Should Marvel finally let her, and her tragic destiny, be at peace?
I don't want ANOTHER return.
Starhawk
I agree, it's been done to death.
Pun intended LOL

I dont want Jean to stay dead but i also dont want her to come back exactly the same. I think the best thing to do would be to give her her own book that deals with her work as the White Phoenix of the Crown and show what that really means. This would appeal to the Jean fans because she is back but also to the Scott/Emma pairing fans because Jean would be off in space and not a threat to that relationship. It would also show what Jean can really do on her own.
Phoenix Forever
they should bring jean back one more time then let her stay somehow i would like her to be the jean that she was before she encountered the phoenix force. it would be cool to let her keep her telekinesis power that she can control things at a melicular level....but that's just me...
ragesRemorse
im more tired of all of the new x-men characters there to appeal to the movie fans and younger teens than anything

Agreed. I'd love to see a mini about Jean as the White Phoenix Of Crown. We still dont know exactly what that role involves.

I do

That's part of the reason I quit reading comic books all together.Pschlocke coming back started it for me.The last thing I read that I liked was Astonishing,I thought Uncanny sucked. When I saw Mojo on the cover of an Uncanny issue I about got sick. That was about 2 years ago. They might have gotten better.

Little behind the scenes fact, about the original Dark Phoenix storyline...
Chris Claremont & John Byrne had envisioned Jean getting control of her mind and coming back to Xavier & the X-Men - AFTER going on that galactic rampage and consuming that sun which killed that alien planet with it's billions.
Editor-In-Chief Jim Shooter overruled that idea; he said it would be sending the wrong message, Jean getting off without capital punishment for such a monstrous crime. So, it was changed to her suicide. I don't think Claremont & Byrne ever really agreed with the decision. Claremont would lay the groundwork for Jean to return years later, and create that bogus idea the Phoenix wasn't Jean Grey ( that would be reversed.) As long as Claremont was the major player in X-mythos, Jean would be around. Now that he's been removed as the principal writer, and people like Grant Morrison to Joss Whedon et al have taken it in new directions, maybe the Jean obsession will die down. It's Emma's time to shine.
The thing is, if they had just let her die in the beginning, her death could have had the same impact Gwen Stacy's death had for the Spider-Man books, to this day.

I think bringing Phoenix back was okay.I realy think she's a character powerful enough that you can come up with a good reason for her return. However,I think they have brought her back too many times way too fast.Pschlockes return left a lot to be desired. While I didn't agree with the return of Colussus,at least it was done in good taste. His return issue was amazingly done.If every character could be brought back with that kind of impact, the whole resurrection of dead heroes would be a lot better imo.

I am I think she is getting pretty annoying!jm

I'm more interested in rachel grey mostly because of the fact she doesn't continually die, but because she essentially is jean without/ with lower levels of the phoenix power. i think people kill jean grey for a reason - so they can focus on other characters. but i would be interested in a mini series for her to explore the whole WCP thing

The sacred cow should be put in a pasture to be eaten by wolves

and or the love of God let that tramp STAY DEAD!

* er... guys... being the "phoenix" means, Jean will always die and resurrect over and over, again and again... am i right? nah!

llagrok
They can probably get Jamie Braddock to resurrect her.

Yes. But let her stay out in space with other big cosmics like Galactus & The Living Tribunal et al. Don't let her return to the X-Men. She has no place there, since she will never be rid of the Phoenix Force.

Jean probably wouldn't be able to stay out in space with Logan/Cyclops on earth.
LordKaos
She should come back but have nothing to do with the Xmen, since so many mutants are depowered she should come back and try to have a new relationship, new friends etc...While she hides herself from O*N*E*, Xmen, Shi'ar and the Phoenix, of course after destroying a large portion of the Shi'ar empire.

Jean is a relatively boring character, who had to vampirize her own daughter to be palatable to the masses.
On the other hand, you need a few uninteresting mutants to highlight the interesting ones.

You don't think Rachel is more interesting than Jean? Rachel was interesting, back when she first arrived and had run ins with Selene. I don't like her in the current uncanny x-men. Screwing the phoenix sword guy and all that, ugh.
Genosha
I always liked Rachel better, but she did have the advantage of being in Excalibur, which was by and large richer and better written than most of the other x titles.

Are you serious? I never liked Excalibur much for some reason.
Starhawk
They need to leave Jean dead this time for at least a decade, any sooner then that and fans will just be too sick of her.

