The other categories aren't important to me. stick out tongue

Of course, the list above are who I want to win.

Who I think will win are:

Picture: Babel or Iwo Jima. A toss-up at this point
Actor: Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland. No contest.
Actress: Helen Mirren, The Queen. A lock.
Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy, Dreamgirls. Only upset could be Hounsou.
Supporting Actress: Jenifer Hudson, Dreamgirls. Another lock.
Director: Martin Scorsesee, The Departed. Damn straight. Marty gets his Oscar finally, after delivering one of the best modern gangster films in years with a cast chock-full of great performances from great actors.

Of absolutely no importance.....my birthday is Feb. 25th.

FistOfThe North
"Happy Feet"'s gonna take it over "Cars" surprisingly enough.

FistOfThe North
Clint's gonna take home best dir. for Iwo, i think.

And it's gonna come down Smith and Dicaprio for best actor. Can't decide which and it's a tuff in between "Babel and The Departed."

And visuals, wow. Can't decide in between "Supes/Returns" and "POTC2"

Oh man, I'll be looking forward to the Academy's this year.

SpaceMonkey
I'm glad that trash "Dreamgirls" didn't get nominated. I am upset at the snub for Affleck in "Hollywoodland" though.

soin2cal
oh wow, going on awards nights must be so much fun! I want to do itlaughing out loud As any other normal events are funstick out tongue

I would love to see Will Smith win, but Forest Whitaker might take it happy

my very very humble opinion considering many of these films i haven't seen and am going soly on what i've heard about them and the reviews they've gotten. I generally like the nominations except i think Children of Men should get several other nominations (Pic, dir, Art design) and Than you for smoking should have been nominated for best adapted screenplay. so, take everything with a grain of salt most of these i'm just bulsh*tt*ng. hoe you could get the abbreviations.

I'm surprised that Dreamgirls didn't get a nod for Best Picture, it was thought to be a lock. I guess it just shows that nothing's set in stone

Lunch_Meat
I'm glad Dreamgirls didn't get Best Picture nod, but I don't understand why the hell Little Miss Sunshine got the nod for Best Picture, I mean what the hell, I thought it was just a mediocre movie, extremely overrated.

Rapscallion
i liked little miss sunshine alot, but there is no way it should have been nominated for best picture

wuTa
I was suprised The Illusionist didn't get any nods.

SnakeEyes
The Prestige should've been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, I think.

vintageSW77
i thought Gretchen Moll should have got a nod for THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE but it looks like no one saw it

botankus
What about Dita Von Teese? Wasn't she in a movie or something that should have merited a Best Actress nomination at the very least?

naty`sweet
well..of course DiCaprio won's win...i`m still hoping though..well...i`m not hoping...damn...i just know it`s just another nomination...i should get pissed off...but i`m not...whatever...an oscar nomination is SoMETHING...and he`s young...he still has time to get the oscar...and he will...considering how good he is getting..year by year... cool

SpaceMonkey
I agree that The Illusionist AND The Prestige should have been considered a bit more. They were both excellent movies.

BackFire
Pretty much what was expected to get nominated. Only surprise kinda being that Little Miss Sunshine was nominated for best picture.

Such is Life
I'm hoping for The Departed to win best picture.

It was an intriguing, well written film.

good to see the ego that is Beyonce Knowles didnt make the list I was under the impression that Jennifer Hudson was the main character in Dream Girls. I keep looking at the Lead Actress nominations and expecting to see her name and thinking she's been flubbed/dubbed/ whatever they call it.

So I'm guess Beyonce is the lead in the movie huh? They previews didn't make her out to be. Now that I know this, I'm thinkingshe must be a little disappionted, although I was expecting anything in her favor anyways.

Little Miss Sunshine was an utter disappointment for me (just saw it last night). A friend of mine told me a couple of years ago I would love Sideways, and after seeing it, she was 100% dead on. She said the same about L.M.S., so I was pretty excited to see it, only to be let down quite a bit. The best character (Alan Arkin's) didn't get enough air time (won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it)!

well i just watched Dita in the movie Stilletto Sluts 2 and if my penis was part of the Academy Von Teese would definatley be getting an oscar

**** old saggy **** getting one for THE QUEEN

roughrider
Anyone have the nominees on a one-page ballot? I've been trying to download one for an Oscar pool but can't find one - not even at the Oscar site.

The Hawk
I hope Mark Wahlber wins... did you guys see his long hair? What a joke. That guys like exactly the same in all of his movies...

Kinda like when they gave Matt Damon (another clone) glasses in The Talented Mr Ripley...

The Departed was hugely disapointing... It doesnt even come off like a gangster movie..

Geez, the Oscars sure have gone to hell in the last 10 years or so.

manorastroman
the oscars have been a joke for far longer than ten years.

titanic was only ten years ago, what a joke of a "best picture".

The Hawk
Yeah, what a joke... it only made 1.8Billion dollars and was a good movie.. other than that, it was crap.

you should be complaining about movies like Shakespeare in Love.

manorastroman
yes, let us measure artistic accomplishment with money. no, it was not a good movie. it was melodramatic and mediocre.

at least shakespeare in love was clever.

The Hawk
I knew that was coming... No, let us measure it with the fact that making 1.8B means everybody on the planet probably went to go see it... Im sure it must have sucked.

It even made more than popcorn flicks....

