Lord Evolution
One of the best defenders in the league.

One of these days he will win DPOY, but I think if the Lakers keep up their pace, they are currently 11 games over .500, then he will be the MVP.

But he has been NBA all defensive team almost every year he has been in the league.

didnt gilbert score 60 against him?

Simple answer.

NO

This is true, he scored 60 points against the Lakers, not Kobe. But he did hit like 4 or 5 3's/long 2's in Kobe's eye.

He got lucky, that week was good, and now not one word has been said about him.

Kobe is the best

Yes, Kobe is a great defender and everybody knows it, which is one reason why I say he is not underrated on the defensive end (who is it that says he is? Darth Martin, is that you?).

TaZ#12
I say he is too.

Myth
He makes the All Defensive team nearly every year. What more needs to be done for him to get the credit he deserves? Do you think he should have already earned DPOY?

koolruningz
Kobe is a great defender, that is a given. However he is guilty of not playing stellar defense against lesser opponents and only really focusing on marquee matchups.
I have been a bit disappointed with his defense this season but i put that down to his knee surgery and if i remember rightly he said in an interview his knee wont be 100% until after ASW. He has made some great blocks this season though, the block on the Deron Williams dunk should be in the top 10 blocks this year.
I would prefer him to become that lock down defender that he was a couple of years ago, blocks and steals are nice but i have more respect for a perimeter player sliding his feet and playing good honest D (what can i say im old school like that). Hopefully he can accomplish that once his knee is all the way back, he doesnt have to carry such a load offensively now that Lakers are looking more like a team so once he is healthy there is no excuse.

Darth Martin
Yea when the Lakers were winning championships w/ Shaq he was an outstanding defender and should have won. Oh, and Myth IMO he ias underrated because his offense overshadow his defense and when he is compared to players like D-Wade amd LeBron people tend to forget his defense. When there's is sorry literally(although Wade has his moments defensively).

RecSpecs110
I think that all those guys (Kobe, LeBron, and Wade) are underrated defensively, because they're monsters on offense. I've seen quite a few blocks and steals from all of them this season. And they all use their athleticism to stick with their man and contest shots.

Darth Martin
Fair enough. LeBron has improved from last season. Just havn't seen him much I guess.

TaZ#12
They can all score, when ever they want too, so they should all play great defense and work and it.

I kind of see what you mean. Kobe's offensive talents seem to overshadow his defensive talents in the eyes of the public. However, overlooked and underrated are different. If you ask anybody who follows basketball at all about Kobe's defense, they will properly say that he is a great defender and one of the best in the league. And if you ask people who is best defensively between Kobe, Wade, and Lebron, then they will surely say Kobe.

Btw, that is an improper use of the word "literally." smile

LORDSIDIOUS01
Kobe Bryant is one of the best defenders in the league. Certainly Gil Arenas scored on him ,but Gil doesn't come to play for 82 games like Kobe does.

What?

Darth Martin
Kobe scored 81 not 82.

82 games in a season.

He was saying Gilbert either takes some games off, injured, or is inconsistent.

RecSpecs110
Which I do not believe.

Uconn4506
kobe is a great defender, but he is not the best in the L right now. bruce bowen is a better one and so is ron artest

Lord Evolution
Bruce Bowen has to be the dirtiest player in the NBA.

I will give Josh Smith the nod over Artest and Bowen.

Darth Martin
Yea Smith can crtainly block. I'd say best are Artest, Mutumbo, and Wallace/Bowen

LORDSIDIOUS01
You don't have to be a great defender like Kobe to get the job done.
