Hi I'm doing my dissertation on Spiderman and i want to find out whether he is a comic book hero or a movie icon. It would be great if i could get lots of views on this topic so please explain your answer. Thank you!

Although his popularity has undoubtedly been boosted as a direct result of the movies, I think most people realize that he is originally a comic book character. Therefore, I'd have to lean more towards the "Comic Book Hero" side.

Yer, even before the movies people knew spider-man was from a comic book

Why do you think that he is both?

because the movies reached and eastablished a large fan base that never read the comics.

When the movies can make more money than the comics, im gonna say that spidey has broken through into the movie realm and earned the title of movie icon. The spiderman movies will be a memorable era for many people, just because of the movies
