Why does this forum have so few threads about quality comics?

I see so few threads about comics that are critically acclaimed like Ex Machina, Fables or even Justice. It doesn't even have a discussion thread for novel comics ideas like the 52. All I see is people talking about the online comics they have downloaded for free, is this because the real comics fans the ones that actually buy comics don't put pirate scans of comics with a more adult theme up to be stolen?
Does anyone on this forum read these kind of good comics?
Is it because the fans on here mainly don't understand the concepts in these comics and just want flashy "cosmic" fights rather than good stories?
Kinneary
Or maybe you just have some sort of superiority complex that you need to get fixed?
If you like the comics then make threads about them. Stop being a b.itch.

Judging from this reply, I will go with, "they are mostly to young to understand the issues involved".

Isn't this character you're playing supposed to be a 17 year old girl?

i download my comics because im poor, and as for this site not having quality comics, i talk about Fables every now and then
Wally West
I'm sure Justice has had a few threads as well.
But yeah, if you think a comic deserves a thread and discussion, start one.
Darth Vicious
Theres a discussion thread about 52 already, another one about Civil War and we have discussed Criminal, Y-the last man, Girls which if u ask me are pretty good quality comics and not ur standard superhero book.

When you make a showing of being a pretentious comic fan with no life, it's better not to act like a badass.

Yes I am almost 17, 17 year old girls like Fables it's a bit like Fairy tales, have you read it? It's very good.

Expect that to drop off when I go back to school. No the last two days I have had nothing better to do with my time.

You are right I only read downloaded shit comics that involve people hitting each other, anything deeper is too complicated since I am stupid and a comic thief.

They pop up every now and again, but yeah, they don't get as much discussion as other threads. It's a pity, but that's justn how it is. If you want to see more, make some.

That's good thinking, I thnik I will. Thank you. Some of you on this forum are very polite. Maybe it will improve a bit if I do make some slightly more interesting threads. Instead of GALACTUS (FUL POWER) V TENEBREOUS (WITH INFINITE GANLETS) yes I know it's spelt wrong, that's just one of the points i'm making.

Eh it's all about opinion when making threads and what people like is purely subjective.Just because they don't read the comics that you find good does not reduce they're intellegence in any way,it simply means that they're taste differ from yours, and whilst i can see that wsn't your angle that first post was very condescending.

Of course taste is subjective, however surely you get bored with the same things over and over and I disagree about what you read reducing your intelligence, not your post or most of the others in this thread but some of the stuff on this forum I have read over the last few days really does reduce your intelligence. I was reading some thread, which was like the Hardy boys mysteries, all this "gang" needed was a "virtual" clubhouse for their "members" and yes I know "member" has another meaning. They were hilarious but a bit pathetic.
Martian_mind
Maybe some of the content of this forum could knock down your I,Q however maybe it is your intellegence that needs a look if all you can truly gather from comics is "big flashy battles" several people on this forum read comics due to the Characterization that they find in them and the social issues that the author's convey through their work,so love don't act condescending when you yourself are showing ignorance. Now about that Clubhouse remark what is your point exactly? if you find those threads distasteful or boring just leave them be,start your own or find ones you do enjoy, and it should be easy but still creating threads simply to show superior intelligence or disdain for anothers lack of it is not good way to show an advanced intellect just makes you look pretentious not bright.

Bizarrely alot of people seem to have incredible in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of Marvel and D.C. so called philosophy, I really cant understand why people would want to read such 'mumbo jumbo' ? If you want ethical theories in a fable context read anything by Alan Moore. If you want crazy concepts and modern scientific philosophy, read Warren Ellis and even Grant Morison. I have the impression most people are reading comics to find characters who can do well on this vs forums, which also seems utterly bizarre, as the most powerful character hardly ever feature in decent comics. There are exceptions; Sandman and Lucifer come to mind.

A most expected response from a kmc member, mind you i think its very rude to call a little girl a '*****', shes only 17. I'm am though surprised that you didn't use the typical Kmc retort, i.e. refer to her as a sock.

