I couldn't stand the first album, but do quite enjoy a few songs on the new album.

I don't want to get into a big discussion about the Arctic Monkeys, I don't even pretend to know alot about music and will simply not waste time defining a genre so to speak, but the Arctic Monkeys have a vibe that I enjoy, and despite all the NME comradery that has always followed them, I truly think (yes me, the blue collar music lover) they are a good band, the lyrics hit a chord with me in particular.

Detest my opinion if you will, but I really could not care less.

They have a song called Brianstorm, though.

Surely this warrants the death penalty.

theres a lot of Franz Ferdinand in that Brian Storm riff and theres always been an air of John Cooper Clarke fronting a hyped up Buzzcocks about them but rather that than most of the tripe out there

catchy indeed, but there's some genuine insight as well. "catch that spark" is pure naivete romance, and "sleepyhead" describes my depression disturbingly well. and i LOVE the beginning on "americans in rome"...the slow burning bass synth drum intro, into the perfectly timed post punk flavored refrain... droolio. that's even discounting the perfect pop of tracks 1-5, as well as the twee brilliance of the second hidden track (bunny, i'd like to take a secret trip--to see if my heart still skips everytime you're around).

you know i love the progressive surf revival, but i got to give credit where credit's due.

Surf rock is a pretty defined and easily recognized genre of rock, it deserves it's own sub-genre. No, good bands don't make filler songs. Filler songs aren't 'bad' songs; they are filler songs, created with the express purpose of filling space. A song can be bad without being a filler song.

Creed are one of my all time most hated bands...I despise every note, word and sound that comes out of this group. They are horrible in a countless number of ways.
