DAY OF SILENCE, April 18, 2007: The Day of Silence is an annual event held to bring attention to anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools. Students and teachers nationwide will observe the day in silence to echo the silence that LGBT and ally students face everyday. In it's 11th year, the Day of Silence is one of the largest student-led actions in the country.
😊
My high school did the Day of Silence for the first time when I was a senior. Some parents found out about it and was convinced the school had some agenda to turn kids gay, and it was going to be discussed at a school board meeting if it'd be allowed again. About 30 students turned up (half of which had just graduated a week before, like myself), and I was one of the ones that spoke in front of the school board.
Needless to say, it still happens every year there 😄
