Rugby is a sport that has been seriously under rated in the USA. I want everyone to know about this wondrous sport. RUGBY FTW!!
In rugby, the aim is to get the elongated ball to the try zone at the opposite end of the 100 yd pitch. This is called a try. Doing so scores 5 points, and you then have to attempt to make a conversion, in which you have to kick the ball between to posts, and above a 3rd in between. This gives you and extra 2 points.
The twist is, you can only pass the ball by throwing it backwards. How ever you can kick it forwards.
The team is made up of 15 players, 8 forwards and 7 backs.
Tackling is simple, but sometimes painful. To tackle, you have to get the opposing player (carrying the ball) to the ground, where you can then pick it up (as long as you are not on the ground as well), or set up a ruck. In the ruck, the forwards bridge over the player/s on the ground and push really hard against the opposing players. Then, the scrum half (a back) picks up the ball and passes it back out into play.
Occasionally, a scrum will be called. The two forwards make get into certain positions and have a sort of super ruck. the scrum half puts the ball into the scrum, on the ground. The two teams push, and then try and get the ball to come out of the scrum towards their team.
any questions?
P.S, Vinny will probs have a go at me for getting something wrong, but a proof read is always welcome.
