A/N: Well, I'm back with fresh new ideas...one, anyways. This is a “choose your own adventure” type of fanfic. There’ll be a few chapters at the beginning which have to be read by everyone, and then depending on your SHIP preferences you can choose one way or the other. Or you can read both. =) For this fanfic, let’s just pretend that the 7th book didn’t happen. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are NOT going to look for horcruxes and are going back to Hogwarts, Dumbledore is still alive and headmaster, and Ginny and Harry haven’t gone out. It's a little bit short to start, but it'll get longer once I have a bit more to work with. Enjoy!

PS: I don't own Harry Potter. That magical world belongs to the one and only JK Rowling.

Prologue: Confession Time

“YOU’RE WHAT?!” screamed the redheaded boy.

“I’m kinda…sorta…in love with Ginny? And Hermione?” Harry Potter said, unsure of himself.

Harry Potter, age 17 since three and a half weeks ago, had a problem. It wasn’t the problem that a certain dark wizard by the name of Lord Voldemort had murdered his parents and was now after Harry to finish him off. No, Harry Potter had a problem that would probably seem stupid to anyone else. Girls. That was Harry’s problem. Sure, he’d been around girls forever and he knew that they didn’t have cooties, but still. Harry chose that to be his problem that he considered worse than fighting a dragon.

Harry’s problem was that he was in love. Aw, young love. How sweet. Not to Harry. Harry happened to be in love with Ginny Weasley, who also happened to be his best friends younger sister. And as everyone knows, best friends siblings are off limits. But oh no, the love doesn’t just stop there. Of course, why should it? Harry was also in love with his best friend of six years Hermione Granger. To make this worse, Harry had suspected that Ron was in love with her too.

Now, it’s wasn’t Harry’s fault that these two girls happened to be smart, kind, and not to mention, beautiful. He just couldn’t help himself. He was “just friends” with both of them, and his seventh and last year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was fast approaching. If he didn’t step up and do something about it now, when would he ever get the chance?

“Oh, okay. So I did hear you right,” Said Ron, a tall, gangly boy with Weasley-trademark freckles and red hair. He turned around from where he was facing Harry and continued to throw things into his trunk.

“Yeah…this wasn’t really the reaction I’d thought I’d get when I told you. I mean, Ginny’s your sister and all, and I’d always thought you liked Hermione, so-”

“Woah, me? Like Hermione? I don’t think so, mate. I mean, we always fight and she’s so annoying…how could I ever like someone so stuck up?” Harry blushed as this comment was said, and Ron, noticing his discomfort, came up with a plan right then and there on the spot. A quite brilliant plan, if I might add. Something that will probably never happen again. “I mean, I have a great plan for you.”

“So you’ll help?”

“ ‘Course, what are mates for, right? So, here’s what you do: when school starts in two days, me and Hermione, being heads this year and all, will be able to plan lots of Hogsmead trips. So all you have to do is take them each to Hogsmead once, and then you get to decide which you’d rather be with. There’s only one problem…”

“What’s that?”

“You have to make sure that they don’t find out.”

Thanks! the next (or first, I should say) chapter will probably be up sometime tonight...I think I'd like a few more reviews first though, so we'll see. And if anyone has any ideas for this story, I'm always open for suggestions so you can pm me!

A/N: Never mind! The next/first chapter is going up now! I'm bored, and I've decided to be nice. There also might be another chapter up tonight. I tend to post more quickly when I'm bored roll eyes (sarcastic) Another thing that makes me post faster is reviews. I love getting reviews, and if I get...let's say 3 by tonight another chapter will go up. Although 5 reviews would make my day wink

Also, if you have any ideas for my story you can always pm me with them. I love getting your sugestions and constructive criticism. It will also help me with writing the story later on. I know what I want to happen, but you might like the story a bit better if something you want to happen happens.

And with that, on with the story!

Chapter One: Tickle Me Silly

“I can’t believe how uneventful this year has started out!” exclaimed Hermione Granger as she and Ron walked down the seventh floor corridor towards their new heads’ common room. “I mean, there was nothing about mass murderers on the loose, nothing about dementors guarding the grounds, no tournaments, not famous wizards…nothing! Not even about Voldemort! Although, I suppose Dumbledore’s probably trying to hush all that up. And he’s been pretty quiet lately…ah, here we are!” She had stopped in front of a large portrait of a mermaid who was sitting on a rock in the ocean combing through her long red hair. The mermaid stopped and looked up at them when they stood in front of her.

“Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley?” the Mermaid asked, in a bit of a tune. Hermione and Ron nodded. “I assume you know the password then?”

“Tickle me silly,” said Hermione. After the feast, Dumbledore had met with them, explaining more of their duties as head boy and girl. He had also told them the whereabouts of their heads’ common room, and of course, the password to get in, which happened to be “tickle me silly”. When Ron and Hermione had given him puzzled looks, he explained that one year, many many years ago before he was even headmaster, the head boy and girl put tickling charms on everyone before they left the school, as a way to remember them. It had been the password ever since.

