Bible contradictions or am I just uninformed?

Does the Bible truly contradict itself or are we just uninformed, unprepared, and too shiftless to research these supposed contradictions? I am certain that if we took the time to do as the Bible says,
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.
that we would discover that the Bible does not contradict itself. The word "rightly" divide means to "correctly interpret," especially after careful research of all Scriptures on that particular subject. Many people are not prepared or capable of rightly dividing the Bible because they have never truly read the Bible from cover to cover (incidentally, I have read the Bible from cover to cover). I surmise that many people pick up the Bible and read isolated Scriptures, causing them to receive a skewed or incorrect understanding of the passages contained in the Bible. Proper understanding is gained by close examination of the context and from cross references that help to clarify or corroborate what you have read. The first impression of a contradiction causes many people to stumble and conclude that the Bible contradicts itself. People simply need to "study" God's Word in full context. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is the only one Who can truly enable a person to discern, recognize, and understand that the Bible has a spiritual "import" and underpinning. You must be clued in as it were by the Holy Spirit to understand His Book. Well, the link that I have provided addresses any, and all alleged Bible contradictions.

That and perhaps people simply read the Bible with biased, denominational lenses, and presuppositions about certain subjects.
Bardock42
Or...maybe....the bible just contradicts itself when going by the basic principles of logic and taking the probably incorrectly translated English versions.
Which reminds me, how do you guys view a translation of God's word? Yay or nay?

A lot of the time, yes it is. I find that most Christians have no idea about anything beyond whatever English translation they use which can be a problem.

Actually, here is what the Bible states:
Leviticus 18:22
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
1 Corinthians 6:9
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
Romans 1:26-27
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
1 Timothy 1:10
for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,
I am not sure that you know how to present a statement for consideration and then provide support for it. We had this same incident when you claimed that God does not love us because we are sinners and sinners go to Hell.
Let me see if I can understand what your argument here is.
Here is what you write lord xyz,
"The Bible says you shouldn't be gay, but the Bible also says love thy neighbour. That's a contradiction"
The Bible states that homosexuality is an abomination. I do not see any contradiction here. Show me where the contradiction is lord xyz. I love homosexuals but I do not approve of homosexuality because God says that it is an abomination. God loves the homosexual, but He hates homosexuality. That is not a contradiction. Do you love someone but hate certain things that they do? For example, I hate drugs but I love the addict. I hate drunkeness but I love the drunk person. God loves the sinner but hates his/her sin. We love the homosexual (i.e. the person) but we hate the homosexuality.

"You shouldn't be gay" does not translate in application to "do not love gay people." It just says you should not be gay if you are a believer.

Well if people belive God wrote the Bible, then of course they belive the bible is perfect. However,if your like me and you belive the bible was written by mortal men, then you probably belive the thing has quiet a few mistakes in it.Instead of listing a bunch of incositancies, for now I would rather get a bit philosophical on the subject. It seems to me to be very funny that as long as men has had the ability to write, god or gods have been writing laws.It seems to me if their was a god with laws then we should be hard wired to know these laws instead of putting 'faith' into it.I belive faith is a word that has been used rather unjustly.Anymore it seems to have this meaning:Beliving in something you know that isn't true. What i'm trying to get at is this.Instead of god writing a book thats now old and looked over with controversy,it would be a lot easier if he just came down and told everyone.Instead we are told he works in mysterious ways and to have faith. To me that seems to be more of an excuse than an answer. While I fully belive their are forces at work I can't comprehend, their has to be a bit more logic behind such answers for me.If god works in mysterious ways and we are to have 'faith' then i am led to the conclusion god is a pantheistic deity who dwells within the universe, rather than outside our realm of exsistance.

Do I realy I have to answer that? The problem is quiet obvious. The god of love great test is sicking and just plain evil.Stories like this is what convinced Valintinus that their were two different gods.He belived the OT god and NT god were two different beings.Any god who would test his followers like that is a mentaly ill being and should probably be in a comic book. What if god would have asked Abraham to crash a plain into the twin towers?would that be ok too?
If someone living 'today' told me god told them to kill their baby to prove their loyalty & then was told by their god it was only a test,I would call the cops and have the child taken away.Anyone with common sense would call such a person mentaly unstable.

The interesting thing about that story is that God had promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations through Isaac. The calmness of Abraham is emphasized in the original text and it become obvious that Abraham knew that if he killed Isaac God would raise him from the dead anyways to fulfill his promise.

But God would not tell you to kill your child. There are deeper spiritual implications with regard to God telling Abraham to do it, that at the surface you do not understand. At first view it just looks like God wanted to see if Abraham would do whatever God commanded. God never intended for Abraham to sacrifice His only begotten son. God knew what "He" was going to do (God was prepared to intervene and stop Abraham from going through with the sacrifice.) God knew that Abraham fully trusted Him, but Abraham needed to know "practically," that he trusted God (not just theoretically.) For example, I can say that I believe God or that I trust him in a given situation, but if that situation never arises then how will I really know that I trust God? Faith must be "tested" for it to be developed and strengthened. How do you know that you can trust your significant other unless you allow her to do things and go places without you present? How do you know that you can trust anyone to do anything that they promise? How do you know that you can solve complex equations? You must be tested right? If you can't do those problems then the test will reveal this. Well, Abraham's test just happened to involve his son. God was getting ready to do things in Abraham's life that He had never done in anyone's life. God knew that ultimately His only begotten Son Jesus Christ would be a descendant of Abraham. But the Bible states that without faith it is impossible to please (God). Abraham trusted God insofar that He believed that even if He sacrificed his son Isaac that God would raise him from the dead because God had promised to make Abraham a great nation. Abraham trusted and believed God so much that He didn't hesitate to go through with the test (even though Abraham did not know that it was a test). Abraham trusted God and believed His promises with all of his heart. Faith is complete trust in the Word of God. Similarly, Christians believe that they are saved from their sins and on their way to Heaven on the basis of the Word of God that promises them this. Just like Abraham we are willing to sacrifice our time, energy, effort, reputation, finances, family relationships, goals, interests, job, or whatever is at stake to take God at His Word and exercise faith in Jesus Christ for salvation from sins. Believe it or not most Christians have never seen God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit or Heaven, but they still live their lives in subjection to Him through what: His Word. That's it? Yep.
mr.smiley
asking someone to sacrafice their son is no sane way to prove loyalty.I could also list Gnostic meanings within gospels but you would easily dismiss them.

