So yesterday afternoon, i stepped into the dental clinic for what i thought was the usual cleaning, and came out as a braceface.
i had no idea it would hurt this much.
i wasn't even aware my teeth needed fixing...my teeth aren't crooked..but apparently i need minor jaw adjusting or something.
all i can think of now is the pain , and the more of it that is to come, and the day, hopefully not too far off when i get these things out my mouth!
so dear kmcers who have been through a similar experience, educate me how to get through this and send good vibes my way.
please and thank you!

HA! I mean...that sucks.
=Tired Hiker=
They told me I would have braces for only two years and it ended up being three years. The rubber bands will make your mouth sore as hell for the first few days, yeah ibuprofen, then you'll get used to them and you won't even know they are the there. You'll adjust.

You must be excited! and you'll have perfect teeth too!
yeah...my teeth never looked problematic...they have no gaps and aren't crooked or something...but apparently not perfect enough and the nurse said mine was an "easy case" so..*shrugs*
whatever is this Ibuprofen?
i haven't taken any painkillers...yet. but its just the second day now.
and i can't eat! or chew! every teeth of mine is achey and my gums are sore.my tummy hungersand i've been living on soup.
note to all: don't take chewing and biting for granted!

Punkyhermy

Baby Bear
Well well punkyherm I got braces too. When they put them on they hurt but you'll get use to them later on! It hurts cuz it feels like the orthondonist is pushing your teeth into your mouth.
I suffered that pain millions of times but I managed to outlast it.
I have to where them for two years. I got like 6 more months to go!!! My appetite for food has grown also. I don't know the deal about that but.............
All for the better its going to come out just fine!!
Mišt
Just wait til the wires start sticking out and cutting up your gums and inside of your lips, thats fun.
Everyone bitches about the pain, I never had any, ate McDonalds the day I got them in srug
Punkyhermy
i actually managed to feed myself food that wasn't all liquid-y.

*=DeathReaperr'
im supposed to get my wisdom tooth removed soon

Punkyhermy
ow.
mine too...right after the dental treatment. *freaks*
Punkyhermy
must be off to teeth brush...i'm too lazy to...but i must...
bogen
Hamburger the day i got mine in, was ill advised because i woke up feeling like i had been punched in the mouth several times.
My braces were also self tightening so it was always sore.
Elastic bands were no fun either, constantly felt like your teeth might be pulled out for the first few days.
Also, once you do get them off wear your retainers!
I almost had to get re-equipped with the hardware cause i didn't wear them
Punkyhermy
wow...okay.
will do.

G U I T A R
Wouldnt know never had braces....BRACE FACE!...J/K...not.
Punkyhermy
LOL.
nah..i am a brace face.

Eccentric
I had braces, when I got them I had to have 2 injections in my mouth. Stay away from hard food, else the wire breaks/comes loose then you have to go to the dentist as soon as possible and that isn't nice. I also got wax so that the skin inside my mouth could get some relief from the scraping of the braces. Don't worry the pain soon goes away and you get used to them - well I did anyway, it only hurts when the braces get tightened but that also goes away.
Puzzle
My turn to go to the dentist...but not for braces. I need to get a tooth examined and possibly extracted. It's been killing me since Friday morning and has been keeping me awake at night if I don't load myself up with meds. The pain goes from my tooth all the way to my forehead. Just wanna get it taken care of even though I can't pay for the dentist.
Eccentric
Goodluck with that, I've had a tooth pulled, it wasn't that bad, just a lot of blood.

I get to go tomorrow at 1:15pm. I haven't had to go to the dentist in quite a long while. This is a major blow to my wallet too, since I am out of work for the time being I have no money and have to ask the parents to front the cash for me.
Eccentric
Damn, that sucks. Dentist costs aren't too bad here but it'll still make a dent in your wallet.

The quote I received isn't too awfully bad (about $180, plus whatever cost for the anesthetic), but it's bad enough when you have $15 to your name.
Eccentric
Geez, I have to times that amount by 6-7 to get it in my currency and that is a crap load.

$180 here is about a weeks pay for a low paying job.
Eccentric
Geez! Well South Africa is very bad when it comes to finding jobs and job quality, so I guess that explains a bit.

That sucks. I've got a bunch of friends who used to have braces, and they all hated them.
Me? I've never spent more than 15 minutes in a dentist's office. The typical routine is this:
I walk in.
Dentist uses the mirror and pick and comments on how beautiful my teeth are.
Dentist does the brush thingy (which tastes and feels terrible, amirite?)
Dentist does the flourine thing.
I leave.
15 minutes.
I've never had a cavity or any other complication, and I consider myself very lucky.

They learn to use a dental dam in Dental college for the brushing and other things.
But I've only had one out of like 10 dentists who ever used one.