“Very well. Enjoy!” said the Mermaid. She swung her portrait open, revealing a practically identical common room to that of Gryffindor tower.

There was a fireplace with a fire already going. A table sat in front of it, along with two chairs and a couch. On each side of the room there was a desk where all of their school supplies had already been put neatly. Beside each desk was a calendar already scheduled with prefect duties and suggested Hogsmead trips (although they could be changed). At the very back of the room were two doors. The door to the right had Hermione’s name on it, the door to the left had Ron’s.

They each ran straight for their own room. They were both red and gold, Gryffindor house colours, so were the small bathrooms that were off of the rooms. There was one very big bed and a dresser in each room. The only difference was that Hermione’s walls were taken up mostly by bookshelves stacked full of books. In Ron’s room, the walls were covered in Chudley Cannon posters, and he had a special closet for all of his Quidditch things.

“Oh, Ron, aren’t they amazing?!” gushed Hermione, running into his room.

“Yeah. Really great,” he said, a smile playing at his lips. He and Hermione walked back into the common room and sat down on opposite ends of the couch. There was a moment of awkward silence before Ron said, “So, a lot of the third years have been coming up to me asking when the first Hogsmead day was.”

“Really? They must be eager,” Hermione said with a slight chuckle.

“Yeah, so I was thinking we should have one soon…say, in about 2 weeks?”

“Sounds good to me. I’ll make up the notices for the prefects to put in the common rooms tomorrow.” Hermione yawned. “Wow, I’m already tired,” she said.

Ron laughed. “Go and get some sleep. I’ll see you bright and early in the morning.”

“Goodnight, Ron,” Hermione smiled, and left the common room.

After Hermione had shut the door to her room, Ron got up and went to his own room, flopping down on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Oh, how he loved that girl. But he knew that if Harry ended up choosing her over Ginny then there’d be no hope. The plan was already in action. But would it work?

*****

Attention all students third year and up:

The following days have been booked as Hogsmead trips:
September 16th
October 14th
November 25th

Please note that all students attending must have thier permission forms signed by a parent or guardian.

Ron's brilliant, thought Harry as he finished reading the notice. Now, who to ask first? Hermione or Ginny? He decided, since she was coming down the stairs that moment, that he would ask Ginny.

“Hey, Ginny! The first Hogsmead dates have been scheduled!” Harry said, waving her over to where he stood.

“Oh yeah. That should be fun,” she smiled at him.

“I was just wondering, if you wanted to maybe go with me? That is, if you weren’t already planning on going with someone else…”

“No, Harry, I’d love to!” Ginny said, her smile broadening.

“Great. Just, don’t tell Hermione, okay?”

“What? Why can’t I tell her?” asked Ginny suspiciously.

“Um…because Dean told me last night that he thought she might have fancied me last year, and well, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but just in case, don’t tell her. I don’t want to hurt her feelings at all.” He recovered.

“Alrighty then, Harry,” said Ginny, her eyebrows raised.

“Shall we go down for breakfast then?”

“We shall!” And with that, they left for the Great Hall.

In the Great Hall, Harry and Ginny spotted Ron and Hermione already eating breakfast. Hermione gave them a cheerful hello, and Ron grunted, his mouth too full of food to say anything. Harry rolled his eyes and grabbed Ron by the sleeve of his robes and dragged him out of the Great Hall, much to Ron’s protest.

“Whaaaaat?” Ron whined when he had finished chewing.

“You’re so brilliant, mate, getting the notice up so fast,” Harry said, clapping Ron on the shoulder.

“Oh, well, yeah. It was nothing. Just trying to make the plan go smoothly. So, who’re you going to ask first?” he questioned.

“Already done. I asked Ginny this morning.”

“Fine, leave me with Hermione,” Ron joked. “Where are you going to take Ginny? It has to be some place Hermione would never go.”

“Well…to be honest, I hadn’t actually thought of that. I suppose I could just take her to the Three Broomsticks or something…” Harry said.

“No! You can’t go there. Too many people will see you. And what if Hermione wants to go there? She of all people can’t see you.”

“Okay…well, there was this one place. It was horrible. Cho took me there in fifth year. Madame Pudifoot’s…it’s all lovey dovey and such, but I guess it couldn’t hurt. Plus, nobody there would even pay any notice to us. They’ll all be busy snogging the brains out of whoever’s sitting across from them,” said Harry with a slight grimace.

“Ha! Sounds perfect!” Ron said as they walked back into the Great Hall and sat down across from Ginny and Hermione.

“What were you two love birds talking about?” asked Ginny.

“Shut up, Ginny.” Ron said, piling more food into his plate than he could hold. Hermione grimaced at this.

“So anyways,” started Harry, changing the subject, “how do you guys like your heads’ common room?”