Some movies dont have to be 'clever' or 'artsy' to win.. That doesnt automatically make them great movies.

Obviously, thinking Shakespeare in Love should even have been nomimated, Im not surprise you would think Titanic shouldnt have won. Im not Titanic's #1 fan or anything, but it was a huge production, with a feel good romantic love story, that EVERYBODY went to go see and Im sure the majority liked.. Maybe it wasnt as witty as Pulp Fiction or as Epic as Dances with Wolves.. but it deserved to win.. I mean if Shakespeare could win, why not... lol

Thats why the Academy has gone so downhill, they nominate what they think should win, instead of giving it to what should actually win.

Sometime you dont have to be a film critic to know whats good and whats not.

manorastroman
dances with wolves was another academy debacle. it beat out both awakenings and goodfellas, two movies that richly deserve to grind dances into the dirt.

do you realize how stupid your second to last sentence was? i mean, i don't usually act so much like AC, but damn

going back, i would like to point out the phenomenal differences between marky mark in boogie nights and marky mark in the departed. and he played both brilliantly. so much so in the departed that he actually STOLE SCENES from alec baldwin and the like.

The Hawk
I was using Dances with Wolves just an example of a period piece, not so much stating how good it was.. I personally too would not have given it pest picture..

Actually my last statement was not stupid, you just didnt understand it... lemme see if I could explain it better..

They'll give the award to what they think should have it, but not what deserves it... Meaning, they dont decide on whats better, but whats a better choice... i.e. popularity contest.

Like it would be rare to see an action or a comedy win best picture, usually because they dont fit the traditional 'best picture' style. Or they'll let it turn into a popularity contest and who ever would make the most headlines takes it. Pure garbage.

and about Marky Mark... lol The only difference in his performances EVER is maybe the style in which he combs his hair and even that usually doesnt change.... = a joke. IMO

Yeah..

I mean, Im not gonna rag on anybody's preferences here.. we all have our opinions.

I really try to be as objective as I can and I just dont see how he has a career. Even if he gave great performances here and there, for the most part I dont think he's great actor... Take boogie nights... he plays a pornstar. Obviously thats way different from what most actors do. All of a sudden its like 'ooh, look he's playing a pornstar, how non normal' and all of sudden its a great performance ... But really if you see his acting, it was nothing special.

He's very limited and he seems the same in all his roles. I see him in a movie and I see Mark Wahlberg, not who he's playing...

I dunno, thats just me.

Wow. That was the first time I've actually enjoyed watching an Oscars ceremony in a very long time...

Ellen was actually kinda funny, the 'Comedian at the Oscars' number was gold, Jerry Seinfeld is hilarious, Al Gore is a god, and Coppola, Lucas and Spielberg giving Scorsese Best Director was one of the coolest things I've seen in my life!

Aside from Inconvenient Truth winning Best Song (seriously, WTF?), and the creepy-as-hell shadow-people, a really great night.

Not Lucas, and Coppola, like Lucas, hasn't had a certifiable hit since 1983.

If you don't think that George Lucas is (at least in part) responsible for modern hollywood, along with Francis, Steven, and Marty or that he hasn't had a certafiable hit since '83..... then there isn't much hope for you. stick out tongue

Coppola needs no new hits.

He has Godfather.

Introduced Duvall, Caan, DeNiro, and Pacino.

..but one movie isn't reinventing the wheel. You have to be consistant. George Lucas did a lot for Sci Fi and summer blockbusters, for whatever that's worth.

erm

George Lucas singlehandedly changed cinema.

From motion-controlled cameras, to the merchandising of toys and memrobillia, to adding a symphonic score to modern films, to his pioneering of digital effects, to founding and selling Pixar, to creating the THX standard of sound and picture quality, to inventing the Edit Droid which lets filmakers edit their films in a non-linear way, to creating ILM.. the premier special effects company in movie-making, and by creating a whole new TYPE of film: space fantasy.

Not to mention that he has all six of his SW films in the top 25 of all time, and 3 are in the top ten.

I'm sure that I don't really need to sing Spielberg's praises and I don't need to sing Coppola's either.

He made Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, and The Godfather part II.

He crafted fine movies, with some of the premier film and stage actors of his day, and like Lucas he had a nack for picking young actors who became extremely famous.

And now Martin Scorsese with his fine body of work thus far, including the classics Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and the modern cinema achievements The Aviator and this years The Departed has joined his buddies in winning an Oscar.

JENNIFER HUDSON for Best supporting actress
I was seriously going to cry if she didn't get it.

and wow I can't believe Eddie didn't get the oscar
but I'm really happy Alan Arkin won
I loved him in LIttle Miss Sunshine
I'm quite upset that that movie didn't win best picture
but oh well
and Forest Whitaker deserved for Best Actor
I wanted Meryl Streep or Kate Winslet to win for best actress
but I'm sure Helen Mirran was great
plus how many oscars does Meryl Streep have anyways?

Now shhh.... you're ruining a good pWnIng. stick out tongue Well, to assist you:

George Lucas, no matter how hackneyed he's become recently, revolutionized cinema as a whole with Star Wars (and Indiana Jones), not just 'sci-fi and summer blockbusters." Virtually all movies since then have been influenced by it in some way. That's the lasting effect of a great film or filmmaker. Kubrick did it with his films. Tarantino will likely influence films for decades to come, and he in turn was influenced by great films. It's a neverending cycle
