ToMacco
I already said this in "Look at me!", but I am taking the day off of work on September 11th. Honestly, I took it off to talk to all of you, my online friends. I really wish and hope most of you will come in to chat with me on the 11th (US day hours)

Hope to talk to ya'll,

ToMacco

keokiswahine
it's divorce day for my workplace, so unable to take the day off. Too much fire and brimstone, and very unhappy people. sorry, but I will join you all here when I get home. Unfortunately, I am about 12 hours apart from ya all in Europe.

LanceWindu
I'll hopefully be on.

The bastards at the cable company never showed up to turn our cable back on.

So that means we don't have our internet at our ouse right now.

But by then we should have it.

ToMacco
All I want is for everyone to be here on the 11th during the day.

Let's try to set the damn online record for that day.

finti
be at work from 9 am so I get some free moments to chat that day

Corran
I'm out drinking that evening, I suppose I could log on drunk afterwards, but I wouldn't expect much sense.

mah
I don't know, I guess I'll be on at my usual time..which is around US day maybe? can't remember how many hours we are apart.

Dexx
i'll be in an aeroport in prague sittin there...waitin for my plane to romania for 9 hours mad

Corran
It depends which part of the US too. I think you are about 6 hours ahead of EST but 10 hours ahead of California etc.

Fire
well I can be online when I come back from school, but not too late

yerssot
well, I'll be there perhaps

mechmoggy
I'll come on after work.

Thomas H
I`l stop by, for a time!

BackFire349
ill be here at one poing or another

Gundark
I'm on Amish-Time. I'll be here for sure.

Tex
I'm going to school/work and then to a show.

ToMacco
Tex, you always gotta be a boatrocker, you bastard. stick out tongue

Raz
I should be here.

finti
boat rocker in Texas what a contradiction rolling on floor laughing rolling on floor laughing steer up some sand but rock a boat big grin

yerssot
I think everyone would be here, just not at the same time

Gundark
yerss, I'm glad you're here to tell us these things. stick out tongue

Fire
nice goin' yerss we really didn't think of that one yet smile

mah
well I'll probably be here SOMEtime while SOME of you americans are here, but can't guarantee to be here on a record-breaking number of users online-attempt.

yerssot
thanks mah, that's what I ment actually,

but once again, professor yerssot came to the rescue cool
*rides away on white horse*

Corran
Yerss you're an ass, sorry meant to say you are riding an ass not a horse.

yerssot
*starts humming Batman theme*
Assman! Assman! Assman!

Corran
Whatever happened to super post-man?

ToMacco
Assman?

Anyway, you should see how pissed off everyone is at my work. I told them I was take September 11th off, and drink martini's all day while chatting on the internet and watching CNN specials.

Even my boss called me a bastard, because I thought of doing it before he did.

LanceWindu
Bad news for me.

In 4 hours I have to wake up and we are driving back to Tennessee, and when we get there we were supposed to be getting our internet back on, but today we got an eviction notice (my damn sister doesn't know how to pat for rent).

So we are going to hold out on the internet until we get into a new place to live.

So hopefully it will be within 30 days that I'm back. Cause that's the length of time we have to get out.

Sorry I can't be here on the 11th.

Maybe I can get to my parent's house then and use their crappy 56k.

Until then, C-ya!

ToMacco
That sucks.

Corran
Not good.

yerssot
sorry Lance, I hope you'll return soon

Gundark
I'm sure he knows we're thinking about him.

I saw on AOL that the 9/11 flag is missing.

yerssot
care to explain that last one?

Fire
yea I'd like to hear it aswell

Gundark
On the welcome screen on AOL they flash a series of top news stories. Then you just click on the one you want to read.

Well one of them said the 9/11 flag (the one those firemen hoisted up that day in all those pictures) was missing.

yerssot
so you mean someone stole it from ground zero?

Gundark
Here's the story:

.c The Associated Press

HACKENSACK, N.J. (Sept. 5) - The American flag that was raised by three firefighters over the wreckage of the World Trade Center, one of the most enduring images of Sept. 11, has disappeared.

After it was removed from the site during cleanup, the flag was believed to have been flown on U.S. ships serving in the war in Afghanistan, then returned to New York City officials in March.

But the flag that city officials preserved measures 5 feet by 8 feet. The flag the firefighters raised on Sept. 11 measured 4 feet by 6 feet, according to its original owners.

''It's just a really awkward and difficult situation,'' said Lark-Marie Anton, a spokeswoman for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. ''What it represents is really what's important.''

Bloomberg has asked city fire officials to investigate what happened to the flag.

The New York Times reported that city officials had traced the 5-by-8 flag as far back as a Sept. 23 appearance in Yankee Stadium. They believe the original flag may have been accidentally switched or misplaced sometime between Sept. 11 and that event.

