They should make one
LORDSIDIOUS01
Green Lantern has been in developmental hell for years. Tom Cruise was rumored a couple years back. Now Jim Carrey or Jack Black were rumored to make a comedic version. I think they should wait until the right script for GL comes around.

Amen to that!!! A Green Lantern movie is just what we need, and tom cruise might make a good one. {if he would} I'd like to them lay a little more ground work on origins, talk old school hal jordon, gaurdions of Oa, and villians like Sinestro.

Sinestro is a great villian for Hal to fight. Who would play Hal and Sinestro?

They probably won't be colored green for the movie. The movies take a bit of artistic license for themselves.

At least that will make a change from the two dinosaurs of DC (Superman and Batman).
I like Green Lantern and I hope we'll have some spatial scenes

I assume you mean scenes set in space, rather than spatial scenes. And, while I love both Batman and Superman's recent film outings, it would indeed be nice to see more DC characters making the transition to the big screen.

Kilowog will be a good choice to be in this. I forgot about Carol Ferris, she'll be interesting. Someone good should play her.

Of course, we now seem to be assuming this film will be made. That is still very much in doubt. I'd be surprised if we had a GL film in the next 5 years, to be honest.
JaydonPhoenix
I think I'd prefer if the movie centered around the new destiny of Kyle Rayner as a GL successor, with previous GL legend/history already assumed and featured in parts. Then again I wouldn't complain if a Hal-centric movie was done well, and as for green energy projections looking crud on screen...I'm not sure, given the right special effects it could look pretty cool.

A) Hal > Kyle. He's a much cooler character, and is, of course, the original of the Green Lanterns (bar Alan Scott, and DC wouldn't make a film about him- at least, not about him as GL).
B) Green energy projections would look all right as long as they didn't make ridiculous construction with the rings. Hitting an enemy with a green mallet, for example, would be pretty stupid.

they should film one long ass film tnen release it as 2 movies within a year of each other. i hate wating 3 years for a damn sequel. like lord of the rings or the matrix.
i said that because what i want for a green lanter movie is GL and sinestro kicking ass together and at the end of the first film.. double cross. next movie would be GL vs sinestro.

That would be cool, but I doubt WB would risk it. GL films would have to cost a hell of a lot to make, and if the first one did badly in the Box Office, then it'd be a disaster for them...

I searched through his website - didn't see the concept art you mentioned.
I am interested, because he shouldn't look like how he does in the comics. It has to be more like a uniform than a superhero look; early Kyle Rayner looked the most like that. And that eye mask will look cheesy as hell.

What if he had something similar to the eyegear worn by Cyclops?
Or...and this is borrowing the visual idea of Kyle Rayner's Ion...he generated a green glow on his face that obscured his features, put him in a silhouette? If it's really important that Hal have a secret identity...

Campbell Closing in on Green Lantern!
Source:Variety
February 4, 2009
Variety says Warner Bros. is negotiating with Martin Campbell to direct Green Lantern, the live-action film based on the DC Comics hero.
Campbell last directed Casino Royale and recently wrapped the Mel Gibson starrer Edge of Darkness.
Green Lantern is written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Berlanti had once been considered to direct. Instead, WB has attached him to direct This is Where I Leave You, the upcoming Jonathan Tropper novel which will be adapted by the author.
The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan introduced in 1959, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."
The best news I heard so far for this movie.

Besides directing a pair of James Bond films - Casino Royale & Goldeneye - Campbell has also directed the two Zorro films with Antonio Banderas. He knows how to direct action; science fiction is a new genre for him, unless you count No Escape.
Still, he's a veteran approaching his 70's. How would he do this?
SnakeEyes
Green Lantern's one of my favorite comic characters, so I really really hope they do it justice on the big screen. I'm not terribly excited for Campbell as the director, but it could be far worse. I'll have to wait for more news. I'd be fine with Gosling as GL, he's a talented actor. I just hope that they have a talented actor play the villain as well (hopefully Sinestro) and that most of the film takes place in space/other planets. If they set this movie on Earth I'll be pissed.

I like David Boreanaz for the role of Hal. He is in Bones now and played Angel on the TV series before. He also did the voice-over for Hal in the Justice League New Frontiers animated movie.

No. They are giving a budget comparable to what IRON MAN got, and I'm sure it's IRON MAN DC is thinking about. A hero nearly unknown outside the comic community becomes a smash hit, thanks partly to shrewd casting of Oscar-caliber actors. But can DC/Warner Bros. find someone - a name actor - who can capture imaginations like Robert Downey Jr. did?

I think the studio would always like to spend less. But look at what they need to do - not just a lot of flying sequences, but using CGI to create solid light constructs, plus scenes in outer space. Now maybe George Lucas could do this for $30 million less, because he's pretty conservative with his budgets, but he's got all his own facilities to work on a film.
The first X-Men cost $75 million back in 2000, and that didn't have all the complicated work this will need. Green Lantern can't be done well for under $100 million, at least.

they want big space battles. you can't do that well unless you spend properly. i agree with roughrider. dc sees this as their iron man. DC desperately needs to branch out, as they can't rely simply on their batman franchise.
they brought in Martin Campbell, who is no stranger to action sequences, and did a pretty damn good job with casino royale. it seems DC is bringing out the big guns. they have guggenheim on writing, and if they get a big actor, they could really pull it off.
fingers crossed, etc...

He's not just young - he looks even younger than his age.
Other name actors? I don't know. But it's better than having an unknown. A role like Superman - it's bigger than the actor could be; that's why unknowns are better there. A concept role like this, you need someone with a little stature to sell it to the non comic audience - just like how Robert Downey Jr. got everyone curious, about what IRON MAN was about.

