Since it's become obvious that an ample amount of scenes were deleted or reduced from the released version of SM3 including subplots, we've opened up a new petition for a director's cut which I think everyone here should sign and spread word of if possible.

Given some of the negative responses (personally I love it) the studio may want to do some spin coverage plus there seems to be more footage missing this time around than in the past. Peter Jackson has done it, lets hope Sam does as well. The folks behind the petition for a Donner cut of Superman II were successful in their efforts and considering there is larger fan base with Spider-Man, we just may have a chance as well.

I'll admit the success rate for fan petitions are few in number and far in between but look at it this way, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. We can always be a positive factor in the decision process.

this is doomed to failed, sony is happy ($$$$$$$) with the movie,they cant care less about us,i think honestly there was not subplot ever shot this movie just suck,acept it.

hmmm i remember the mirror scene,and seeing chuch with a spike ball shot, but i though it was only for promos and the colectible stick album.
im signing the petition now,but i doubt we will have anything in less then 2 years,becouse for the looks those scenes were never finished,or even shot.
but be warned the script was done while they were filming so many of those scene may had not fited into the final story and were deleted.

I'm led to believe most of them were shot (and in the written script) and Thomas Haden Church even confirms a portion of them during the brief interview in the link.

"I think when they were testing the movie it became just too tragic, and it started to, I think, imbalance the other stories. It's a little bit of a drag because Theresa was terrific and Pearla was terrific, but I think they just felt like, as I said, that early emotional anchoring is there, and maybe it's better that it becomes kind of nebulous after that. Pearla captured this quality and Theresa captured this quality that was kind of at once tragic but hopeful. And I think that they really felt like less is more, you just needed a little bit of that to set the stage and then you just turn the ferocity of Flint Marko and Sandman loose."

Anyway, there were many other scenes both known and unkown that were cut as well. It's been said the studio requested that Raimi reduce the runtime of SM3 which makes sense considering the same happened with Superman Returns. Earlier reports had the film at 156 mins. and some ticket sites still have this number listed.

wow the more i read that thread, the more pissed at this movie i am.

I think the movie will be longer on dvd. Its always 2 versions, either the Rated version and Unrated version. Hopefully an unrated we get to see Black Suit Spiderman act very evil and use some violence. You never know what they do in moveis and what they cut out could be what the movies misses for the fans.

There is absolutely no need to sign some petition. Sam Raimi will undoubtedly come out with an extended cut or director's cut when Spidey 3 is released on DVD.

We don't actually know that and there has been aboslutely no word from Raimi, Sony, or anyone involved with the Spider-Man 3 film who has said anything regarding an extended/director's cut. On top of that, it's not entirely up to Raimi since the studio has the final word on matters of this nature but encouraging them to take part in a new cut is a good step towards making it a reality. The more support and fan requests the better, and as I said earlier we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

There will not be any news regarding an extended cut or directors cut until Sony announces the DVD release date.

I don't like the idea of Director's Cuts unless the director really thinks the cut that went to theaters wasn't the film they were wanting to make.

You'd be surprised how many films are cut down...not because the director wants to but because the studio fears the audience may not like watching a 3 hour film. Remember Kingdom of Heaven, Superman Returns, etc.?

No, I'm not surprised. But I think a lot of the "director's cuts" that are released are just to soak up more money. But of course that doesn't negate any enjoyment people may get out of watching them.

That's true, but that doesn't negate the fact that many times this is not the reason these films are spliced to begin with. The original film in my views seems to have been closer to 3 hrs. in length and I don't believe Raimi intended to reduce it this heavily. Studio pressure can be a doozy...

superman returns have a directors cut? cos the movie suck plain and simple, daredevil also sucked,but youd be amazed how much better the director version is,the directors cut,actually have a story and plot,while the movie was just a dumb action movie.

Yeah Superman Returns had lots of footage cut before hitting theatres but never received a director's cut or extended cut. Apparently they believed the film was already too long and decided to trim it down. It's a shame too because the scene of Superman visiting the remains of Krypton looked amazing. The director's cut of Daredevil was definitely better than the released version. A lot of footage was taken out from SM3 that would have really added more depth, understanding, and expansion on the motives of the various characters. Plenty of action sequences were reduced or cut as well.

Petition or not, Of course there will be a directors cut of spiderman3. there is director cuts, special limited editions, incredibly ultra exclusive content editions, The GOD edtions and the if you dont buy this edition your a loser edition edition. You dont need a petition for studios to market any and every type of edition they can. Ten years from now we will have the 15th anniversary spiderman edition with 30 seconds more footage
