Zera, Queen of the Seraphim returned in Spawn issue 169


Apparently, Mammon and the cloaked figure recovered her decapitated head on the Earth ground right before God Spawn wiped everyone out.


Nyx, the witch who sewed the spawn symbiote back into Al Simmon's heart, after Cogliostro took over the 8th circle of Hell and turned Spawn back into Al Simmons, returns.

NYX was tricked by a false sorcerer, who had Zera's head in his room. As soon as NYX looked at Zera's head, Zera's spirit possessed Nyx.


It was revealed that since Zera was God's favorite angel, he granted her immortality. She could never die. Even being decapitated or dismembered (like Medusa)

That is her Blessing, and her Curse.


Zera, taking control of Nyx's body impaled Spawn, and he refused to fight back because he did not want to hurt Nyx.


Suddenly, a local Witch walks into the room, sees Zera's head, realizes that Zera is taking control of Nyx, so she throws Zera's head over the ledge.


When Zera's head falls over the ledge, it lands on the street where these possessed dogs eat it.


It is unknown whether or not Zera is still alive, but since it has been declared that she is immortal, and can never die, the only conclusion is that she lives as pieces of flesh in the stomachs of demonic dogs.


Spawn forgives Nyx for her betrayal of him earlier, and Mammon gives Nyx back her powers (he stole it from her before). Mammon tells the cloaked character that he no longer needs it.



It's getting really interesting man ! I can't beleive Zera came back !

I didn't mean to spoil, but I could say the same for just about every thread here. There are a lot of comic story lines I do not regularly follow, to which I now know the spoilers to.


I guess I should be angry at Mr. Master and Galactic Storm for spoiling everything for me about Marvel


There are very few Spawn fans here, and if you are truly a consistant reader of Spawn, then I apologize for spoiling last month's issue.


However, if you are not a monthly reader of Spawn, then why does it matter ? I'm sure there's a lot you don't know about Spawn, and to reveal ANYTHING about the him would be a spoiler.


Point is, I don't care. I will update on all information, being one of the few Spawn fans here. If you do not wish to know, then don't read.

I care less what you put in here, I could care less what gets spoilt for you just don't do it for other people, if it bothers you just leave and make us happy, I am just disappointed that your not banned yet with your terrible threads. I have every Spawn comic there is and have read almost all of them apart from some extra series so yes I read regularly.

I think If Urizen came back, that would be a hott idea, but difficult to imagine why he made no appearance during Armaggedon.

Point is, lotsa people do care, hence the disturbance you've caused through the inclusion of spoilers

There are a lot of people who read these threads and don't post. These people actually care what's in the title of the threads they are reading and do care if someone spoils this for them I'm not having a go at you, the same applies for any thread in any of the forums.

As to Takion's theory, it may be possible. However, the Urizen that Spawn, Angela, and Greenworld defeated was a weakened one.


Since he was trapped in the Void for so long, he hasn't consumed in the longest.


He grows as he consumes. Greenworld warned Spawn that if they allow Urizen to continue, the entire world would have been in chaos. By then it would have been too late to stop Urizen.


In Heaven, the angels were arguing that Urizen was growing stronger by the hour. Even Domina was so worried that she disobeyed the Seraphim's orders to stand down.


The 13 Players of the "Rabbit" Game which would have served to summon Urizen to Earth announced that Urizen represnted the Void, an end to free will and thus an end to all conflict.


That is the point of Urizen's existance. To destroy everything, so that there is no more conflict. No more war. And he can. That is why Heaven and Hell feared him so greatly.


The extant to Urizen's power is unknown, but what is known is that he is one of the Elder Gods of the Universe with the elemental power to absord and destroy. And since he represents absolute nullification, he himself cannot be destroyed. Only contained.

He is basically oblivion personified. No good, no evil, just empty darkness.

Issue 170- Hellhouse


The witch Nyx- who used Spawn's power to travel into Hell to save her freind Thea, who was tricked by Mammon into giving him her magic, who helped Redeemer escape Hell- has a dream about Spawn killing her.

When she wakes up, she asks Spawn if he is still mad at her. He says no, that he understands her reasons for what she did, and that he isn't innocent either. He's done things he has not been proud of.

She talks to him about Nature. She tells him where her power originates, from the power of the Earth * (possibly Greenworld), and that like her, he too can summon this power.


With a spell, she turns his demonic hand back into Al Simmon's human hand. She tells him that deep down inside, he is just like her.


Spawn tells her no. As he speaks, insects come out of his hand. He says that he is indeed part of the Earth, but not like she imagined it. He is composed of the bugs, the maggots, the insects, the parasites, the lowest vermin of the soil.

