Im sorry people this is one guy that has made some of of Emo haters unhappy(I think). I justed wanted to ask Am I Emo? The reason why I asked is because Im quiet and I don't really socialize much. Also people say I have a boring personality. If I ever became EMO I will never devote myself to cutting my wrist. So can anyone tell me......AM I EMO?

As an ex-satanist who lives his f*ckin' life as metal as possible, I don't understand why metalheads bash on those they consider emo.

If it's all about the music, then emo, much like punk is dead. The genre has suffered enough with downfalls and the losses of such great personalities. I am in the Deathmetal genre for the music. A real musician mingles with all walks of life so he/she can learn. I've been to Christian rock concerts, emo shows, Jazz fests, Ska 'bouts and Metal riots and I've emerged with a new sense of understanding.

If you're speaking in terms of fashion, then by all means, if you're onstage and it's important how you look? F*ck off, and get off or be thrown out.

In terms of just socializing. Some are called emo, others refer to them as nerds or outcasts. Just admit it, some of us suck at making new friends. Let alone hanging onto them. Emo is closely related to those that live their lives with cliffhangers. Suicidal with problems and seeking attention. these people don't need to be bashed any further, they should be taken care of.

Im sorry people this is one guy that has made some of of Emo haters unhappy(I think). I justed wanted to ask Am I Emo? The reason why I asked is because Im quiet and I don't really socialize much. Also people say I have a boring personality. If I ever became EMO I will never devote myself to cutting my wrist. So can anyone tell me......AM I EMO?


Im not gay cuz people think EMOS are *******. just to throw that out there. If your going to give me a hard time about me asking u all about rather im a EMO or not just don't do it in a bad way.

- Self harm
- Attention seeking
- Feeling sorry for yourself all day.

If you're none of the above, then I woudn't worry about it.

Although I do have a friend who calls herself "scene", I always thought "Emo" and "scene" meant the same thing, but apparently it doesn't, and she's proved that because she's not an attention seeker, she doesn't self-harm, she just dresses as an emo and has some big obsession with emo guys and songs.

Actually it came from 80s bands catagorised as emotive hardcore, which was a more musical form of hardcore punk. Bands like Minor Threat, Bad Brains and Fugazi, and in the modern day it was bands like; Saetia, City of Caterpillar, Yaphett Kotto and Circle Takes the Square (I don't expect you to know those.). It was then shortened to emo-core, then emo. It has nothing to do with the actual word "Emotional.", because that'd make no sense, as all music is emotional. These are facts, by the way. Go review one of the countless other threads in which I have defined what emo mean to people who have no clue.

Those bands you mentioned are pop bands, and have absolutely nothing to do with emo. The only people who believe they are such would be kids who have zero clue about the history and evolution of modern music. Go back to watching TRL and calling music what they tell you to call it before coming and telling me what catagorisations are or are not.

Go do some research, there are sites.

I think what is bothering you is that I was right. You are in no position to decline that being 'Emo' is not a subculture because it is. Fake subculture, inofficial subculture or just wierd subculture does not matter. It is a subculture. It is also a behaviour even if it is an inaccurate usage of words. It is a behaviour that today youth call 'Emo' which inofficialy makes it 'emo'. You may not like it. I do not like it. That is unfortunatly the way it is. Punk is a music genre. It is a subculture too.

Me not going to the music forum is not a sign that I lack brain or have some special kind of brain that do not go there. I adore music. I love music. I know a lot about music. I used to be in a band. I listen to everything. I have favorite singers. I have favorite bands. I have favorite guitarists. I have favorite drummers. I have a great sense of music. I love everything from singing alone without background music to great orcesters. I listen to music as good as constantly no matter what I do.

I do not talk about music because I do not think anyone have the same sense of music and I do and I do not consider others worthy of my musical opinion. That is why I do not visit the music forum. My views are unique and I prefere keeping them to myself until I find someone that really can understand my sense of music.

My brain is most likely in a league far ahead of yours. Just talking down upon other members is a proof that you do not share the same wisdom as I do.

There is such a thing as what has come to be known as the "emo scene.", this is not what I was denying. The FACT is that the bands currently being labelled emo are not making emo MUSIC, just because they adhere to the emo SCENE. I just call all people who adhere to scenes, scene kids. I don't do them the dignity of giving their scene a name, but if you want to label THIS particular scene and its stereotypes (The fringes etc.) 'emo', do so. Bands dressing this way do not inherently make emo music just because they encompass a modern emo LOOK.

Bruce Dickinson looked more like someone from the punk scene when he performed in Iron Maiden, a metal band, but you didn't hear anyone calling THEM punk.

A band is not making emo MUSIC just because they adhere to what has come to be an emo SCENE. They are separate.

Even in this case, bands like Bun Bun named do not even adhere to the stupid scene that HAS been created by MySpace kids everywhere. They're just normal pop bands.

My issue is with people saying bands are making emo music when they are not.

And yeah some of the "Emo" bands are more.. Bubble gum sounding. But it's defiantly different that "Pop" music now adays.

Times change along with the music. Styles change with the times. Then "Meanings" to certain styles may be different...

They are today's pop bands that 13 and 14 year olds love, they make pop music.

You not liking this does not mean you can throw them in the same genre as The Appleseed Cast, it doesn't work that way.

My argument was simply asking you, as an inhabitant of one such country myself, if you'd ever been to any to know if that's the case?