No idea if how he'd look... he doesn't strike me as very Sinestro-ish but I guess it'd all be special effects-y stuff, so that might not matter, but he definitely is a damn fine actor. I thought he was great in very different roles in LA Confidential & Memento.
What the hell has happened to him, actually? He was in 2 great films in '97 and 2000 and hit the fore at the same time as Russell Crowe (with the same film), yet somehow I haven't seen him in anything for ages...

wasn't a bad movie, imo...

I haven't actually seen it and know very little about it. I just detest Adam Sandler. It may actually be perfectly OK...

Yeah... I think you either like his kind of thing or... don't, really. I personally can't stand him.
But... back on topic... Guy Pearce! Sinestro! Yeah!

what is it that makes you think of him as such a good fit?

I am thinking of Daniel Day-Lewis for Sinestro.

Not much really. It was a desperate (and slightly pathetic) attempt at getting back on topic. I think he's a great actor though. I don't really see him as Sinestro though...
As for Daniel Day-Lewis, there is a good call. He looks sufficiently evil, he does a great conflicted yet completely insane bad guy, and it also helps that he's one of the greatest actors ever. I'd definitely take him over Pearce.

Give Guy Pearce facial hair and purple skin, he's got the Sinestro look. Daniel Day Lewis does too, but he's in his 50's now.
And like I said, the production will be required to employ a certain number of Australian actors & crew, so Pearce being Aussie makes him a good candidate. Unless you think Hugo Weaving, Eric Bana, or Bruce Spence would be better.

Bruce Spence would make a great choice for one of the Guardians??
As would Weaving

I don't particularly like the guy, from what I saw of him in Alias, and he doesn't seem that great a fit for the role IMO. Rather him than a big name actor who'll completely dwarf the character, though...
BruceSkywalker
I think this is a smoke & mirrors story and the real actor will be named..
Other than Alias, Cooper has basically done comedic roles.. I don't think this is a good fit for such an iconic character

He was in "Hes just not that into you". It wasnt a comedic role and he did pretty good. He got to put his hands all over Scarlett Johansson (lucky bastard). I still say Jensen Ackles is a perfect fit for the character.

http://video.ign.com/dor/articles/958530/best-of-the-web/videos/greenlantern_prt_fantrailer_52709.html Pretty damn good. Thou I always pictured Ben Browder as Hal, only with less attitude than he normally exhibits in his roles.
Or Richard Dean Anderson for my dream, Emerald Twilight storyline with him as the aged Hal/Parallax just can't think of the perfect person to play Kyle that'd be the right age. Colin Farrell would've been great back in his American Outlaws days. IMO

Jensen Eckles would be more good as Jesse Custer for Preacher.

Really well done. Someone has a lot of time & tech access to mix all those clips together; bet it would fool the average viewer.

Cooper, Reynolds & Timberlake are Green Lantern Frontrunners
Source:The Hollywood Reporter July 10, 2009
In a follow-up to this item, The Hollywood Reporter says that Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake are the three frontrunners for Warner Bros. Pictures' Green Lantern.
Along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, Warner Bros. has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns.
Other actors in the early mix included Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill and Jared Leto.
The trade adds that De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.
The studio is targeting a June 17, 2011 release.

Bradley Cooper would be my choice. I like Ryan Reynolds but he's already playing Deadpool. While nothing agains Justin Timberlake, him as Hal Jordan would completely ruin the movie for me.

I don't know if this is posted anywhere else but...
Apparently Justin " I have a girls voice and I am destroying music" Timberlake is rumored to play Hal Jordan in upcoming Green Lantern movie. Here's the link

Please someone stop this travesty! Please comment on this thread, comment on the link. Send emails, text messages, anything to stop Justin "I sing horribly and I am a waste of space" Timberlake from being any part of this film. Thank you
BruceSkywalker
this movie has been ruined.. Oh how terrible it is.. Bradley Cooper can't act, but since he is coming off a major hit he will be on everyone's list for next film

Ryan Reynolds, can't see happening since he is Deadpool and Justin Timberlake, Hal Jordan breaking out in to song every scene..
I guess the studio didn't want search anymore, shame on them
The Nuul
Good thing there always First Flight, the way an GL movie supposed to be. Live action would just look silly.

Yeah I know, but just the thought of Justin "I'm completely overrated" Timberlake in a Green Lantern movie is just the worst thing I ever heard of. Bradley Cooper would be an excellent choice!
Prime#
Ryan Reynolds just got cast as Green Lantern

Apparently Reynolds won the spot? Hands down my favorite actor, but I'm not sure I see him as Jordan. He usually does more of the comedic roles, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

not bad actually...
Al the Killer
Meeeeeeeh
Reynolds is the safe pick I guess. The 3 given choices suggest they wanted someone well known to sell the franchise to audiences (JT is a superstar, Cooper coming off the Hangover). Reynolds does at least have action movie experience.
Darth Martin
Meh......he's Deadpool already. If he was going to do DC he should have been Wally West.
I was hoping for Pine myself.
Glad to know Martin Campbell got the gig. The Mask of Zorro and Casino Royale are some of my all time favs. Hopefully this will be added.

The Flash has been in development hell longer than Duke Nukem Forever (maybe not). If Reynolds had a choice of waiting for that versus taking Green Lantern, he made the right choice.
jcvaldez
Ryan Renolds is Hal Jordan. Not my pick but anything better than Justin Timberlake.
