Is killing Cap Marvel's way of saying the American ideal is dead?

It just seems to me all of the stuff in marvel now is all War!

ex: Civil War, World War Hulk, Silent War, and with whats going on with the Atlanteans.

I think it might be their way of protesting the real life war. I was also thinking that maybe their killing Cap might be their way of saying the America we dreamed of when we grew up and when this country was founded is officially dead and may even have been dead for some time. I just really got allot of that form Frontline #11 when Sally said some things to Steve! Truthfully I agree with them almost whole heartedly and its sad to say but the America today is not what it was supposedly meant to be. Its all corporations and no one can convince me this war has anything to really do with democracy/terrorism and not oil. At least IMO!

I think that Marvel needed a change.
What better way to start then to kill off Captain America.

It brought the company money, and real news stations talking about it.

Look at the buzz that killing Capt created. It was money motivated.

Therefore the American ideal of $$$ is alive and well.

It was all for shock value , just like Superman.

If Cap "refuses to stay dead", or some bs, I'll buy the comic just to burn it.

I'm disgusted enough with Marvel Earth at this point to boycott it and tell all my friends to boycott everything from it, for the next year or two. I forget who said this in the Civil War Report thread, but I'll say it again. **** punt ftw. Someone needs to slap that ***** upside the head for daring to upbraid the greatest hero on Marvel Earth like that. And after he apologized to the country and admitted, that even though he believed his side was right, that he was wrong to fight for it the way he did. I'm gonna wait for WWH, when they'll hopefully correct this shit, put Stark in a hospital, get rid of Sentry, and have the US govt. apologize to captain america. If they don't do all of the above (not expecting the last two, but Cap needs to be freed at least), I'm boycotting Marvel Earth FOREVER.

If anything it'll show that the American ideal can't be killed as someone (other than Punisher) will stand up to take on the Cap mantle, or something cringe-worthy along those lines.

Jade Lightning
I think most of the reasoning behind it is for the future of Marvel and as someone else said, they needed some change, but I agree with you in that his death stood for a lot more than what it seemed, especially the brutal and un-heroic manner in which he was killed mercilessly. I think it is a bit of a satire on the US government today... Cap represented the people and the people have really become bargaining chips for the democrats and especially the republicans who hold all of the power... He was standing up for the ideals of democracy rather than the Patriot Act of the Marvel Universe.

no

He's gonna join Hulk.

Juntai
If anything it shows that the American ideal is very alive.
He thrust himself in front of his persecutors to save a life, as his last moment.
RIP for now, until some cosmic event reboots you, Steve.

Nah! The Death of Captain America implies that the writers at Marvel are clueless and tried to salvage that hideous Civil War business. DC tried to pull the same nonsense when they made it appear Uncle Sam died in IC.

If the American Ideal is dead...then there wouldn't be ANY comic books to read and entertain us.

I doubt that since Uncle Sam is nowhere as recognizable or iconic as Captain America

Then we'll find out there can only be one, true Captain America.

*red gloved hand shoots up from the ground* Honestly can there be no good way to bring him back stick out tongue

Honestly I hope CA does stay dead if he dies. I'm tired of people coming back. I just hope if they do replace him they do it with the right person.

Bru had Cap's death planned well before CW, Other than the tie-in issues he didn't write anything to do with Civil War.. I thunk.

No, but the ideal is lost!

I think Cap's death had nothing to do with anything going on in America today, if it was there are much more impactful and less vague ways to express feelings than simply having Cap killed off.

As for the America ideal, we haven't had it for about 5 years now. America doesn't work with it's allies, we have abandoned diplomacy, and guaranteed freedoms have been trampled on by the current administration.

This is the same administration that squandered the world's goodwill after 9/11, the same administration has lied to its people for 5+ years and ignored the wishes of those it was elected to lead. This is also the administration that has seen countless criminal investigations of republicans under them, and is suspected of leaking names of their own agents for the most pety of political reasons (her husband disagreed about WMD's).

Cap's death had nothing to do with that IMO.

DigiMark007
We already have threads about Cap's death and this also posts an entire issue. .....a big no-no.
