We all know, there is no air in space, we all know superman goes into outer space all the time and he's fine, superman doesn't need air to live. So why in superman 3, when that machine thing released a bubble that wrapped around supes did supes start to suffercate?

Superman can hold his breath for hours on end, atleast in the comics and that is how its explained there.
