Should I get a credit card. I'm really tempted to get one and just pay back the minimum a month, should I bother? Will the debt be too intense for me?
Röland
If you are disciplined enough to keep up with the payments and shit then, sure go ahead.
I myself will probably only get 1 whenever I start working in my actual job field after I graduate in a couple years. But trust me I've seen family members get in big trouble from credit cards.

Just remenber that there is no such thing as FREE MONEY.
Whatever you borrow you'll have to pay it back...with your own money.

Whatever you do, DON'T simply pay back the minimum per month, else you will be paying off even a small debt your entire life. Interest and fees and all that.

I totally didn't catch the "minimum per month"
Yeah, do not pay back the minimum, you will screw yourself.

Yeah, I was thinking that. Do you know whether it's possible to alter how much you pay back per month? Like if I could pay back the minimum for a while, then when I have more money, just go at it and pay back the maximum?

I think you have the option of paying whatever amount you want so long as it's over the minimum.
Personally I don't know entirely for sure, though, as I don't have a credit card.

I think I might do that then. Because I get paid monthly at the moment and it's a nightmare, it would just be nice to have a credit card to use in times of need.
ragesRemorse
Get one just dont use it. By having credit cards and not using them, you increase your credit report. Thats a little free tip for you, its a nice loophole.
However, unless you like hidden charges, insane interest rates, and paying three times the price for an item. I would advise against it.
chillmeistergen
Yeah, I think I will get one, but just not go wild with it. I'll only buy things I need or desperately want. Plus, I'll still be having my monthly pay anyway, so fingers crossed, I won't need to use it that much.
Scythe
Get one with low interest, that's what get you. Do you have any credit even built up?
ADarksideJedi
I would not get a credit card if I were you.It always end up to be trouble.I am still in dept.It is very easy to get carried away.Cash or depit cards are alot better!jm

You're only eighteen. Getting a credit card right now would be foolish and irresponsible. And you just proved that you would be that way with it by saying you'd only pay back the minimum.
If you only pay back the minimum you will ALWAYS be in debt which can effect you credit in the future.

Well after my wife gets out of vet school we will be over $300,000 in debt with our school loans
We have already paid off the credit cards, but you have to watch out for them.

Yeah, I've heard that they're a bit of a nightmare. The one I'm thinking of getting is a mastercard from Lloyds TSB, it's got a good rate of interest (11.9% APR) and it has 0% interest on purchases for the first 6 months.
I could get an overdraft, but the credit card is more for security than a lot else. Especially as I'll be going on a round the world trip in January, and if I lose my debit card while I'm on that, I'm fvcked.

Ah i see, yeah the lloyds one looks a lot better, also i forgot about the old balance transfers, if a better apr comes about. Think the only other good thing about them is they do improve your credit rating, well they do if you pay them back and dont end up getting a visit from bullet tooth tony.
