Fight takes place in a fairly well flora covered area (not a swamp or a rain forest... think like...a decidious forest)

Adam Warlock does have the soul gem.

Now my question is basically... would the soul gem work on the Swamp Thing?

yes it would . Swamp Thing has a soul, and hence the Soul Gem could hold dominion over it.

and where exactly do you have evidence that swamp thing has a soul?

But if this is in DC then the gem doesn't work right?

The Soul Gem has shown an inability to effect beings such as Galactus.

There is nothing to suggest it would have any more effect on an earth Elemental.
