I noticed that the GEB is used a lot in the vs. forums, but few people seem to know much about him. So here I can post some scans and feats.

"Meddlers on Earth have succeeded in awakening a terrible primordial shadow that slept in the chaos beyond Hell. Informed sources expect the Darkness to advance across the afterworld upon the Place of Lights (Heaven) itself. Consequently, everyone has chosen sides, depending on whom they expect to win"

"You mean there's doubt?"

"Grave doubt, this is no fallen Angel or Leviathan heaven faces, this is the soul of darkness itself. A complete absence of divine light."

(this line confirms the GEB >>>>> Lucifer Morningstar in power)

Meaning it is outside of the Presence's creation.

Etrigan and other rhyming demons join the fight, knowing that the GEB threatens God's Balance.

Several Sorcerors, including John Constantine, Sargon, Zatanna, and her father Zatara, join their powers together to help the fight against the GEB.

The Phantom Stranger summons the entire heavenly host of angels to do battle against the GEB.

All of Heaven's Angels join in the fight against the GEB, however half of the demons join the GEB's side. The threat is enough to cause Angels and Demons to fight together.

The GEB appears from "The Chaos Beyond Hell", and all of the demons and other supernatural beings are shocked and cannot even omprehend its sheer size and power.

Etrigan bravely (or foolishly) charges head - on against the GEB. He defeats many of the demons allied with it, and appears right before it.

Etrigan tries to fight the GEB but is sucked in like a pebble trying to fight the ocean.

Etrigan is chewed up and spat out by the GEB. In addition, we learn more about it.

"Before light, I was endless, without name or need of name. Then light came. Witnessing its otherness, I suffered my first knowledge of self, and all contentment fled."

"Absence of God's light, his shadow - partner, locked in endless fight".

This reveals that the GEB is in every way equal to the power of the Presence, but his opposite, who existed before Creation.

The GEB notices the sorcerors spying on it, and reacts instinctively, sending back negative energy that kills Sargon.

Dr. Fate arrives, and states that if the GEB is not stopped, it will trample Heaven. Also note that the spirit of Nabu is in his helmet.

Dr. Fate charges in and kills many of the demons on the GEB's side.

Dr. Fate asks some of the demons why they sided with the GEB, and they state that it will remake the universe and they can rule it. Dr. Fate blasts them, but then is sucked up by the GEB.

The sorcerors suffer another magical feedback which looks like it's going to kill Zatana, but her father Zatara casts a spell to sacrifice himself instead.

All of the Angels attack the GEB at once.

The Angels are swatted like flies as the Phantom Stranger stares on in horror, the most powerful angels like Metatron are less than gnats. Then the Spectre arrives.

The Spectre is at full power, and faces down the GEB.

The Sorcerors attempt to assist him by sending him more power, as he grows in size and gives the thing a bear hug. However, he's in for a surprise, as what was thought to be the entire GEB before was just its thumb!

Swamp Thing goes to talk to the GEB, allowing himself to be willingly absorbed.

Here's another cameo appearance, as the GEB shows the Spectre a "shadow" of true Hell, and then true Heaven. The GEB seems more benevolent here since it has merged with the Presence and found meaning and completeness.

You did a remarkable job. Now we actually have something to gauge the GEB with.

It's very good, very detailed. What I reccomend is be a bit more organized, but still a great thread.

No. Where the hell did you get that idea from?

Yeah, that's kinda the opposite of what was shown. The GEB is something that's beyond comprehension, but at the same time, so simple. It's the other side. DC has created a pattern that is a picture perfect example of Ying&Yang. There can be no good, without evil. Each is defined by the other. The Presence's light cannot shine without the darkness of the GEB to contrast it with. And the GEB cannot exist without the presence to shine on it. And in each, is a piece of the other. The two are intrinsically tied to each other. For this story alone, DC has my deepest respect and admiration. And nothing Marvel has done can equal the brilliance and spiritual understanding that I was shown here.

For every evil, there is abit of good. For every good, there is a bit of evil. That's the meaning of the little dot that mars the surface of the white side, and the black side. It's a cycle, and it's meant to come full circle.


And to think, all their effort, all their warring, all their combat, and all the GEB wanted was to understand itself and make peace with the Presence.

I realize you can't have had alot to work with, but you did an excellent job. Well done, Mike. Well done.

well done. you managed to take an extremely interesting but underused and not well known character and get almost all of his appearances, and identify why each scan should give us respect for the GEB. good job.

That's not the GEB.Read what it said to the Spectre.It referred to it's self as santa(satan).Spectre than over powers it in the next few pages.

The Great Darkness is Yahweh's dark side, the one that holds the cosmos in balnce, however, don't mess up Yahweh with the Presence.
Since Yahweh has a superior, the Presence don't.

I remember the first time I was reading that issue, and found myself knotted up in tension and fear. Alan Moore had structured this year-long journey of Swamp Thing, right up to the Great Evil Beast, to parallel exactly what was going on in Crisis On Infinite Earths - happening at the same time. Instead of Monitor & Anti-Monitor, it was the Presence & the GEB. And Swampie gives it the insight it needed. Good job.