“It’s amazing!” Hermione said, and she started into a full-detail report on the head’s common room, how and why the password was “tickle me silly”, and getting to plan the Hogsmead dates and such while Ron continued to shovel food into his mouth.

Just as he was about to take another bite from his second helping of eggs, the food vanished. “Hey!” Ron said, clearly upset. Dumbledor then announced that classes would be starting in 15 minutes, so Harry, Hermione, and a now grumpy Ron said goodbye to Ginny and headed off to first period charms with Ravenclaw.

Chapter Two: The Date With Ginny

The two weeks passed surprisingly quickly for Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny, who spent most of their time doing homework in the heads’ common room. Before they knew it, September 16th had arrived, and Ginny was freaking out because she had no idea what to wear.

“What about this?” Hermione asked, holding up a pink t-shirt. Ginny had brought all of her clothes to Hermione’s room and they were trying to find her the perfect outfit.

“Hermione, when do you ever see me wear that? It’s horrible!” Ginny cried in frustration.

“Well, excuse me. Tell me again why you have to have the “perfect” outfit?” Hermione said suspiciously as she rummaged through the pile of clothes.

“No reason really. Since Ron asked you and you guys won’t be there, I’d like to look nice…maybe Harry will notice me then,” lied Ginny, examining a short green v-necked dress. “What about this?” she held the dress up to her body. It was hot out today; she could wear whatever. Hermione smiled and nodded her approval, so Ginny put the dress on and slipped a pair of white leggings on underneath: it was hot, but not that hot.

“You look great, Gin,” said Hermione.

“Thanks. Now, what are you going to wear?” asked Ginny.

“Oh…well, I thought I’d just wear this. I mean, it’s just Ron-” Hermione looked down at her jeans and black t-shirt.

Ginny sighed. Hermione wasn’t into fashion much, she could tell. “Let’s go meet the boys then.”

*****

Once they arrived at Hogsmead, Ron and Hermione and Harry and Ginny split into their pairs and walked opposite ways.

“Where do you want to go first?” Harry asked Ginny after they had said goodbye to Ron and Hermione.

“I heard they just opened up a new Quidditch store somewhere. I was hoping we could go and look in there.”

After about ten minutes, they found Wendell’s Quidditch Supplies and went in. Since it was new, the store was packed full of Hogwarts students. Being that it was a little store, it was also quite hard to move, so after trying to get in the back to look at the brooms, Harry and Ginny just decided to leave.

“Glad we’re out of there!” Ginny said after breathing the fresh air outside.

Harry laughed. “Me too.”

“Where to now?” asked Ginny.

“Well, there’s this great little tea shop down the way here. They have really good tea. I go there all the time,” Harry lied.

“Lead the way, then,” Ginny said, and they set off towards Madame Pudifoot’s.

While they walked they talked about things: interests, Quidditch, school work, Voldemort. Harry found himself finding it very easy to talk to Ginny.

When they arrived outside Madame Pudifoot’s, Ginny covered her mouth to keep from bursting out laughing. She had come here last year with Dean, and knew how positively awful it was. But, since, Harry seemed to like it, she would go along.

The entered the tea shop and found a table. A waitress wearing a hot pink uniform came over and took their orders and brought them back their tea. Harry sipped from the pink china cup. It wasn’t the best tea. He looked around nervously at all of the couples sitting close together and talking in hushed voices or snogging. He hoped Ginny didn’t want to do any of that stuff. He liked her, sure, but he wasn’t ready. Especially since he also happened to like Hermione. Would his and Ron’s plan even work? Could he manage to take them both out without the other finding out?

“Uh, Harry,” Ginny said, stopping Harry from continuing his thoughts. “It’s raining. We should probably get back to the castle.”

“Right,” said Harry. He threw a galleon down on the table and they left, running back to the castle in the pouring rain.

When they got back, they noticed that they weren’t the only ones soaking wet. They quickly changed into dry robes and went to see Ron and Hermione.

When the Mermaid swung her portrait open, Harry and Ginny stepped inside. Hermione was reading a book, and Ron was staring at the fire looking tired. He looked up when he heard them and smiled a bit.

“How was it?” Ron asked.

“Fun! We got caught in the rain, though,” said Ginny as she flopped into the nearest armchair. “Did you guys have fun?”

Ron shrugged. “Yeah, I guess, if you call book shopping fun.” He shot a glare at Hermione who didn’t even look up from her book. “I really wanted to go to that new Quidditch store. Did you guys get a chance to go?”

“Yeah, but it was pointless. It was packed full of people. We couldn’t even move.” Harry said, and Ron shrugged.

“I’m starved. Let’s go down to dinner, Ron said.

While they were walking down to dinner, Ron and Harry lagged behind the girls. “So?” asked Ron when they were far enough behind not to be heard.

“So what?”

“So how was it?”

