What exactly is the difference between classic and current Ion? Don't they both have the same power source?

To put anyone up against classic Ion is foolish...You can't even begin to fight him...He is part of the fabric of the universe, and he is omnipotent. He also can time travel, stop time and even EXIST in multiple time lines at once.
