SathanasInferno
well cliff burton woz legend but flea from the red hot chilis and king from gorgoroth are legends

Darth Jello
does baritone guitar count? I've been trying to find a nice left-handed six-string bass tuned E to E as well. something like a Fender VI

vanice
Yeah Jaco Partorius is really good. But John Patituci is definitely up there and Victor Wooten also.
But double bass is the real shit. ( I'm a jazz fan stick out tongue )

He's not actually better than Victor Wooten.

i'm still fascinated by the brian gibson (of lightning bolt) tuning method. he uses a banjo string?

el_barto

I can.

I'm not too bad, but I'm not great.

Nellinator
My favourite bass player is Jack Bruce of Cream. Love the fretless bass. Wooten is the best I've seen and Les Claypool is cool too. I like Harris too because he is one of the few bass players to write his band's songs.

el_barto
My favorite would definitely be Rob Wright of NoMeansNo, the guys a ****ing god.

souvinir
i play bass and guitar....id have to say fieldy from korn is good and lars frederikson from rancid

vanice

pcp
How do you people know so many bassists? I know about 4 at a push and none of them are particularly brilliant. Having said that, despite not liking Iron Maiden, Steve Harris gets my vote.

I have an interest in music, I just don't have a huge interest in musicians.

mr.smiley
Billy Sheehan is amazing on bass. His finger tapping is unbelivable.

vanice
I consider John Mayung being one of the best rock bassists, but I don't have very many rock bassists to pick from since I mostly listen to Jazz.

les claypool without a doubt.

other mentionalbles (at least those whom i admire), p-nut from 311, flea from red hot chilie peppers, victor wooten, and ryan martinie from mudvayne.

Alpha Centauri
Les Claypool...yet Wooten is a "mentionable"? There are many bassists better than Claypool, technically. None better than Wooten.

Wooten aside I stick by Geddy Lee. Although Tony Levin, Chris Squire, and John Entwistle should be mentioned as well.

Nellinator
Entwhistle is one of my favourites.

Ytse
Hell yeah.

I'm pretty into bass guitar. As far as who is the best:

1) Jaco
2) Wooten
3) Who cares?

I play bass, and I'm so glad I chose it instead of guitar.

Les Claypool, and Matt Freeman for me.
