I've added his Wiki. He's basically the video game equivalent of Cap (super soldier) minus shield and I don't believe quite as physically strong, but he has a far more diverse arsenal at his disposal.
Also, about game mechanics, Metal Gear is based on realism. His mechanics aren't "toon like".

Ok, Snake is a beast, I could literal post 10 paragraphs of info on the guy, but I'll try to make it short.
Solid Snake is the one that is fighting is this thread, he is basically a clone of this guy called Big Boss.
Big Boss was one of the most perfect soldiers ever to fight on the battle field, he was able to take down 8 of Russia's elite soldiers as well as Revolver Ocelet (This guy can bounce bullets of walls to hit his targets) and I believe they only got like 2 shots off. (that missed of course)
Big Boss, was the parter of Boss (2 different people, Big Boss is a guy, Boss is a female). Big Boss, and Boss invented special force combat training in the military during world war 2. So all the Military Style combat training cap received, it would be because of these two (assuming that they are in the same universe).
Boss (female) was a bonified MONSTER, this chick was carrying two Tactical Nuclear warheads in each arm, effortlessly, she was also able to Punk the Superhuman Thunderbolt Volgan (A superhuman guy that can fire electrical type blast hands).
Big Boss (guy) was never able to defeat Boss (female) before the end of metal gear solid 3 (great game, Fantastic story from a military perspective, you should play it really).
I have alot more to say, but I'm about to roll out for a few minutes. There are websites out there with more info, just google it.