He sees the Earth through thier eyes.

If you guys remember two old characters: Ab and Zab


Abbadon and Zabraxas, are two minor demons, "Gate Openers". They specialize in opening portals between realms, minor or grand.


These are the two demons who released URIZEN under Malebolgia's instructions back in issue # 95. These are the same demons who banished Simon Pure and the rest of the Vampire Covenant with that gateway they created, which in turn also took Sam Twitch's son (who involuntarily became a vampire, because of his girlfreind who was one of them).


Anyways, Ab and Zab were unable to return to Hell, because of the trouble they would get into, so they stayed on Earth. When Armaggedon arrived, they were killed along with everyone else. Spawn brought everyone back, everyone who was on Earth before he wiped everything out with the "White Light".


Spawn (as God Spawn) may have closed the portals to Heaven and Hell, but Ab and Zab were still on Earth. And just like Clown (who was banished to Earth), and Zera (whose decapitated head was recovered by Mammon), Ab and Zab were also stuck on Earth, despite the closings to Heaven and Hell.


Ab and Zab were bored. They lingered around the states with nothing to do. One of them happened to see an ad in a porno magazine for something called "Hellhouse"- an Evangelical showcase which condemned abortionists, Gays and Lesbians, Atheists, and "Liberal" minded citizens (like your typical ultra conservative rightwing nuts).


They decided to go check it out, because it sounded like fun, and there was nothing else to do. As they approach the door, a man tells Zab that they don't need what the Evangelical Hellhousers are selling. He tells them that the "Church of the White Light" has shown the truth, and exposed the Lie of God and Satan.


Ab and Zab enter the "Hellhouse" regardless and talk to a reverend and his assistant Ada. The Reverend tells Ab and Zab that thier mission has always been to put the Fear of God into non beleivers. He claims he has seen the devil, he knows the devil is real, and only through Jesus can they be cleansed. The Reverend says how murderous abortionist women are, how disgusting and perverted Gays and Lesbians are, how sick and twisted people of other religions and idealogies are, and shows them a video of these people being punished severely.


He says that only through Fear can these "sinners" come back to God.


Ab tells the Reverend, "Well, it's kinda hard to put the fear of God into them, when they already experiened Armaggedon and survived it, isn't it ?".


Ada, angered, claims that it was ALL a test from God, and that the "real" Armaggedon is soon to come. The Reverend says that no one beleives anymore, Evangelicals have lost the power they once had, and everyone rejects God and Satan.

Ab and Zab come up with an idea. They tell the Reverend that if its the FEAR OF HELL he wants to inspire, then they can help him. They tell him to give them 48 hours, and within that time, they will show everyone the Truth of Hell.


With black paint and newly constructed doors, Ab and Zab open a gateway into the furthest backshore of Hell ! Ada is skeptical, so she goes through one of the doors. Inside she sees a man hanging by a rope. It's her old Principle, and he is screaming at her for the lies she spread about him when she was his student. She led him to kill himself. He then screams, "It's time to be cleansed of your sins"


When the Reverend hears Ada's screams, he rushed into the door, and sees a giant insectoid-like demon draining the blood out of Ada, having destroyed her face with its tentacles.

The Reverend, terrified, asks Ab and Zab "What did you do ?!?!". Ab and Zab tell The Reverend, "You wanted Hell ? Where here it is you Douchebag !


They reveal to the Reverend that they are truly demons, and that they opened a gateway into a lower minor level of Hell.

As the Reverend tries to run, Spawn arrives. Spawn chains up Ab and Zab, who beg for mercy, and as Spawn is about to punish them he hears light screams from one of the doors...


It sounds familiar....


He looks into the door, and sees Wanda !


She is pregnant, and she is begging Al Simmons not to hit her again.

Interesting, I've read a bit about Spawn and a few of the comics. Is the movie any good??? I've heard they are making a Spawn 2 that true LU??

They have been claiming to make a second movie for years now, but there is no official confirmation that a Second Movie is coming out.

God Spawn would have easily defeated the version of Urizen he and Angela faced before.



Nobody knows how powerful a full powered Urizen is though....never been confirmed.



I don't think Spawn could get more powerful than he was at God Spawn status. At God Spawn Status he:


-was immortal
-could not be destroyed
-had infinite everlasting energy at his disposal
-could create and destroy as much life as he wanted with ease
-closed the gates of heaven and hell
-recreated the entire planet Earth
-decapitated Zera
-banished all of the Hellspawns back to Hell



I doubt he could get more powerful. He was equal to God and Satan and second only to The Mother of Creation.


