Notice first of all that the Surfer makes the right tactical move: he separates Thor from Mjolner. After unrelenting fire, Thor is down.

Notice in the next to last panel of the second scan, where the Surfer says his cosmic field will keep the hammer away, where Thor is crawling on the ground: this is the pause that later enables Thor to win.

Imagine if the Surfer had remained unrelenting in his assault.

This isn't in continuity, much like "Spiderman: Reign". Marvel Knights is now a mostly out of continuity imprint, similar to DC's "All Star".

Ah, well since there was no disclaimer about it NOT being in continuity, I'd say it was a bit misleading to some.

fantastic fight, now looking back upon it. they resisted the temptation to inflate the Surfer to Galactus levels of power, yet they still made him greater than he was, by highlighting his resolve and tenacity as well as again demonstrating how phenomenally tough he is (the many times he's taken blasts/hits from Galactus in the past are often ignored).

Surfer even states he's channeling the energies of the crunch, and the foreboding in his language explains Galactus' point afterwards, that Surfer was dying as a result of The Crunch energies.

true, not saying he hasn't been one-shotted on occasion, comes with the territory for Surfer . but he's also got a long history, going back to his rebellion from Galactus, of getting swatted away by Galactus without losing consciousness or even much momentum.

he definitely has been upgraded but, I'd say that's more evidenced by Galactus saying he would upgrade Surfer, than the T&A fight itself.

oh and the blackbody he absorbed during his fight with UniLord, I think that might have been the only upgrade he's ever given himself (aside from temporary amps using solar/cosmic energies, to achieve particular immediate objectives).

I wish they'd actually made some reference to that, in later comics.

It's a power-up though, and that's about all I know about it. Maybe someone with better knowledge of Deathurge could tell what it might contribute to greater effect.

I don't think I've ever seen Surfer challenge/test Thanos much. it's one of Marvel's unstated rules that Surfer must turn into a moron when fighting Thanos (or Thor even ).

given Surfer's record for damage soak against Galactus, T&A, UniLord, Murungu (sp?)... Surfer should be able to really make Thanos work, at the very least. instead .

In Magic the gathering terms Thanos has "protection for Surfer".

It kinda makes sense, doesn't it? Thanos had everything the classic Surfer had to a higher degree, with the exception of speed. Add to that superior intellect and ruthlessness and you've got yourself a Surfer killer!

Still, I'd like to see Silver Surfer as he is now stack up against Thanos. And I'd like to see him take a solid win from current Thor. There, I said it!

I am not a Silver Surfer fan at all, never was, but he should always be a challenge for Thanos. Especially after Annihilation, I think with proper writing, the battle between him and Thanos should be hard.

I totally agree. Post annihalation surfer had a huge durability upgrade which would make a match against thanos more interesting. Also current thor may have the odin force but by feats id still put current surfer ahead of him.

Let's hope the writers are thinking along the same lines...and not another armbar.

I daresay Abnett and Lanning would give Surfer a great showing against Thor, as would Giffen. JMS would probably have Surfer stalemate or lose to Thor (since he has been working hard to move Thor up in the respect hierarchy). McDuffie; well, we've already seen what he would do. Loeb?

Just chiming in here; I think that Post-Annihilation Surfer should give current Thor a good run for his money if he doesn't beat him in the end. Overall it would be, if written right, a good showing for both of their upgrades if Thor kept his Rune magic. Other than his few showings at the end of Thor Disassembled he really didn't show case this power up that supposedly put him over Odin in power.

The way i look at it, he grabs and lightly throws him then turns around for a fore arm blitz..

Eitherway its an even more impressive speed to grab someone and he thinks it was some kind of energy...

Not that I'm condoning the use of feats from the Skrull, but if they were actually equal in power wouldn't it be something of a coin flip as to who won a fight between the two? And if the Skrull was ruthless while Surfer was pacifistic wouldn't that actually give him an edge?

These are not direct feats but shows how marvel heroes/characters view Surfer's power

#1) Strange believes that Silver Surfer has the power to dispatch Thanos at this point in time.(remember this including Strange , Genis , Hulk , Namor)

#2) This is when Champion(with gem) defeated all these heroes in boxing type H2H.

Look at She-Hulk's reaction on how she thinks
Silver Surfer > Drax , Gladiator and Beta Ray Bill

#3) When Thor( with gem) had defeated all the heroes Pip says to Sufer than he is their best chance.

This included heroes like BRB , Strange , Adam , Drax etc

#4) here Tyrant says that Surfer is the most powerful out of all the ones he captured: which included Gladiator , BRB , Terax , Morg etc

here narration saying there there are few in the MULTIVERSE with the power to do anything to the surfer.

I've been reading alot of vs. threads where these doods keep saying that superman would beat the Surfer but i STRONGLY disagree. The Surfer seems to have WAY too many powers for superman to contend with. To me, the fight shouldn't last more than a couple of minutes. If that. A couple of questions: how do you think norrin would do against superman, wonder woman (since alot of dc fans rank her so high), hal jordan or the Juggernaut? Also, is it true that they're doing a surfer movie? Keep up the good work playa.