“It was fun. We talked a lot. Madame Pudifoot’s was quite boring, I’ll admit. Way too lovey dovey for me, but I think I’ll take Hermione there too. No one noticed us.”

“Good,” said Ron as they entered the Great Hall.

this next chapter's kinda short...shorter than the last one anyways...and a little bit random, but it needs to be there, in my opinion, to make everything work. plus, you can't really have a harry potter story without quidditch, now can you?

Chapter Three: Quidditch

“Alright, chasers and Ron mount your brooms!” called Harry to his quidditch team. It was October 13th, the day before the next Hogsmead visit and Harry had yet to ask Hermione. He didn’t know how he was going to ask her without Ginny knowing. Due to this problem, he was in a really sour mood. It didn’t help that outside it was freezing, windy, and pelting rain.

“We’re going to drill Ron now, and that’ll give you chasers a chance to work on your shots,” he yelled up to Ginny, Demelza, and Dean, the Gryffindor team chasers. He threw the quaffel up to Dean who caught it and passed to Ginny, who then scored on Ron. It should have been an easy save too. Harry groaned.

This went on for about another hour, with the beaters, Jimmy Peakes and Ritchie Coote, hitting bludgers towards the chasers to try and stop them from scoring. Harry was standing on the ground below them, watching. He watched as goal after goal were scored on Ron. He thought that after last year he might be better with his nerves, but apparantly he wasn’t. Ron had so far only saved one goal, and it had been one where just as Demelza was about to thow the quaffel, she got hit was a bludger, knocking her throw off course.

All of a sudden, if it was even possible, the rain came down harder, making it impossible to see. “Okay,” called Harry up to them, but he wasn’t sure that they could hear him. “Stop. Stop! STOP!”

Ginny, it seemed, was the only one who had heard him, she stopped her broom, hovering in the air, when all of a sudden, a bludger hit by Jimmy smashed into her head. Ginny slipped off of her broom, not able to hold on, and tumbled to the ground. Her abandoned broom flew into Dean and he caught it.

Harry, upon seeing this, rushed towards her, thanking god that she hadn’t been too high up in the air. Ron landed beside him, Jimmy on the other side. A few seconds later, the rest of the team was crowded around.

Jimmy was biting his nails nervously. “I’m sorry! I couldn’t see anything! I didn’t even know she was there!” he cried.

“It’s alright, Jimmy. I think she’ll be fine. She’s just knocked out. Ron, help me get her up to Madame Pomfrey. Practice is over,” said Harry sternly. He and Ron lifted Ginny up and carried her to the hospital wing.

When they got there, Madame Pomfrey rushed over immediately and asked what had happened. Harry explained in a calm voice, and they brought Ginny over to an empty bed. Madame Pomfrey hustled about, fixing potions and performing charms until she came to a conclusion.

“She should be fine,” concluded the mediwitch. “It’s probably a good idea that I still check with the healers at St. Mungo’s though. And she’ll need to stay here for a few days at least.”

“Okay,” said both boys together. Since there was nothing else they could do, they turned to leave to go back and change out of their wet and muddy Quidditch robes.

“Well, that solves you’re problem, then,” said Ron as they left the hospital wing.

“My problem?”

“Yeah. Now you can just ask Hermione to go to Hogsmead with you and you won’t have to worry about Ginny.”

“Right! Great. Well, it’s really not good, since Ginny’s hurt, but-”

“I know what you mean, mate,” said Ron, laughing a little. They went to get changed, each to his own dorm, and then Harry went in search for Hermione.

After finding out from Ron that she wasn’t in the heads’ common room, he decided to look in the library, Hermione’s favourite place. Sure enough, there she was, sitting on her usual couch in a corner, engrossed in a heavy-looking book. Her long, bushy brown hair fell into her face and she pushed it back behind her ear. Oh, how he longed to run his fingers through that hair.

“Hey,” said Harry, sitting beside her.

“Hi, Harry. How was practice?” she asked cheerfully.

“It was terrible. Ron saved one goal and Ginny got hurt. She’s going to be in the hospital wing for a few days.”

“Oh, that’s horrible! She’ll miss the Hogsmead trip tomorrow!’

“Yeah, about that. Hermione, I was wondering if you wanted to go with me. Just you and me…you know?”

Hermione smiled. Even though she had a hunch that Ginny had a “thing” for Harry, she just couldn’t say no. After all, it was every woman for herself, wasn’t it? “I’d love that Harry! But…what about Ron?”

“He can go with Neville, Seamus, and Dean,” Harry shrugged. “Only, please don’t tell Ginny about this. Demelza Robins mentioned to me that she might have a crush on me. I don’t want her feelings to be hurt.”

“Okay,” said Hermione, a little bit suspiciously.

“ ‘Kay, well, I’ll let you get back to your book then,” said Harry, and he got up and left to find Ron.

Everything was going according to plan.

