Vargas takes Kaine EASILY.

I'm not sure if they can beat Hellboy though, depends.

Mongoose is in the running since he stalemated Thor & Spider-Man

I see it being between Kaine & Vargas. JMO 😄

All I know about him (Vargas) is what I read in the Wiki bio ... and going by that he's a 2nd rate Captain America.

Afraid not. He appeared early in x-treme x-men.

Knocked Rogue out with 2 punches, was so fast that Gambit couldn't react to him. He killed Psylocke, beat Rogue, Beast and Gambit twice. In the end Rogue was able to get the drop on him and eventually defeated him.

All in all Rogue w/power recall is a bit better.

Sounds decent, but I'm still leaning toward Kaine unless/until I see any of this guy's appearnces for myself.
