Curious to know peoples thoughts on the odd path that horror films have stumbled upon via Hostel 2 and Captivity. Personally, I'd pay to see Elisha Cuthbert read the phone book. But is there an audience for this?

This again?

I swear there was a discussion like this that opened up when the first Hostel was released.

And yes, it's been shown that there is an audience for this -- mainly young men who want to see "how far they'll go" and girls who want to see people dismembered and murdered so they can scream and then giggle about it afterwards.

The torture in the first hostel was really crappy with the exception of a few parts, most looked fake ( like the eye popping out of that womans socket ).

ragesRemorse
how is torture porn new for horror films? Its been done since the 60's

I'm way too relax today...not much in focus...so bare with me, please....

Are you asking if there is an audience for the Movie franchise Hostel OR are you asking if there is an audience for real acts that are based on the film?

All I know from word of mouth and rumors is that they do exist. There are places in the world where humans perform torture, sadistic, cruel, and bloody rituals on other humans.

Would I pay to see the real thing....No, I wouldn't.

Would I pay to see the movie? Yes of course! I like the gore and blood factor.

Bardock42
I'd look at people being tortured for free...doesn't seem to be worth money really.

WrathfulDwarf
Bah! Those boring porn videos of people wearing latex and whips is old. stick out tongue

Bardock42
They really are.

Did anybody bother watching Captivity? If so, How was it?

exanda kane
I think all these gormo are in poor taste, and I'd hardly say I'm out of touch...at the moment.

allofyousuckkk
Captivity isn't out yet...is it?

Darth Vicious
yeah, it came out last friday

There is nothing new here. Even a most a basic knowledge of 70's exploitation cinema will show you that 'torture', horror and sex have been a bedrock of cult cinema.

This is simply a return to such attitudes on a more mainstream stage. Only the modern films tend to have very little of the heart, quirkiness or that pure exploitation asthetic...They tend to be very empty and too self concious of their sub-genre.

But it's nice to see harder horror and general exploitation making a comeback.

I don't get the hype of Hostel. People calling it sick and twisted entertainment for sadistic freaks obviously haven't seen it. The "torture" scenes were few and not in depth at all. The goriest thing you ever see is a woman's eyeball sticking out, then getting cut off (gross, yes, but the film itself did not live up to it's controversy). In fact, most of the film was the main character trying to get laid, running from goons, or kicking their asses.

Mr. Sandman
I'm into S&M. So yes, there is an audience.