* i've always thought Jean Grey portrays a sex symbol in X-men... the writers have managed to make her ooze of sex appeal... but the storyline make fans sick of her... why?
Genosha
I tend to disagree, Jean herself is almost completly unaware of her own sexuality. Especially when compared to characters like Rogue, who's all pent up passion and Emma, who radiates seduction.
If you look at it historically Kitty Pryde has always been the X-men's sex symbol. She's the spunky girl next door, where as Jean represents the privliged upper class. Everything comes easy to her because she's smart and pretty, and everybody (in the comic world) loves her for it. Even with the challenges she's faced, she's nevery really developed as a character and yet she's always forgiven. Because she's Jean.
Other characters aren't alowed to hate her because she's so perfect. As a result we hate her double to make up for it. The universe craves balance.

How could you not have liked Excalibur?!?
The characters are great, the story lines are some of the best written. I was horrified when they disbanded and thrilled when the started up again. Personnally, the only x title I liked more was Generation X. I was also heart broken when that ended.

* yes, Jean herself is somewhat unaware of her own sexuality but being "that" makes her oozing with sex appeal... how ironic... and not to mention, the writers and the artwork, her outfits, her costumes, ah you know what i mean... and she's portrayed as "perfect" but that's not what she really is or was... may i know what is this "because-she's-Jean" thingy?

Britrogue
Who has some decent pictures of the White Phoenix? I've heard about it, but never saw those comics.
llagrok
I don't think they should've let Sublime kill her.
redhotrash
No no no, let Jean go. She strikes me as everything I dislike in a female character. Generic attitude towards things, ridiculous power that lets her get away without ever having to get her hands dirty, and the fact that shes the most force fed female x-man all leads to my contempt. "Hey, lets match her with Wolverine, then people will be all over her". Yeah whatever.
Ridley_Prime
I only agree with this topic when it comes to the movies. Otherwise, I'm fine with her comic & cartoon series appearances and what not. >.>
Genosha
What's that? You obliterated countless billions of lives because it was fun? Well as long as you're sorry. Gee, your hair smells nice.

Good point

Phenom1985
I'm sick of Wolverine taking all the major roles in X Men movies.
Jean Grey the Phoenix is the greatest of them all.
Genosha
What?!?! What alternate time line did you fall out of? While Wolvie's not my favorite, one thing you can always say about him is at least he's not Jean.
F***, I mean really people. An interesting character is one that has to struggle and suffer and sometimes even fail before overcoming. Jean lacks an engaing personality and the Phoenix is too over powered. We all know before the fight starts what the outcome is going to be, so who the %*@ cares?
That's the reason that I love Gen X and Excalibur. They aren't the strongest mutants, but they're fun to read, and you still have the ability to be surprised by what the characters are (or aren't) capable of.

It's been proven over and over Jean cannot control the Phoenix Force - it controls her. She is dangerous to be around, and if she returns should stay with the high cosmics; put the relationship with Scott to bed. I mean, Scott admitted that marriage to Jean got stale after not very long.
WheretoVirtue?
God I hate her! Like really did she have to kill Cyclops?! And prof. X- it's like holy crow all the X-Men should just go after her.
She's boring and it pisses me off how Wolverine cries all the time about her. He's tough, I don't want to see his feelings.

Jean isn't supposed to control the Phoenix, she's supposed to do it's work! Twice when the Phoenix has manifested as it's dark persona (the only time she wasn't in "control"

, Jeans main consciousness was either suppressed or not present it was simply her rage and passion personified. When she fully connects there are rushes and she sometimes needs to be grounded, once she is, there are no issues of control, she goes about her work. Jean got over Scott the moment she pushed him to be with Emma, a separated and confused fraction of the force thought it needed Scott to attain power enough to end this separation and confusion. Scott never had problems with their marriage until after he was separated from Apocalypse. Could you imagine being wrapped as tightly as him and then suddenly finding yourself merged with somebody you consider to be ultimately evil, yet you have no say in what is going on, I imagine anybody would be a completely different person, his life was essentially over and then he was given a second chance minus the psi-link, which was created by Jean's telepathy in the first place, it's strange she didn't even seem to want to reestablish it.
Locard
When shes not Dark Phoenix, Jean Grey is probably the most boring X-character ever created. I agree, she must stay dead.. for a change.

Iunno about Emma... Does anyone else feel like they're shoving her down reader's throats? I do.
But I agree with the Gwen Stacy comparison. I think Jean's resurrections have become rather annoying.

I agree. Jean's pretty sexy (from a girl's perspective, anyhow). You don't have to be in-your-face in order to have sex appeal (like Rogue or Emma).

i'm sick of jean she is boring and marvel gives her to much atention
starlock
Bring back jean, also bring back the Phoenix, all emma does is annoy me, and she is just a plot line for a writer down the line to just throw her and her past back into uncertainty..although i agree the writing has been crappy...except for astonishing....i could do without emma or jean...let cyclops be his own man