In Marvel/DC, I think only Spectre/LT or Thanos w IG, Lucifer, Micheal, or anyone on that level could possibly do any harm to him.

Al Simmons has many repressed memories and did not remember his two brothers.




-Al Simmon's mother and father haunt the house Al and his brothers grew up in. There was a curse put on them that would not allow thier souls to leave the house.

-Mammon disguised as a man named "Mr. Malefick" had an affair with Al's mother when they were younger, behind Al's father's back. While Spawn's father would go state to state as a travel salesman, his mother had a fling with a handsome guy - who she had no idea was the ruler of Hell.


-Spawn's real name is Albert Francis Simmons.

-Al Simmon's mother is fkn hott ! Hotter than Wanda ! I aint kidding, check out the comic yourself !


-Mr. Malefick coerced Al Simmon's sadistic side by having him dissect a live cat in the basement. The brothers thought Malefick was insane, but Al Simmons like him a lot.

-Al and the brothers got mixed up in a drug house, where Al killed a guy who tried to molest his younger brother (when he was drugged up).


That is who the Sin-Eater is disguising himself as.



It is not revealed that Mammon was in Al Simmon's life far before Malebolgia got involved....

I see that I haven't explained the immediate occurance after Spawn relinquished his status as a God.

He asked the Mother of Creation (MoM) to transform him back into Al Simmons. He did not want to be the ruler of the Earth (the new Earth, MoM said he would have total control over the new world).

Spawn didn't care for dominance over Earth, he just wanted his life back. MoM told him that Wanda has moved on, and he could never be with her again. Spawn refused to hear it, and as Al Simmons he returned to Wanda's house.

However, MoM froze his body in space, and lead his soul into the house where he would hear Wanda's and Terry's conversation.


Terry was jealous of Al Simmons, because he knew that Wanda still loved Al. Wanda admitted that ofcourse she does, she always will, but she will never go back to him even if he was still alive. They could never be, and Terry is the man for her.

Why ?


Spawn found out that when he was Al Simmons he used to abuse Wanda. He doesn't remember it, because that memory was repressed.

Every now and then he would twist her wrists, smack her face, bruise her arm...if she ever said or did anything he was insulted by.


One day she got pregnant, but she was too afraid to tell Al. She knew he would prompt her to get an abortion, because he did not want a child. He couldn't have a child, because his military life meant everything to him. Al could be very loving...but he could also be very cruel hearted. Al simmons had the ability to switch back and forth, from good to evil, from loving to hateful. He could be warm as the sun, and as cold as ice.


Wanda eventually told Al a few months later that she was pregnant. This was the night before his last mission that Jason Wynn sent him on.

Wanda told him she wants the baby. That it's hers. He calmly looked into her eyes, and told her that he loves her. And that when the time is right, they will have a child. But then in a quick flash he punched her in the stomach.

She fell to the ground in agony. The baby died in her uterus.


That baby was supposed to be Cyan. Cyan, in spirit, is Al's daughter, even though in Flesh she is Terry Fitzgerald's. That is what the MoM told Spawn...deep down inside he knew Cyan was supposed to be his. That is why they have such a connection.


That night, Al Simmons left to his mission. Wanda was going to tell Al Simmons that it was over. She was going to leave him. That next morning she found out he was dead.

Al Simmons was assassinated by Jessica Priest and Jason Wynn.

The latter follows where the apartment buildings of New Vista are being cursed with unusual occurances. People killing other people, a girl skinning herself alive, a guy eaten by roaches, horrible things.

Sam and Twitch cannot figure out the problem.

Spawn finds out that it was Clown, who inhabitted the building. Clown was banished to Earth. So when God Spawn closed the portals to Heaven and Hell, Clown was still on Earth.

Clown was planning to re-open the cracks of Hell, but he was stopped.



Then, Nyx gets possessed by the spirit of Zera. I explained that in the first post of this thread...

Speculation suggested it may be:

1) Urizen
2) Deurges (from Curse of the Spawn)
3) A fallen angel of some sort


I doubt its those three. I predict it is some new character, male or female, who gave Mammon an edge when he took over Hell.

Yes. He is more powerful than Malebolgia and more powerful than the rest of the Forgotten. Under Satan, Mammon is the most powerful force in Hell.


However, he is no match for God, Satan, or God Spawn.

He couldn't do anything to Urizen.

He can't be killed. He personifies Oblivion, the absense of Free Will, thus the Absense of Good and Evil. A Blank Mind.

