Rogue Jedi
which are the most commonly violated?
Rogue Jedi
i voted envy, but lust is a close second, i think.
Imperial_Samura
I voted pride simply because it is the only one of them I feel with any great frequency, though to be honest I think pride is a good thing, in moderation.
I should be proud when I do something that justifies that pride.
Rogue Jedi
lust is a big one. what about every time you see a fine honey and you think about where you want to bite her/him?
ThePittman
Greed I thinks tops them all, at least in modern society
Rogue Jedi
yup. the rich get richer, while.....you know the rest.

I should be proud when I do something that justifies that pride. I agree totally, the pride that is a sin is defined in Mormon theology as this:
Rogue Jedi
envy is a big one too, because when we see rich people, we want to be like them, or have what they have.
debbiejo
Gluttony...........Good think vegetarians are going to heaven.
the US is going to hell..........
Rogue Jedi

Rogue Jedi

*ignites lightsaber and defends all innocent puppies*

Lets talk about Satan CLAWS then........
And when the Lord Jesus was tempted of Santa (correction: Satan) in the wilderness.... (Matt 4:10) ...And up pops Satan (Correction: Santa) Claus, with white hair and beard and a red suit - a FAKE saviour. ...So since the LORD comes from the North, then of course the Santa-god would do the same. The Bible says of Santa (Correction: Satan) ...(Isa 14:13) So Satan's (Correction: Santa's) workshop is "said to be" in the NORTH! ....and not be ashamed if you are teaching your children to be ready to meet Santa (Satan). They'll grow up and DIE, and BURN in the lake of FIRE FOREVER
Rogue Jedi
dont make fun of santa. or the easter bunny.

Already way ahead of you.
I reckon it has something to do with keeping the unhappy masses in place. After all, if you have the poor being envious of the rich (nobility and clergy/priesthood), wanting their riches or whores or rich food and blankets, well, that could get deadly for the rich, since there has always been more poor then rich.
Best make the poor fearful of wanting what others have, lest that wanting lead them to take it by force (with wrath) - so no envy, greed or lust.
Of course you don't want them getting lazy and thinking "well, I'll never have what the rich have, so why bother working the fields and giving it all to the nobles?" - so no being slothful.
And you don't want them getting proud with their lot in life, because that gives people delusions of grandeur - so pride is a threat to ones immortal soul.
I've been told I'm to cynical, but I don't think a person can ever be to cynical.
Rogue Jedi
depends on the person.

Meh, I'm talking a potential socio-political origin for the seven deadly sins, and it would be a effective way of insuring social stability (read preventing social reform.)
After all, if you believe wanting money (greed) or something someone else has (envy) will lead your soul to hell it is unlikely you'll one day take up your pitchfork and flaming torch and storm the local granary/lords castle with the rest of the starving peasantry/plebeians.
Nellinator
I would say lust, because promiscuity and sexual immorality is rampant in North Ameria. I also, personally struggle with lust at times, though I mostly overcame it when I became Christian.

It are those sins which have the most serious impact on spiritual development.
Lord Urizen
1) Shouldn't Hypocrisy be the 8th ?
2) Shouldn't Hatred be up there too ?
3)Lust is natural, and not intentional. It doesn't belong there
4)GREED is a Sin that most Republicans are very guilty of. You go RIGHT WING !
5)Pride is supposedly our greatest Sin, but WRATH and ENVY are GOD's greatest sins.
Nellinator
Ah, but the definition of lust is different than natural physical attraction. Perverse sexual thoughts are sinful while being able to recognize physical beauty is not. There is a difference to be sure.
usagi_yojimbo
I think we are all guilty of these sins at some point or another -- the main focus after commiting such sin should be, can or do we believe in God's ability to forgive these sins, and do we believe in God's ability to overcome them. As I grow more in my faith, I have much confidence in God's ability to overcome all sin. For as Christ so truthfully stated, greater is he that is of me - then he that is of the world.

I would say that hatred is a result of these roots.
And isn't hypocrisy really just doing these things when you shouldn't?

Recognizing beauty is not lust.
Lust is intense sexual attraction, not merely visual or physical.
Lust is not one's choice. If people had a choice in what thier sexual desires were, then everyone would choose what was most convienent for them, and there would be no struggle.

No..Hypocrisy is telling someone else not to do those things, when you do them yourself.

Well the poll is which is the most common. I think in the US it is gluttony.

Lust can be controlled. I know because I used to struggle with it. Humans can control their urges and train their thoughts to overcome adverse behavior. Lust can be controlled.

I know, I sorta just made you say what I wanted. Hypocrisy is not a sin in itself, rather the things that make them a hypocrite are. Plus its idiocy...

*shuts up now*
OK, just looked........lol.......lets condemn those others when we eat lard and crap and say a prayer of thanks.............AMEN GOD...THANKS FOR IT ALL.......Oh,and heal my sister/brother/friend/..etc.................Oh blessed god.
Strangelove
Gluttony, because it doesn't apply to just food, but all forms of over-indulgence, and no one can deny that that is rampant these days.
Rogue Jedi
especially among young people.
usagi_yojimbo
I think pride is the deadliest, it causes people to sin in so many other ways - and is usally the starting point of all the others listed. Those who are prideful - usually start questioning small things about God's authority, which leads them to sin in other ways.
Pride and lust are the two sins I've struggled with the most in my life. But as I've stated before - I truly believe that the spirit of Christ that indwells within all of his servants, is strong enough to overcome any type of sin.