Chapter Four: A Date With Hermione

The morning of her Hogsmead date with Harry, Hermione fretted over what she should wear. She didn’t have anything remotely as nice as Ginny did since she wasn’t a big fashion fan. She would have to remember to go shopping with Ginny sometime and get some cute clothes for occasions such as this.

Hermione pulled out a lacy blue tank top she was sure was Ginny’s and put her black v-neck sweater over it. That and jeans would have to do. She grabbed her jacket and went to meet Harry out on the grounds.

As she left her room, Ron entered their common room. She smiled and said, “Forget something?”

“Yeah, my jacket. It’s pretty cold out there,” he laughed. He wished it was him going with Hermione instead of Harry, even though he knew she would bore him to death in the bookshops. He really didn’t mind though…

“…Well, I guess I’ll see you later then,” said Hermione a little sadly. She sort of wished it had been Ron who had asked her. True, she had gone with him last time, but that was only because during the summer, Ginny had asked her to leave her and Harry to go off together one Hogsmead trip, and so that’s what she had done. Oh, what was she doing? She knew Ginny liked Harry…but then so did she…god, love was so confusing.

She had reached Harry by now. They smiled at each other and set off down the road towards Hogsmead.

“Harry would you mind if we stopped in the bookshop? I have a book on order and I want to see if it’s come in yet,” Hermione said, shivering.

“ ‘Course not,” said Harry, just glad to be with her.

They walked in somewhat awkward silence the rest of the way to the bookshop, where they went in. Harry sat down on a large, squishy chair and waited an hour and a half while Hermione looked through books. She ended up buy three and getting the one she had on order.

“I can’t wait to read these books,” Hermione gushed as she and Harry left the bookshop. “Where to now, Harry?”

“I was thinking we could go to this little tea shop…their tea is quite good,” said Harry, referring to Madame Pudifoot’s.

“And tea will be good on a day like today,” finished Hermione.

The reached Madame Pudifoot’s just as the wind started to pick up. Shivering, they picked a table — the same table Harry and Ginny had sat at no less — and waited. The same waitress came to take their orders. She glanced at Harry, noticing his scar, then left to get their drinks.

“So, I never asked you what books you got,” said Harry as they waited for their tea.

Hermione was looking around at all of the other couples that were mostly snogging. She blushed a bit and said, “Oh! Two of them were muggle books…they can get muggle books there, you know? It’s really quite amazing. Anyways, I got Charlotte’s Web, that’s always been one of my favourites, and Pride and Prejudice, my mum suggested I read that. I also got The Autobiography of Janette Flabberstone, she’s my favourite singer. You know, she was on the cover of Witch Weekly two weeks ago? She’s absolutely brilliant. Oh, and I also got the newest edition of Hogwarts, A History. That’s the book I ordered.”

Harry just smiled, unable to think of anything to say. He wasn’t much of a reader, and he had only briefly heard of Janette Flabberstone. What he knew of her was that she wrote love songs that were popular among the witches.

Just as Hermione was about to say something, the waitress appeared and gave them their tea. She looked at Harry and, smacking her gum, said, “Didn’t I see you here a few weeks ago? With another girl?” chew chew.

“No,” Harry said nervously. “You must have mistaken me with someone else.”

The waitress shrugged, flung her perfectly curled blonde hair over her shoulder and walked away.

After that brief interruption, Hermione talked non-stop about books until they reached the heads’ common room back at Hogwarts where she had to stop to say the password. The mermaid swung open revealing the common room.

Hermione sighed. “I’m going to go take a bath now. I can barely move my fingers they’re so cold!” Harry laughed at this. “Thanks for today, Harry, I really had a lot of fun.”

“Me too,” said Harry smiling. As Hermione walked into her room, Harry walked into Ron’s. Ron was lying down on his bed, staring at the ceiling as he often did. He looked over when Harry walked in.

“So? How was it?” Ron asked, grinning.

“She talked about books the whole time!” Harry groaned, collapsing on the bed.

Ron sat up. “I told you she would!”

“Yeah, but I suppose it was my fault. I was the one who brought up the topic.”

“So, which one was better? Your date with Ginny, or your date with Hermione?”

A/N: IMPORTANT!! From now on, you choose which story you want to read. Whether you ship Harry/Ginny or Harry/Hermione is up to you. Please note that Harry/Ginny will be written in BLUE and Harry/Hermione will be written in GREEN. I think that should be easy enough to remember. Please, also review! I love getting reviews, as long as it’s nothing too mean…constructive criticism is fine, but mean reviews really don’t need to be posted. If you don’t like the story, then don’t read it. Remember, the more reviews I get the faster I post the next chapter...except this once. The next chapter won't be up until Tuesday night, since I wont have access to a computer.

Finally, the 1st choose your own!

Chapter Five (Part One: Harry/Ginny): I Choose...

