hey basically i got a new comp around christmas time with media center i then got vista free froma M$ rep i know for doing him a favour. and it run fine no slow down anywere. apart from with media center. i realise my system will need a upgrade for H2vista but i honestly know nothing off computer innards at all so. so could some one please tell me what needs upgradeing to run the newer games on the market

Ok for easy reference, i'm just going to sum up the important parts in this easy to see list for future reference:
2.8 ghz pentium D: dual core
1 GB memory
ATI radeon X1300.


Ok having typed that out I would actually say that your just pretty much all set. Hardware wise, I would say your pretty much allset. But just remember to update your video card drivers so as to get more performance out of your computer.

well atm media center loads extremly slow at about 2 fps or less.

well i installed the catalyst control center and to no change. i have a huge drop in frame rate in movies and media center still loads like thrash

Is the drop in frame rates for movies outside of media center or within the program? Have you tried running it on different players?

i'm not very well versed with Media center related problems since I just have no personal use with it for myself. So try these guys instead.

Have you tried to set your PC so it can run at best performance instead of best visually?

^Now thats just hard to do with Vista. I dont think many people would be willing to go to the registry edit and manually manipulate the code to disable 3d desktop (which is actually something that has to be done to turn it off IIRC). And then theres that glaring issue of DRM(data rights management), which is just so damn detrimental to the Hard Drive and performance in general.

I never said go into the registry no was I suggesting going into the registry when you have this optionin your computer propertise. Its in Windows XP... I have no idea why you would suggest to go into the registry.

What I was thinking about was fundamentally, the 3d desktop of which you would turn off in order to increase performance in some way. The desktop windows manager in otherwords, which is definitely required if your hellbound on playing games on a Vista OS. Instructions here:

What your referring to is to permenantly disable these features which really can be shut off without going into the registry.