Of course the Bible contradicts itself.
GEN 7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
GEN 7:8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, GEN 7:9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.

The NIV is more of a study Bible not a teaching Bible, I have both King James and NIV. The problem is that people don't understand or comprehend what the Bible teaches, and people mistranslated the Bible for there own use and interpretation, because they don't like it for telling the truth, that man are wicked and sinful. That's why we have so many false religions claiming to be the true word of God, not knowing that there own false Bible contradicts itself.

Not a real contradiction, but the bible says "Does not nature teach you that it is a shame for a man, but an honour for a woman to wear long hair?" Yet, in almost every picture of Jesus and other Saints, they all have long hair. hmm

The paintings of Jesus are taken from images in the very early church. However, those images are not of Jesus, but of Zeus. Jesus had short hair and was was a Jew. The paintings of Jesus today are of a long haired Greek man.

The first picture of Jesus with long hair showed up in the 6th century. The church of Constatinoble claimed they found a cloth Jesus wiped his face on.In response, the Roman Church said they found a painting that an angel had created that was a portrait of Jesus. Both depicted him with long hair and a beard.Painting in the Roman catacombs from the fourth to fifth century depict Jesus with short hair rasing Lazarus from the dead with a magic wand! These paintings also show jesus turing water into wine with a magic wand.

Dionysus was also said to have been fathered by the king of heaven, been born of a virgin, to have transformed water into wine, been the liberator of mankind, and to have returned from the dead.
The Dionysus myth also contains a great deal of cannibalism, similar to the Christian Eucharist.
Dionysus was also distinct among Greek gods, as a deity commonly felt within individual followers.

Symbolic cannibalism is not cannibalism.

You are right, the difference between symbolic cannibalism and actual cannibalsim is significant.
What is disgusting about something that is symbolic and representative of spiritual Truth?

It invokes cannibalism.
...and its not truth. and if you ever capitalize "truth" again I will hunt you down and cut out that capital "T"

Cannibalism is disgusting to civilized humans in any form. Most people do not realize the "Ukerist" is symbolic cannibalism. If they gave it any thought, they would be sick.

Dionysus is never supposed to have returned from the dead. There is one, single inscription that that claim is based on and it describes Dionysus as "a god who renews himself and returns every year rejuvenated". If you people know anything about fertility and agriculture gods you know that this means that he doesn't even die.
Second, the myth about cannibalism is this:
Dionysus as an infant was set upon Zeus' throne to play at being Master of the Universe. As he sat there, some of the Titans -- bad boys of Greek mythology -- snuck up with some toys and distracted him. While Dioysus was thus distracted, the Titans picked him up, tore him to pieces, and boiled and roasted everything but his heart and ate it. When Zeus got wind of this, he became ticked as he often did, and blew the Titans to smithereens. As the story goes in a later version, from the ashes of the Titans came forth the race of men; D himself was "eventually restored to a new life" from the heart that was left over.
Sadly for this argument this myth is "a myth of unknown origin and contested antiquity". On top of that, it is no where near the same as Eucharist in meaning or practice.
Third, Dionysus was not born of a virgin, that is simply a forgery by Freke and Gandy in The Jesus Mysteries. On top of that, they don't even claim that Dionysus is of virgin birth, only a "miraculous birth".

I posted that more along the lines of a joke, because I think its funny that the Bible says that, yet the Church doesn't condemn any of the long haired pictures.

The claims Dionysus was born of a virgin mainly comes from the merging of his name with that of Osiris, who was born of a virgin.Freke and Gandy get their comparison of Dionysus' and Jesus' birth from the older work of Joseph Campbell. Many ancient gods had stories that revolved around the growth of the next seasons crops.Because they are reborn doesn't mean anything got taken away from their death. If that was the case one could claim Jesus' death ment nothing because he was ressurected.
Nellinator
The ones reborn along with the crops aren't really dying, they are cycling, it's rather different than being slain. Meaning wasn't attached to their deaths. Jesus's death involved certain things that give it significance.
Also, Osiris is the son of Geb, the Earth god and Nut, the sky goddess. I haven't seen anything that really suggests otherwise.

The meaning in their deaths was that the crops could continue, allowing life to continue. It did run in circles but that was a metaphor for life.Die only to be resurrected.
You are right about Osiris,I got him confused with Mithra.

No. He is contradictory...
Only someone who believes in inerrancies in the face of contradictions could believe that statement is correct.
Thats just silly, just like your interpretation of the bible.