“Ginny,” Harry said, sure of himself, “Definitely Ginny. We have a lot more in common, and I think me and Hermione are probably better off just being friends.”

A sudden wave of relief rushed over Ron as he smiled. “Ha. I’m glad you chose her. I like you much better than Dean.”

“Glad to hear it. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to go see her in the Hospital Wing.”

“Good luck, mate!” Ron called as Harry ran off.

***

Harry quietly entered the Hospital Wing. It was getting dark outside. He had better hurry before it was curfew and the wing was closed for the night. He spotted Ginny in a different bed than yesterday when he was there. He walked over to her. She was sleeping peacefully, a tiny smile on her face. Seeing her so peaceful made him forget all of the bad things happening in the world at that moment. Harry pulled over a chair and sat down in it beside her bed. For a while, he just watched her sleep; then he decided to say something.

“God, Ginny. I never noticed how beautiful you really were,” he murmured.

“How can you say I’m beautiful? My face is all bruised,” came the soft reply.

“You will always be beautiful to me, Ginny Weasley,” Harry said. Ginny noted the amount of truth that seemed to be in his voice when he said that.

She turned her head towards him and opened her eyes. His hand found hers, and they just stayed that way for a while, neither saying anything.

“You know,” said Harry quietly, breaking the silence, “I was so scared when you got hurt yesterday. I was so afraid that I’d never get the chance to tell you how I really feel about you.”

“Oh? And how do you feel about me?”

“I am madly in love with you,” Harry said, grinning.

“Well, luck just happens to be on your side today, because I happen to be madly in love with you too. And I’m not going anywhere,” said Ginny, her smile even wider than Harry’s…if that was even possible.

***

Meanwhile, in the heads’ common room, Hermione sat on the squishy couch infront of the fire, one of her new books propped open on her lap. Today had been fun for her, but she wasn’t sure that Harry had had as good a time and she. Her feelings were confused. She loved Harry, but it was more of a sisterly love towards him. Ron on the other hand…well, lets just say that that her love towards him wasn’t sisterly. Speak of the devil…

“Hey Hermione, how was Hogsmead?” Ron asked as he stepped through the portrait hole.

“Oh, it was fine, I suppose,” she replied, her eyes never leaving her book.

“Only fine?”

“Yeah,” she sighed. “I mean, I just don’t really feel that way about Harry. I know he asked me and everything, so that must mean he has some sort of feelings for me, but to be honest, I just love him as a brother. Nothing more than that. I really shouldn’t have said yes.”

“Well, I don’t think his feelings will be hurt,” Ron said with a slight chuckle. “He’s in the Hospital Wing now with Ginny…who knows what could turn out from that.”

“Oh, I do hope they get together. I know how much Ginny likes him. Which is another reason I shouldn’t have said yes.” Hermione mumbled the last part under her breath.

“Yeah, it would be nice. Anyways, Hermione, Halloween is fast approaching, and I think we should do something special.”

Hermione shut her book. “I was thinking the same thing! We should have a costume ball or something…where everyone gets dressed up. We could book a band and everything. It would really be fun.”

“Great idea. We’ll get the okay from Dumbledore on the way back from dinner. Which I want to leave right now for, because I’m starved.”

And with that, the Head Boy and Girl made their way down to the Great Hall, oblivious to what was going on it the Hospital Wing.

***

Harry leaned in close. This was it…the moment he’d been waiting for for years, even if he hadn’t known it. He closed his eyes. He was so close now…

“Mr. Potter! It is after hours! Miss Weasley needs her rest, you’ll have to come back in the morning!” came the shrill voice of Madame Pomfrey.

Harry sighed and got up, gave a little shrug to Ginny as if to say, What can I do?, and then left the Hospital Wing.

He didn’t stop smiling until he got back to his common room.

Chapter Five (Part Two: Harry/Hermione): I Choose...

“I think…Hermione,” said Harry slowly.

“Are you sure? Not Ginny?”

“No. Even though Ginny and me do have more things in common. I guess…I don’t know really. Hermione’s smartness is really…hot,” said Harry, his face turning red.

Ron snorted. “Okay, mate, whatever you say. Wait for her here. I’m going to go get some dinner. I’m starved. You want anything?”

Harry shook his head. Ron shrugged and left the common room, leaving Harry alone to ponder his thoughts.

Am I really doing this? Choosing Hermione over Ginny? Won’t Ginny be…crushed…to put it lightly? I always thought she liked me. I always thought I’d end up with her too, since I always thought Ron and Hermione would get together. I guess not though. I mean, whenever I picture my future, it’s always Hermione there, right beside me, and Ginny somewhere off to the side. I guess—

“Harry? What are you still doing here? I thought you and Ron would’ve gone down for dinner by now,” said Hermione. She closed the door to her room and walked the length of the floor over to the couch where Harry sat. She sat down beside him.

“Ron’s already left. I was waiting for you. I have to tell you something.”