Officials say they are unaware of anyone claiming to possess the original.

The original flag came from a yacht, the Star of America, that was in a Hudson River marina near the World Trade Center that day. Firefighter Dan McWilliams took it from the yacht and walked back to Ground Zero, where he and two colleagues, George Johnson and Bill Eisengrein, raised it on a slanted pole.

The scene was captured by Thomas Franklin, a photographer with The Record of Bergen County, and distributed worldwide by The Associated Press.

The discrepancy about the flag size was discovered last month when the yacht owners, Shirley Dreifus and her husband, Spiros Kopelakis, borrowed the flag for an event on board the Star of America.

The couple had been preparing to formally donate the flag to the city when they said they noticed the flag was too big to be theirs.

''It's a mystery,'' Glen Oxton, an attorney representing the owners said Thursday in The Record. ''Who knows what happened to it after the firefighters put it up and the photograph was taken? There was so much activity down there.''

ToMacco
That's not the same flat that fell with the towers, then was raised later, was it? It was all torn up and stuff.

mah
when living people still remember what happened, a flag doesn't mean that much. it's sad that someone would steal it of course, but its no crisis.

finti
disrespectful assholes

Gundark
I agree with finti on this one.

finti
yeah

yerssot
then it MUST be bad!

ToMacco
I'm pretty excited for the 9-11 programs that will run all day.

I'm so glad I took the day off to watch it all.

yerssot
grmbl, I can't take a day off sad

well, hope everyone can drop by *looks at DIM*

ToMacco
I will be online for like 6 hours that day. Should be fun.

Oh, by the way, people. I will most likely be drinking all day smokin' smokin' smokin'

yerssot
6 hours? ha! even with school, I'm more then 6 hours online

Billy The Kid
Why dont we make a forum for yerssot and ToMacco alone evil face

ToMacco
. . . . . . that's really sad, yerssot. You need some real friends.

You want some of my friends? I have too many.

yerssot
we? we? have to ask Raz for that!

ToMacco
Why don't you suck my ass, Billy? mad stick out tongue

yerssot
grmbl, I have friends, problem is, I can't stand some...

ToMacco
It's probably the other way around. stick out tongue

yerssot
oh no; I don't bother with those

ToMacco
What?

yerssot
friends who you always need to remind you're a friend

Billy The Kid
rolling on floor laughing

ToMacco
I'm just kiddin' pal.

yerssot
I hoped so

ToMacco
You pervert. I meant it as an insult, not as an invitation

Billy The Kid
wink

Billy The Kid
laughing out loud

No...offcourse I was just kidding with the blinkink smiley too...hehe

ToMacco
Yeah, I know. I was calling yerssot a pervert.

That Belgium bastard. rolling on floor laughing

yerssot
you just can't be sure when drunk people meet

ToMacco
I'm not drunk.

I should be though.

yerssot
you're not drunk right now?? mad

ToMacco
No. Am I supposed to be? Do you want me to get drunk? I certainly can!! rolling on floor laughing rolling on floor laughing cool

mah
hows that 9/11 program gonna be in the US, To?

yerssot
*takes titanium glove*
*smacks To with it*
I challange thou to get drunk!

ToMacco
Well, I know ABC is gonna run specials all day. Then several cable news networks CNN, MSNBC are going to have interesting documents on. I'm hoping the History Channel has something good, too.

mah
okay. lets hope it'll be a nice seremony and a day to remember the lives lost, and not a day used to front revenge. I'm sure most people will use it as the first of course.

Dexx
i don't get it yerss...why do ya always pick a titanium glove...it's just faimnous for it's resistance..not weight. In fact the purpose is to be lighter than other materials not as resistant. Pick heavy iron..much more effective when slappin'

Julie
roll eyes (sarcastic) oh great slapping lessons

Dexx
no..it's strictly material

Julie
sure...deny it if you wish....

ToMacco
There were specials on TV tonight already. I got REAL teary a couple of times.

What a horrible, horrible thing happened on that day a year ago.

finti
yeah something on the tube yesterday here as well. Damn those firefighters are fearless , if I ever saw a hero.....

Billy The Kid
*respect*

Captain REX
My mom's birthday is tomorrow. smile

9/11 is the day after that. eek!

Last year it was like saying "Happy Birthday Mom!...BOOM!!!"

Captain REX
I agree with Finti about the firefighters. They are daredevils aren't they? smile

jayride
I have a job interview at 9:am on 9/11. What should I wear?

finti
clothes

Corran
and shoes.

finti
and a big smile

Gundark
And make sure there's no bacon stuck in your teeth.

yerssot
spinach is ok, but no bacon!

jayride
I could wear that tie I got my son with all those happy airplanes on it...