Al Simmon's mother was a SATANIST. She went to a school in Michigan to study comparative religions, and that's where her boyfreind got her involved in satanism and demonic worship.

That is where she met Mr. Malefick (Mammon)

She fell in love with him there. He befreinded her, and taught her about the power of Hell. He was amazed at how interested she was. He told her that he was a Fallen Angel.

When Al's mother saw him as Spawn, she was so proud. Al's father was horrified and asked why had he come. Spawn's mother yelled at his father, telling him that the birth of Spawn is the only reason she even wasted her time with him.

Mammon, as Mr. Malefick, told Mrs. Simmons that her son would be destined for greatness, that he would lead the way for Mammon to take over the world, and that they would rule together.

Her spirit waited in this house, for Mammon's return. Mrs. Simmons asked Spawn when Mr. Malefick said he would return. Spawn told his mother that Mammon, his real name, probably lied and is going to leave her there, abandoned.

Angered, Mrs. Simmons yelled to Spawn, "No ! He's going to come for me ! He promised !"



Richard Simmons, in the mean time, looked at the Bible and then saw Mammon. He asked Mammon "It's all lies isn't it ? There's no God to forgive my sins. There's no Heaven."

Mammon replied "No Heaven you would want to go to. Beleive me, I used to live there".


But then Mammon told him that Hell was exactly what he thought it was..nothing but torment, suffering.




Nyx put a spell on the Hellhouse, leaving Ab and Zab trapped so they wouldn't go anywhere to do any harm. That is also where Mammon confronted Richard.

Nyx accompanied Spawn to his old house, where his mother and father's ghosts were trapped.


Mammon then escorted Richard to a door in the basement. That door lead to Hell. Richard walked with his Bible, and stood there as the floor began to devour him into the abyss.

So basic discoveries:



1) Al Simmon's mother was a Satanist. She fell in love with Mammon.


2) Mammon had her marry Mr. Simmons, since Mammon refused to have sex with her, claiming that sex was an act of human passion, angels don't engage in such a thing. He wanted her to have a child...Al Simmons.

3) Richard Simmons went to Hell.


4) Nyx's powers became far greater ever since Mammon returned them to her. Why ?




What we don't know yet:



1) Who is the mysterious cloaked figure Mammon is working for ?


2) Why did Nyx's magic powers get stronger ?


3) How did Mammon know that Al Simmons was destined to become the greatest Spawn ever ?

Everyone who died because of Armaggedon was resurrected by Spawn (when he was GodSpawn and created the new world).

They were last involved during the affair with Clown, when he possessed the tenants of the New Vista Apartments.

NEW SPAWN VILLAIN REVEALED




Okay, latest issue is issue #178


In this issue, the new cloaked villain who has been spotted accompanying Mammon is revealed. Let me sum it up for all of you:

The entire story is seen through the eyes of an awaken vampire. It starts in a morgue, where two morticians, a guy and a girl are stuffing a dead body. The girl constantly plays pranks on the guy by suggesting that some of the bodies in the morgue aren't actually dead.

The girl then screams "OH MY GOD". The guy thinks shes is just trying to scare him, until he sees these hands grab him from behind. The person who is walking has claws and pale skin, and is angry to still be alive.

The two doctors run away, but are caught by another vampire who eats them both.


The other vampire is the cloaked figure who Mammon has an alliance with. The newly awoken vampire is confronted by our cloaked figure. The cloaked figure taunts this vampire, asking him what he remembers....

The cloaked figure makes the vampire look in the mirror...and see no reflection. Suddenly memories poor in..memories of Ancient Greece, of a slaughter in Rome, of past tyrants.

The History of Vampires is revealed through his memories....




Lucian and Daciana were the leaders of a race called the "Vrykolakas", an ancient term meaning "undead".


The Vrykolakas are what we now call, the "vampires". Lucian and Daciana have secretly ruled the vampire race from the shadows, while other vampires have made thier existance public.

These other vampires are historical tyrants, some known as "VLAD THE IMPALER and ELIZABETH BATHORY!!!!!!! (google them if you are unfamiliar with these sick tyrants)


Lucian and Daciana were in comtempt with Simon Pure, a vampire who lead an alliance of vampires in servitude to Heaven, who all fought Spawn but lost (back issues between Spawn # 120-130 I beleive...I'll check again later...



Simon Pure had lost miserably against Spawn, and his legion were sent to Hell (from a spell which Ab and Zab performed under Spawn's order to do so)




Anyway.....Lucian and Daciana met Mammon long ago. They refer to him as "The fallen angel", "the forgotten one", "The Wizard". They made a pact with Mammon. He brought them a creature...