“Okay…” said Hermione slowly. “Tell me.”

“Well, Hermione, it’s sort of like this. We’ve been really close friends for a while now, six years to be exact, and over the last year, my feelings for you have…developed.” He was trying to make this sound intelligent and romantic, really he was, but it didn’t really come out sounding like it had in his head. He watched Hermione’s look change from that of question to that of almost sheer happiness. “Oh god. This sounded a lot better in my head. Well, what I’m really trying to say, Hermione, is that I love you.”

***

Dean Thomas slipped away from the Gryffindor table. He was going to make his move now. He ran two stairs at a time up to the Hospital Wing before quietly opening the door, making sure that Madame Pomfrey wasn’t there, and then tip-toeing towards Ginny’s bed. Lucky for him, she was awake.

“Hey,” she smiled as he drew nearer.

He smiled back. “Hey. Listen Ginny. I think we need to talk.”

“Talk? About what?”

“Us. After last year. After breaking up. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking over the summer, and I wanted to let you know that I still love you, and I shouldn’t have treated you the way I did. I’m sorry,” he said somewhat sheepishly.

“Really, Dean? You still love me?”

“ ‘Course I do. Wouldn’t be saying it if I didn’t,” he said logically, taking her hand in his.

“I think we need to take it slow first, though. I mean, after you treated me last year…I just really don’t want that to happen again.” She said, looking him straight in the eye, never breaking contact. She wanted him to know that she wanted them to get back together, but she had to be cautious.

“I agree one hundred percent. How about we start fresh? With a date to Hogsmead the next time we go?”

“Sounds good to me,” Ginny smiled.

Dean smiled too. “Goodnight, Ginny,” he said, kissing her on the cheek.

***

Hermione’s lips twitched into a smile. “Really?” she whispered.

“Really.”

Hermione flung her arms around Harry’s neck, pulling him into a hug. “I love you too, Harry Potter!”

Harry loosened her hold on him and looked her in the eyes. They seemed to be begging him, so he leaned in closer, closing his eyes as he did, and pressed his lips against hers.

It was a thousand and one times better than his kiss with Cho Chang. First of all, it wasn’t wet, and second, it was with a girl he really and truly loved.

This is really just a chapter that ties to the next one...it's pretty much just drabble. And it's very long. It's not very important...just...fun. and it leads up to the next two or three Harry/Ginny chapters.

Chapter Six (Part One: Harry/Ginny): Costume Shopping

Attention Students Fourth Year and Up:
You Are Invited to the First Ever in 21 Years
HALLOWEEN BALL

Costumes are a MUST

Date: October 31st, Halloween
Time: 7:30 pm
Place: The Great Hall

-The Head Boy and Girl, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger

Three days after Harry had told Ginny he loved her, there was a buzz about the school. It, of course, was about nothing other than the Halloween Ball. Excitement filled the cool autumn air as costumes were discussed and people paired off. Another Hogsmead trip had been scheduled for the coming Friday. Classes would be cancelled so that the students fourth year and up might have a chance to find their costumes.

It just so happened that Ginny would be getting out of the Hospital Wing that Friday. She new all about the ball from what Ron, Hermione, and (mostly) Harry had told her. After Ron ad Hermione had said goodnight to her, Harry had followed by asking her to the dance. Ginny, of course, had said yes.

She was off-the-wall excited for it. The only other ball she had ever been to was the Yule Ball, and that had been different. She had only gone because Neville Longbottom had asked her. This time though, she would be going with Harry, which would make it ten times better.

Ginny and Hermione had decided to go to Hogsmead together to get their costumes, and, after much force, Ron and Harry had agreed to get their costumes themselves. Ginny said they ought to surprise each other.

The morning of the Friday was a warm one, considering it was October. Ginny met up with Hermione before breakfast had really ended, and they set off to Hogsmead, following a bunch of other girls who wanted to get a head start on their costume shopping. A lot of the boys didn’t really care.

“So, Hermione,” Ginny said casually, “Has Ron asked you yet?”

Hermione sighed. “No, not yet. I really hope he does, though. It would be nice to go to this ball with someone I actually like this time. I mean, Viktor was fun, but…” she trailed off.

Ginny nodded, and understood what she meant. Going with Neville to the Yule Ball had been a lot of fun, but she was really looking forward to going with Harry. She knew she’d have a better time with him.

The girls walked down a street they hadn’t been down much before. It didn’t have any of their favourite shops, so they had never had any real reason to go. There were, they noticed, many clothing stores down this street, all filled with costumes in the spirit of Halloween.

“Ooh, let’s go in here!” Ginny said. She had pressed her nose against the glass of the display window of Celesta’s Costumes. The costumes in the window were beautiful. The girls entered the empty shop. “Wow,” Ginny sighed as she gazed at all of the costumes and beautiful dresses. “There’s so many choices! I don’t even have any idea what I want to be yet!”

