Just a quick question. I am planning a vacation to California next year (my home at heart) and would like to know some advice/info on the place. I have read on sites about the place in general however i would like to know about the atmosphere and the best places reccomended. I am definitely going to go to southern california, prefably los angeles. Apparently a lot of this city is dirty/crimy, may be wrong, though i do imagine it being that way in parts terribly.
So if you have visited the los angeles area or live near there could you give me some good information on where is best to visit etc? Thanks.
I would like to now as much as i can as i have been away before and found myself bored as there was not much to do!

hollywood blvd is also a nice place..but theres a lot of bums there so watch your 6. city walk is nice too..but 10 bucks for parking is steep...oh but if you go and watch a movie at the theater...u get the 10 bucks back

Where to start...

Well, it depends on your budget and what you want. For a good time drive to Santa Barbara. Then take trip to Catalina Island. It's really fun...but if you go on Summer do expect to be jam pack of people.

If you're looking for more of a thrill. Visit Six Flags, Knotts Berry farm and Disneyland.

If you want some history take tour of the old California Missions.

If you're more of movie fan drive to Hollywood Blvd or take a tour of the big movie studios.

If you're looking for some gambling and entertainment and don't want to drive to Vegas (which is a 4hr drive) visit the Indian Reservation Casinos. They're nice and fun.

If you like sports there is Dodger Stadium, Angels Stadium, Staples center, Arrowhead pond.

For aquatic life go to Santa Monica, Long Beach, and San Pedro. That is if you like fishing.

There is more...that's a good start. Best thing to do is rent a car. Trust me you'll be doing lots of driving around. Make sure to get a map.

Almost forgot...if you're a shopper there are lots and lots of Malls. So you won't be dissapointed.

Avoid Downtown L.A. boring and overcrowded.

Have fun.

I don't get everyone's fascination with California, specially if they go in the summer, then it just becomes another polluted hell hole. There are tons of states that could easily rival it as tourist spots during the summer. Other than the ocean, which is apparently freezing anyways, I see absolutely no reason to visit Cali shrug

True, but it's the same with places like New York etc, I've been there and had a great time, but it's like every other place with good shopping and theater, nothing special and people go crazy about it.

But then again I hate overpopulated tourist traps so there's no appeal to spend my days stalking celebs and paying 10 bucks for a smoothie.

I mean other than the whole celebrity lure and shopping what else is there? shrug

...have never been to LA. But, I was in SF for a Memorial Day weekend with my family....lots of fun, lots to see and do.

i live in CA and Los Angeles is overrated. its very dirty and the air is like kinda yellow. there's only a small part of LA tht is nice, but it's not worth it.

I would like to now as much as i can as i have been away before and found myself bored as there was not much to do! Venice Beach and Santa Monica, Los Angeles are my favorite places in California. Aswell as Orange County, Anaheim. I was born there too.

I am mainly into shopping when it comes to going away, though i imagine i would be doing a lot of touring as you have to at a place like that. probably LA then if the best place to go for the most tourist attractions right?

I personally disagree with nations that allow guns. In my opinion it just makes the country dangerous! Its not exactly something people should really be messing around with nevermind putting the whole country at danger. I would hate to live in that. But its a shame that people do go mad with guns.

Yep i agree, but if guns are freely being allowed to be used, anyone could just freely walk around with them in any place therefore its adding a lot of danger to the place as people could easily get shot for walking outside their home.

honestly i went to cali for vacation for a month and stayed with a relative and i loved it. its a cool state imv and the women there are hot as hell. most of the stuff out there to do is surf/ skate board or roller blade. just so you know cali is a driving state and you can get lost real quick. i remember driving from orange county and ended up in compton. i would give it a shot and see what you think go for a week and make your judgment.

Oh yes i believe CA is quite busy, especially in LA. So i don't think its such a good idea me walking around LA by myself
Yep it has everything, but i wouldnt be doing much on the ocean, surfing etc. Most people say the same as you have, however they do find the attitudes of a lot of the people there as being appauling, especially in LA! I dislike it when people overrun the place in a nasty way!

the cousin i stayed with out there is in south central l.a. so just dont be saying stupid ish or wear the wrong color clothes cause youll regret it later.

A lot of people that i talk to say they wouldnt live there for that reason.

California is cool, I mean, its strange because there Is a lot to do, but since i live here, I can't really think of what exactly would appeal to an outsider. Orance County is nice, but there isn't really much to DO...

So. Cali is the place to go. Try staying at a city called Anahiem. It has great weather, and it's close to some major attractions. Like Disneyland and whatnot.

i usually go to orange county whenever i visit...to the asian part of california

magic mountain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The OCs nice...newports just really expensive though..but its gorgeous
