After helping in sealing Orochi, Kyo is recuperating when a mysterious scroll with a sinister-looking dragon emblem arrives on his doorstep. Knowing that it is too soon for another KOF tournament, Kyo opens the scroll.
It is an invitation to the Mortal Kombat tournament. And it is being held in a foresaken realm known as Outworld.
Kyo is put in at the very last minute, since the current champion, Liu Kang, was incapacitated under mysterious circumstances and the powers that be appointed Kyo in his place.
In the tournament, Kyo fights his way through the competition, with Rayden assisting him by frying Kintaro, giving Kyo access to the Outworld host, Shao Kahn.
As Kyo will find out, Shak Kahn is no Rugal, Goenitz, or Orochi for that matter.
