SnakeEyes
Come on guys, I want some more opinions on this!

Silverstein
300

I'd say 300 too, but marv's part was great...if it was more like that throughout the movie maybe it would be closer...but 300 had nonstop, and i do not use that term loosely, nonstop action.

ragesRemorse
if im going for a story i have to go with sin city. Seeing as there is no story in 300.

If im going for action and emotional resposnes. I guess id go with 300.

i think there both made just aswell as each other. both are original and captivating, but i have to go with sin city. It seems to be more engaging and and complete.

roughrider
300, because it felt more free to expand and deepen the story and characters, and wasn't as obsessed with adapting the graphic novel virtually word-for-word, panel-for-panel.

thats probably because there wasnt enough material to adapt a 90 minute film.

non-stop action? What about those sections with the queen?

IMO,

300 was WAY better then Sin City.

Which movie told a better story? That would be Sin City, no contest. There was no story in three hundred - that isn't really too arguable.

Which movie was BETTER? Production values, emotional response, look, feel, experience?

300. No contest.

aside from the fact that the movie consisted only of one liners that tried to envoke emotion, and a shotty story that was better as a comic, yeah i may have to agree with you.

Because the movie followed the comic, nearly verbatim. confused

thumb up Yeah what he said.

Sin City had far more to it than 300 .... also, "epic" war movies have been done to death in recent years.

yeah, i own it. I think some things just work better on paper.

300 was the better film in my opinion. Sin City is good the first few times but it gets old after you've seen it two or three times. Hartigan imo was the best part of sin city because he wasn't as two dimensional as marv, and I didn't care for Dwight's part in the story. But three hundred had great war scenes, great actors(sin city did as well) great speeches and to top it off it was closely based on true events as far as the war scenes went. I mean I can't think of a scene that I didn't like besides like two parts. 300 wins for me by alot

Newjak
I liked both a lot but I liked 300 better

teampac08
For me it's 300. No doubt it has a lot of cheesy one liners and characters but that's what I expected. I expected to see this movie that would pump me up through music, action, and of course even the one liners. Seriously, all those quotes from King Leonidas had to to pump you up. "Tonight we dine in hell!" or "Madness? This is Sparta!". How about that song fever dream? Just makes you want to fight lol.

Sin City, I like film noir.

Hmmmmm i wonder what this is

sin city is a better film, no question. i can see why people may prefer 300 as the battle scenes are very good, but these people obviously don't care about story, great acting and smart films.

Yeah, I can see what you mean.

Although, to be fair, the poll/thread is about which film you prefer, not which is better.

I would agree with you though.

300 for me, was a much more exciting film with a better graphical style and a lot more impact. I just watched Sin City for the first time last night and I can't understand all the hype, its quite boring to be honest, with the dialogue nothing special either.

Ouallada
For anyone who said that 300 lacked story, read Gates of Fire. That should have been the source material that was adapted for the movie instead of Miller's graphic novel.

Oh, and 300 was the better movie. Sin City was visually cool and all, but it was really really disturbing. I mean, Bruce willis rejected Jessica Alba. I was disturbed.

??? I'm just saying that's how I feel about sin city I can watch three hundred over and over and over again and still love it. Sin city not so much.

Thats not a story, thats a backdrop. Just because i put mickey mouse in a film about the revolutionary war leading a squadren of other mice in a fictionalized battle doesnt make it a story of substance. sin city consisted of several different stoires intertwined and connected by a backdrop. 300 was merely for emotional reactions rather than a story of epic proportions....millers exact words there, and he wrote the story so he should know

el barto_1
Sin city by far. 300 was way over hyped, I was frankly quite dissapointed by the lack of action and the poor flow of 300.

Sin City is a master piece... 300 is just a cool movie

Ask this question again in a year, when the boner people got from 300 has dissipated, and I think most people will tell you Sin City was a better film.

Ouallada
300 had a simple story at heart, as do all grandiose movies about war. At heart, it is simply a bunch of people facing death and not being afraid to sacrifice for a greater good. it was kind of a shame that the movie focused a lot more on the cool factor, instead of the storyline. Anyone who has read Gates of Fire will tell you at once that it was excellent storytelling, and had some of the best psychological discourse and characterisation I have ever seen in a novel. 300 was and still is a good movie, but it could have been much better.

Sin city was not really any different. The storyline, I dare say, was just as simple as 300's, but without the grand scale of the former to back it up. Both had great visual shots. Sin City had Dwight's red shoes, while 300 had that scene where the Spartans used their shields to block the rain. Sin City imo was considered a good movie because of what it dared to do, and that it had a decent, albeit simple storyline to back it up.

Micheal_Myers
Never saw Sin City but 300 was astounding and I think it would be very hard to top.
