Who would win and why, both extremely powerful, mongul being perhaps the only character of the era stronger than superman himself. would the OE erase mongul?

Darkseid wins, they might be comparable in physical strength but Darkseid has mind powers and the OE that could wipe him out.

There's no such thing as a "Pre-Crisis Darkseid".

indeed but the reference is to the darkseid of that era, PC was just a title. silver age darkseid would be better.

Pre crisis Validus was stronger than Mongul. much.

wasn't validus fighting mon-el etc etc did he ever fight PC supes, what happened?

He was able to pretty much soundly beat Superboy, MOnel, and that other legion kid who's name escapes me. they all were uber strong with monel being a daxamit who are stronger than even superman. validus could kill daxamites with one blast.