Thats a pretty ignorant stance. Just because you read Ex Machina or Fables and someone else doesn't it doesn't make you more intelligent. It just means that you read a different book than that person. Maybe if you were refering to people who only like stories for the pretty colors I would see your point.
I read stories for the characterization. I loved Bendis' Daredevil and I'm really liking the new Ant-Man cause I'm really feeling the characters. Civil War is a very interesting concept and its been a fun ride so I'm onboard with that too. Justice is a great book but honestly it takes so long to come out that when it arrives I have to look bck at past issues to remember what's happened.

We don't have many threads on any comics let alone "quality comics". What we do have are threads on cross title story arcs like Civil War since most people are unable to pick up every issue that pertains to the the event and it helps keep things in order. Other then that... well... I think we have an Astonishing X-men thread... but that is a quality comic.
And when only 1 in every 10 comics is worth it's weight in paper, I would hardly call that a quality comic. I'm looking your way 52.

A lot of DC stuff is garbage like a lot of Marvel. Vertigo and Ultimates, Wildstorm, Maxx are all better quality imprints. Although Darkhorse and many of the smaller houses produce the really good stuff like Kurts Busiek and his version of Conan. Top notch.

Invincible is an excellent series. The problem with civil war is it moves the politics of 616 still further away from reality. Genosha was bad enough and had to be removed, now they do this. Ill judges perhaps, like Parker losing his secret identity.

52 is hardly garbage, its been superior to various headlining Marvel titles, New Avengers and Uncanny X-men come to mind. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't follow it through to the end, although i wish i had gone for the trade option and read it all the way through. In IMO the crisis has been superior to Annihilation and planet Hulk, but i do admit that the so called big event have numerous weaknesses. Anyone that suggests that the quality of D.C. comics has been lacking, really doesn't read enough D.C. The Green Lantern series, Action, Batman, All star Supes, JLA, Legion of Super heroes and Checkmate have all been brilliant, and far more enjoyable than their Marvel counterparts. There are though exceptions; Iron man, Astonishing, Ultimates, Daredevil, and Captain America come to mind. What i think the young girl is referring to are the more abstract comics such as the Runaways, Seven Soldiers, Planetary, Eternal etc. All of which are quality titles but are hardly Mainstream.

I know that a lot of people have seemingly 'dissed' the I.C. because of its apparent poor ending (Which really wasn't that bad), but before the 7th issue many where revelling in it. Its FAR,FAR, FAR superior to the critically acclaimed original Crisis and IMO, is up there with the likes of the Secret Wars. You have to realise how hard it is to put together something as 'Big' as the crisis, and i think G.J.'s did an extremely competent job. I agree that the story relied on various fannboygasim, bad ass moments, but so has Annihilation. To say that Griffin is better at planning things than G.J.'s (Whose basically writing every D.C. book at the moment), is absurd. You seem like a cool clever guy so don't loose individualism by following the flock off the cliff.

ALot of people dont enjoy Morissons take on Batman, but i find it extremely readable. Although i have a few qualms with the bat space ship. The G.L. serries has picked up immensly since the start of the Crisis. I love the conspiracy theories involving the Guardians, Cyborg Supes and 52.

Eh 52 really hasn't been doing anything for me. Its supposed to be answering so many questions fans have had regarding OYL but so far all its doing is dragging on mysteries I've lost interest in weeks ago. Invincible is a fun read. I liked IC, I respect exactly how much planning and thought went into it but I didn't like that the tie-ins were so intregal to the main story and the end was quite lackluster imo. I'm really feeling Civil War cause its seems so real (like a real world analogue), but I'm dissapointed in the handling of the pro-reg guys. For the most part they are villified and this was supposed to be a "fair" thing with no side being completely right or wrong. I do love that Cap is very involved and I'm glad to see him with such a huge role in the MU. Daredevil with Bru is good, so is his Iron Fist. And I'm not really a GL fan but the new series is very good. Other than JSA and JLA I've been pretty underwhelmed by the new DC books.

