How come no discussion about this one?

confused

The trailer was nothing special, and the reviews aren't very good. But Boyle is a very promising director, and I think he'll pull it off.

Wolfie
Good director. Sounds like a stupid movie though. Won't they burn up before they even reach the sun?

Solo
I'm pretty sure the sun dies out and they have to go build a new one.

Wolfie
Well, the plot says it's dying.

And if they are building a new one, once they're there and they start it up, they burn?

you think? i thought the trailer looked pretty good..

and yeah - danny boyle is the man Happy Dance

MildPossession
From the look of the trailer and the dialogue all the characters who are sent obviously will probably all die.

It looks good, mixed in with 28 Days Later type gore for the death scenes, looks quite gritty.

They most likely held it so it has a chance at the Oscars.

Some lovely pix in there....

Also, interview with boyle in the guardian;

http://film.guardian.co.uk/interview...040180,00.html

interesting to read this:

"We had this argument in the bar last night. He said it's absolutely critical we use nuclear power and Cillian said, 'What about the Irish sea? It's so polluted and there's all these leukaemia clusters.' And Cox went, 'If we use nuclear power we can give light and food to a million people in Africa and you're worried about a few hundred people in Ireland?'"

I'm more and more convinced that Boyle's principle interests lie in these human dilemmas, and his films are just different backdrops to explore what is basically the same idea each time

Boyle is one of my favourite directors. it's true; I even love the Beach. Although I don't think hes captured that same vibe as he had with Trainspotting, I'm optimistic towards anything he does nowadays.

Been watching the progress of this film since I first heard about it, I like the mix of genres, exploring the things that Alien or Solaris couldn't, while keeping it all in familiar sci-fi garb.

hearing a lot of different reviews of this - seems to be polarising people something chronic. two reviews from papers here - seems to sum it up fairly well..

The editing needs some serious work, it made a lot of the plot very confusing. Other than that, I have no problems with it, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Very good.

Deathblow
Everyone keeps going on about the visuals but to be honest, as spectacular as they were, half the time I didn't know what the hell I was looking at. I didn't find the plot confusing, but the editing was very disorientating at times.

I thought it worked best during the sequences inside Icarus I & II. The acting was of a far, far better standard than I expected, especially for a sci-fi movie. Some very intense, claustrophobic scenes and decent, believable dialogue. I went to Sunshine expecting a slightly more high-brow Armegeddon/Deep Impact type affair, but it's nothing like those at all. I liked it.

questura
you guys really found it confusing?

i must say i didn't have any problems following it at all

MildPossession
Well I enjoyed it a lot.

I thought is was good. It was beautiful and intense, but I didn't like the stupid melted man thing, it just seemed so out of place. It was also so bleak that I probably won't watch it again.

questura
hmm

any more reviews?

Ushgarak
It's really not much good. Some nice ideas but far less than the sum of its parts, and ultimately absolutely unsatisfying.

it takes eight minutes for the light from the sun to get to earth.
FOR SEVEN YEARS I TALKED WITH GOD, mint lines, cool idea but it was done really badly, hello plot, back story, anyone

Rafkins_Warning
I just saw the film yesterday, which is early here in Louisville cuz the movie didn't officially come out till today, Friday... so I got to see a special viewing of it and it was utterly AMAZNG!

I rate it as just as good as 28 Days Later or better even!

The whole thing was just great, Danny Boyle knows how to direct a film and freak us out the whole time we are watching it... me and my friend were clinging to each other the entire time, it was that scary/suspenseful!

I recommend that anyone who wants to be freaked out go see this film, its just that great! yes

Patient_Leech
I kind of liked this when I saw it long ago at the theater. The slasher-type-film ending kind of bothered some people, but I thought it worked. This is one I've actually been meaning to watch again to see how it repeats.

I can see that. That's part of why I'm curious to see it again, to see if it's still just as bleak on a second viewing.. heh.