Fire
yea go for it

yerssot
put a smile on your face

Corran
but not that tie.

Captain REX
Well, his interview is on 9-11, so it's not that much off topic... big grin

Julie
Who said it was? Good luck. wink

Dim
Okay...I'm going to be unpopular in saying this but I wish they would give the whole 9/11 oreal a rest and let us get past it a bit...as it is now I think it's really unhealthy how they're constantly talking about it and bringing people to tears over it all the time. And tomarrow they will do all these specials on the aniversary when they haven't really haven't eased off it to let everyone some breathing room in the first place.

Besides the point that you can buy commemorative crap like plates and figurines of the twin towers...and people have used it for political leverage to further their own agendas....it's sickening.

finti
it is understandable feelings Dim

BackFire349
i kinda agree. but i think tommorow they should of course agknowledge it and stuff.

Corran
There should definately be an acknowledgement today but the commemorative memorabilia is taking it too far, it kind of tasteless.

Dim
aknowledgement is fine...but do we have to heard about it every day??.. Hopefully they'll let it rest a bit after today's ceremonies. This crap gets me depressed..it gets alot of people depressed. Anyway...nuff said, I've vented smile

finti
yeah

yerssot
yayy! Dimmie of La Résistance!

Gundark
I agree with Dim. I find it very depressing. Was watching a program on Nova (on public television) last night about how they analyzed exactly how the towers collapsed with digital imaging of their superstructure and how they were affected by the impact of the planes because of different direction and what floor was hit and all that stuff.

I was practically in tears until the end of the program. It was like it happened yesterday. The video of the second plane coming in is absolutely the worst. Just the worst part of it. Its like....there it is again and there is nothing you can do to stop it. sad sad

queeq
But I agree with Dim about the merchandise. Then again, that's the US: always find a way to make a buck.

Dim
Unfortunately yes...some people are going to have very bad karma.

Hopefully To understands why you chose to close the other threads....there's a point where you can mourn but watching and talking about every gory rehashed detail on TV makes things harder. I for one am not going to watch anything about it or listen to the radio...I just can't handle anymore of it.

ToMacco
They listed everyone who was killed and showed their picture. I watched it for 15 minutes, completely numb.

yerssot
I didn't, I was away

and I wasn't going to see that anyway

Fire
haven't seen anything about it ye

Ushgarak
Saw the whole American commemeration; must say it shows a lot of cultural differences between the UK and the US.

mechmoggy
Just watched a bit of BBC coverage and I couldn't bring myself to watch anymore. I find the whole event too shocking and it makes me feel bad.

Captain REX
My mom said that we would not turn on the news today. I'm very happy with that decision. I'm too busy being sick. sad

I got enough of that stuff talked about today at school anyway.

1. My band teacher said that the cars of the people who drove to work and died in the attack are still there, collecting dust. sad

2. I remembered that they raised the price of US flags a few weeks after the attacks. mad mad mad

3. The towers collapsed partly due to the fact that plane engine fuel helped make secondary explosions and heated the fire to the point of melting metal. sad

4. A man jumped out of the Towers and landed on an officer, killing him. sad

5. Osama Bin Laden is 45, if he's even still alive. roll eyes (sarcastic)

All very sad. I wonder if people thought I was crying because I was rubbing my eyes and sniffling all day. That's was just because I'm sick with a cold. The only time that I actually got sad was when the bagpiper my principal hired played "Amazing Grace," which made me flash back to my grandpa's funeral. http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/cwm/3dlil/cry.gif

Julie
cultural differences such as.......

BTW the remberance thingy I went to today wasn't all that great. I remember the sad events better in my own mind.

finti
who elses mind should remember it for you roll eyes (sarcastic)

mah
I agree with what Dim said here earlier on

watched a little of it on TV.
but why did they have to mix religion into it? there were people from 84 countries who died, not all had the same religion! and religion is what caused all this anyways. instead of talking a lot about how god would make it stronger and all, couldnt they let christianity rest that day, and be neutral with religion?

finti
because religous(of all religions) always tries top get the upper hand

yerssot
didn't watched tv, all that on tv!

queeq
Just the summaries.

yerssot
what will they do next year?

Ushgarak
Cultural differences, Julie? Well, not wanting to sound insulting, but I found large amounts of it very trite and more or less meaningless to me. The silence and the reading of the names of the dead, that was powerful stuff. But the songs? I thought I was watching some sort of parody for a moment there.

The solemn remembrance we had in the UK made more sense to me, and the passing over of the Union Jack that was found in the rubble (and the testimony from the officer who found it) was very poignant.

Like I say, cultural differences. It's just not the way we would have done it over here. Doesn't make it any less valid; it was just odd to watch.

Gundark
I think we need to lay this thing to rest now.

Closing.