Like i said before taste is completely subjective. Im sure we could sit down for hours and you could explain to me why you prefer specific comics over others and vice versa. All I am saying is reading a book that you don't consider to be "quality" does not make me or anyone an idiot.

No you implied that from my post i was much younger than i claimed to be, specifically stating 14 years of age. Which infact is quite insulting seeing as I am 22. Not to say there is anything wrong with being 14, its just i been there once already and frankly i like being 22 much better.

Recently I have become a big fan of Fables, the Sandman trades my brother has are very good as well. I like deconstructionsit comics a great deal so Supreme Power was fun for a mainstream as was Ultimates. Ex Machina probably tops it though.

I have the Sandman books, I loved them, now I'm getting into Lucifer.
I was going to pick up Fables, I suppose I will, sounds like a good book.
I have yet to read Ex Machina, I have been reading Lucifer and Daredevil lately, not picked up a very Intelligent read in a while.

Damn, it came up when I quoted! It's ok, I'm not that bothered with spoilers. Earth X and Kingdom Come are excellent reads, if you haven't read them yet. Lately, I've also been hooked into manga. Bleach, Naruto, DBZ.
Sorry for the insults in the Smarts or PIS thread, I was uncalled for.

Good point. I have a feeling that most members here only read comics in which overpowered men in tights beat the living daylights out of each other.
90 pct of those comics are rubbish. The other 10 pct vary from okay to great.
The most important comics are :
1. American comics : well, we all know those, don't we ? Some masterpieces, some good reads and a lot of crap.
2. Japanese comics : even worse. Some manga's are great (Akira) but a lot are a waste of paper.
3. European comics : imo the best. Just my opinion people, don't make a big deal out of it.

Funny, an inbreeding insult coming from someone who lives in a country where inbreeding is necessary to keep royal bloodlines pure. Is it only okay to marry your cousin in Britain if you're royalty? I think you need to be less arrogant and judgmental.
Just because other people don't like the same comics as you doesn't make them less intelligent or less cultured, I happen to like Sin City because I'm a big fan of Miller's gritty style of writing. I can also recognize that the level of gore and violence in Sin City is a bit much for some people. Opinions differ. The comic books people read have more to do with personal taste than any certain level of intelligence. You should respect the opinions of others more and get off your high horse.

For me, IC was pretty good, and i honestly wasnt that disappointed by the ending (if only the scale had been a bit bigger, a few more pages would have helped)
Civil War, to me, is more about the spectacle than anything else... i don't think the writing is exactly stellar, but i'm still drawn to it, because (barring another shite decision from marvel) it could have lasting repercussions for the entire mu... ultimate x-men was never THAT good imo...
My pull list...
Superman
Action Comics
Flash (in the somewhat insane hope that wally returns, other than that, well... zoom is gonna be in it soon, which could be awesome)
Astonishing X-Men
Uncanny X-Men (i want to see what the whole summers family consequences will be)
All Star Superman
Kabuki (as much as i can, but it has some really odd release dates)
Shi (the tpb's, great stuff)
JLA
JSA
i used to download comics, but i only have dial up now, so its impossible... and to be blunt, i cant afford to spend money on the 20+ comics i read monthly when i had broadband... so i gave up invinclible, batman, the freshmen, battle pope, ultimates, cable and deadpool, all the daredevil stuff, and so on...
if anyone doesnt like the comics i read, to hell with em, because, to be honest, they are the comics i like to read, it says alot about a person when they try to personally insult someone just because of the comics they'd choose to read over others...

Here are a few Moore tips :
- The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vol I and II (Forget that awful movie !!!!!)
- From Hell (Forget that awful movie). From Hell isn't easy reading though.
- Watchmen. Maybe the best comic ever ?
- The Killing Joke. Brilliant Batman story.
- V for Vendetta. A bit dated, but still a great read.
- Top Ten ! This is so underrated, and yet it's so good !!
