There have been some comics of late that I think that can be defined as science fiction comic books without that 'super hero' fantasy eliment attachments. Science Fiction - as in something serious along the lines of a good SF type novel mindset, or at least maybe something just darn entertaining similar to TV Scifi.
Here's a list... and please add to it if you can think of any.
Christian Gosset's ambitious 'the Red Star':

Katshuiro Otomo's epic 'Akira':

Tara Tallan's SF adventure 'Galaxion':

Yukito Ashiro's 'Battle Angel Alita':

Jason Degroot and artist Carla Berrocal's gritty SF adventure 'Mad Trio':

I was very tempted to put Mike Barron and Steve Rude's 'Nexus'. I suppose it cold easily be super hero OR Science Fiction or both. It It's a tough one because it has the fantasy eliments, like Superman, but it's seems almost like 'the Red Star' in it's attempt to paint a futuristic society and/or space travel.
Any others?