"HE BROUGHT US A MESSIAH WHO WOULD LEAD US TO CONQUER THIS NEW WORLD. A CREATURE WHO WAS NOT VRYKOLAKAS OR VAMPIRE OR ANYTHING KNOWN TO THIS WORLD"


This creature's name is Morana


Morana is the cloaked figure...Mammon's ally...the NEW SPAWN VILLAIN ****




Morana was raised by Lucian and Daciana...whatever happened to them is still unknown today.


Morana tells the vampire that he needs to bite Spawn. That is Mammon's orders. Part of the plan for the Vampire Age to begin on Earth.


The vampire attacks Spawn, Marc Simmons, and Nyx. Nyx's powers do nothing against the vampire. Marc Simmon's bullet blasts half the vampire's head off, but he is still alive.


The vampire bites Spawn and Spawn is in agony...for some reason it affects him (Spawn had been bit by a vampire before, and nothing happened). The vampire says Spawn's blood (necroplasm) is the most disgusting thing he ever tasted.


The vampire then flies away as Spawn is on the ground in pain, to meet Morana. Morana says well done, grants him his death. The vampire wanted to die...immortality is a curse to him.

But i am not a fan of the repressed memory thing, especially when brothers and wife abuse is revealed, to me its a cheat, i was a avid reader for a long time and i just lost interest,this does not make me want to go out and start buying it again....i guess you had to be with it for the long haul and maybe its my fault for not sticking with it

But keep up the good work here, i think spawn deserves some attention and now he has the perfect person to show us

Well, I think it's the easiest way to retcon the Spawn story from the original intention to this one. Originally, Malebolgia was the top devil...no evil beyond him...and God was represented as an old lady.


Once they introduced Mammon and Urizen, the story pretty much changed. God and Satan were equally evil, equally powerful, and equally absent *


The repressed memories pretty much show how Mammon was involved in Spawn's life from before the beginning..how he manipulated pretty much everything, even before Spawn's existance.

The last retcon they had was when they changed Al Simmon's killer from Chapel to Jessica Priest (due to copyright infringment reasons).


This time the retcon isn't so obvious...it's done smarter.

Oh yeah, just so you get an idea of how much Mammon has manipulated:



1) Mammon planted the idea in Malebolgia's head to release Urizen. This way, when Urizen was imprisoned again, the Eighth Circle of Hell would abandon Malebolgia leaving him vulnerable for Spawn to kill him.

2) Mammon lead Spawn to the Tiend, where he confronted the Forgotten. Mammon knew it was in Spawn's nature to save a little girl from such a cruel sacrifice. Spawn's involvement and victory over the Tiend broke the Forgotten's dependency on Earth, leading them to attack Heaven*

3) Mammon seduced Al Simmon's mother and had her marry Al Simmon's father, so she can have 3 kids. Two of the brothers grew up. Richard became a Priest, while Marc became a Detective. Al obviously became an assassin and u know the rest. Al Simmons was meant to be killed and sent to Hell to be recruited as a Hell Spawn.

4) Mammon caused a witch named Thea to kill herself (due to her tormenting gift of being able to see people's deaths before it happens), which lead Nyx to go on a crusade to rescue her freind's soul from Hell. Nyx kidnapped Al Simmons and linked him back with the hellspawn symbiote- keeping a thread of it for herself* literally a piece of Spawn was in her possession.

This allowed her to become a temporary "She-Spawn" so she can enter Hell and try to save Thea. Realizing that it was too late for Thea, she killed Thea in Hell, ending her total existence.

Nyx made a deal to enter Hell safely with a minor demon lord. The deal was she could only bring back one soul with her. The price was her "piece of Spawn". Nyx met the Redeemer who was trapped in Hell from chasing Spawn down there previously. She decided to bring back the Redeemer for his agreement to protect her in Hell.

Once they both came back to Earth, Redeemer hunted Spawn and weakened him in a fierce battle. Spawn then slew Redeemer by cutting off his wings. Nyx had to keep her bargain and give the minor demon lord her power. Unfortunately, the demon lord was really Mammon is disguise....Nyx no longer had the powers of a witch, and Mammon did.

With this power, he humiliated Spawn by controlling his symbiote...then he erased ALL OF SPAWN's memories...to leave him broken.



5) Now we know, Mammon gave the two vampire lords Lucian and Daciana the "child". This child is Morana, a creature who devours life non stop. A creature who is immortal and has a never ending cruel hunger.



What Morana's involvement in Mammon's plan is remains to be seen.
