titles. Perhaps the next superman movie ...after MAN OF STEEL could be THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN ...thus bringing in some of the JLA since they were there in the DEATH OF SUPERMAN storyline....not in the cartoon movie that just came out....as for MAN OF STEEL 2009 what do you all think of either bizarro...or even GOG? gog could put supermanin life threatening situations that lex can't, by physically matching superman, so far i have not seen that in the movies, (he seemed to be stronger than all three evil kryptonians in the older superman films so that would be new and refreshing, plus a lot more action, these dudes could end of throwing planets at eachother, i'd pay to see that kind ott action that the superman franchise possesses

Amen to that!! I just wanna see something fresh. I dont mind if LEX is in the next one....but let him be a minor threat...like back in prison...or in hiding ...secretly building his empire. Let Lex rest and lets put a movie together that really threatens and gives meaning to what it would be like to have a REAL Superman in our lives. Falling planes are nice saves....but lets try cataclysmic encounters....something that has to be fought in spacce...Something new like that.

jla comics have had some pretty high points in the last few years, and its one of the more prestigious books at DC nowadays...

personally, i like seeing the heroes team up, because sometimes they need to work together to fight threats that are beyond them as individuals...



also, canning the next movie in favour of something else: definitely a good thing in my book...

I'd like to see superman come out before this JLA spin otherwise it could ruin both franchises, just for something as small as different actors

For continuity's sake that would only work if they cast Routh and Bale as their respective characters in the JLA movie, or did an entire reboot of the Superman film franchise. Preferably the first option.

On the issue of villains though; Metallo would be plausible (and more interesting than simply Luthor again) considering there's bound to be some remnants of the moutain of Kryptonite from Superman Returns, although Brainiac seems like a pretty good option.

And with the declaration that one of the villains would be "alien", I had the strange (and very disloyal to the comics) idea of having Superman's son be some kind of sick, twisted creation of Luthor's; making him a product of a Kryptonian-Earthling cross-breeding artificial insemination experiment.

Throw in accelerated growth of some kind, a way for Luthor to make him hate Superman (the experiments could have resulted in weakened inhibitors and emotions making him susceptible to brain washing, or simply continuous psychological trauma under the guise that Superman was responsible for them. A break down in the relationship between Lois and her boyfriend/fiance/husband/partner, who the boy acknowledges as his father, would help. Or his death), training in how to use his powers (Luthor hacked the Fortress of Solitude, which is where Superman learnt how to become Superman, once: he can do it again. As for the speed in which the kid learned...enhanced memory and information retention as a result of the experiments?) and as a result of the experiment's failure: gradual degradation of his mind and body.

Namely: Bizarro. And back to my original point he would be considered alien due to the fact he's half Kryptonian. Well I thought it might make for an interesting twist .

This would be quite a rebuke; after years of torturous development and false starts to erase the memory of the rancid Superman IV, a new film finally comes out and falls a bit short of expectations. So they just walk away and consign him to Justice League films only? Superman deserves better. This makes him definitely No. 2 at DC behind Batman, instead of being co-leader.

it was on for 2009 until the writers strike pushed it back to a possible 2010 by the earliest...which sucks

They would have been better off doing:

An alternate Universe type story like in "Created Equal"...where he actually had a son with Lois...(only because he was the last man on earth)

or better yet,
Mark Waid's Superman: Birthright(back to the beginning)

it was a pitch he and several writers made a while back at DC, to modernise superman and bring him into the 21st century... unfortunately the editor didnt take kindly to it, so it was never used...

Although I thought Superman Returns was a good movie, I thought it was terrible SUPERMAN movie. A movie with Mark Millar writing sounds awesome. I always thought that BIRTHRight would make a badass movie