Hermione fingered the hem of a short baby-blue dress. “Why not just be a princess or something? You’d like that, I’m sure. Harry could be you’re Prince Charming!” she giggled.

“That’s pretty. Were you thinking of trying it on?” Ginny eyed the dress Hermione had now pulled off of the rack.

“Not for me. For you.” She handed it over.

Hearing voices downstairs, a young lady appeared from the staircase at the back. “Would one of you ladies like a fitting room?” she asked smiling.

“Me, please,” said Ginny, smiling back. They followed the lady who appeared to be Celesta to the back of the shop where she opened a fitting room for Ginny. Celesta waited with Hermione while Ginny put the dress on.

“You must be Celesta,” Hermione said to her as they waited for Ginny.

“That I am. Are you girls from Hogwarts?”

“We are. We’re having a Halloween Ball, and we’re shopping for our costumes.” Hermione said, trying to picture where she had seen Celesta before.

“I figured something like that. Did you find anything you might like to try on?” asked Celesta hopefully.

“I hadn’t really had a chance to look,” admitted Hermione. Just then, Ginny came out of the dressing room. “Oh Ginny!” gasped Hermione. Ginny was a vision in blue. The dress was v-necked, going down quite a far way, but not too far that it was inappropriate. There were gold bands that crisscross across the front and back of the top before the dress hung loosely to just above her knees. Ginny twirled, and the dress fanned out and swirled with her.

“It’s really pretty, isn’t it?” said Ginny.

“It’s gorgeous on you,” Celesta said smiling.

“It really is,” Hermione agreed.

Ginny sighed. “I absolutely love it, but there’s a few problems.”

“I can fix it, if there’s something wrong with the dress.”

“No, not really with the dress. It’s just…it’s a bit over my budget. 25 galleons is a bit much for me. I was hoping to find something a bit cheaper. And even if I did get it to wear, I don’t have any idea what I could be,” she admitted, looking down longingly at the dress.

“Well,” Celesta sighed.

“Would you put it on hold for me, Celesta?” asked Ginny. “I think I’d like to look around at some of the other shops before making my decision.”

“Of course,” Celesta said politely. Ginny took off the dress, handed it to her, and before leaving with Hermione, promised to come back to tell Celesta whether or not she’d be purchasing it.

Once out on the street again, Hermione turned to Ginny and said, “Did you recognise her from somewhere? I did…but I’m not sure where from…”

“Well, it doesn’t matter.” Ginny sighed. “That dress was so beautiful.”

***

Meanwhile, somewhere else in Hogsmead, Ron and Harry were having a tough time finding costumes.

“Maybe I’ll just go as a wizard,” said Harry dully as he browsed another rack of costumes.

“Don’t be so uncreative,” said Neville Longbottom who had tagged along with them. “Hey! What about this! You can go as Professor Dumbledore!” He held up a long midnight blue robe with a silver wig and matching beard and half-moon glasses.

“Right. I don’t really think Ginny would be too happy with me if I went as Dumbledore,” said Harry, and Ron and Neville sniggered.
“AHA!” Ron cried, pulling out a costume. “I’m going as a vampire! End of story!” he threw the costume to a salesgirl and she rang it up for him.

Harry sighed as he searched through more and more costumes. It would really help if he knew what he wanted to be.

“Why not go as a price or something like that?” Neville said, holding up another costume.

“Enh, I’m not really one to go as a prince,” Harry admitted. “You go as one, though, it suits you better anyways.”

Neville shrugged. “If you say so.” He walked away to pay for his costum.

“Hey, Harry, what about this one?” called Ron from across the shop.

“What is it?” Harry asked as he sauntered over to Ron.

“A pirate costume,” said Ron, reading the label. “Definitely suits you mate. Or, if you don’t like this idea you could always go as You-Know-Who…I’m sure he’d be flattered.”

“I’d rather be a pirate, thanks,” Harry paid for his costume and the three boys left the store.

A/N: This is the last part of the chapter...it was too long for me to post all at once! lol.

Again, enjoy!

-ewalklover

Ginny and Hermione walked around aimlessly for an hour. After that hour, Hermione found and fell in love with a simple, short white dress that she later paired with silver-white wings. She would go as a fairy. After that, another hour was spent roaming the streets, before both girls decided that they had to visit Celesta again so Ginny could purchase her dress. Hermione had offered to lend Ginny some extra money, and Ginny, thoroughly grateful, had accepted the offer.

“Hi Celesta,” Ginny called as they entered the shop for the second time that day.

“Hello girls,” Celesta said from behind a pile of dresses she was hanging up. “Have you decided on the dress, then?”

“Yes, and I think I’m going to buy it…only, I don’t know what I could be…”

“Well, it just so happens that I had to clean out the storage room and I came across a box full of left over costumes from last year. I had a look through it and I found these.” She held up a pair of shear pants, the same shade of blue as the dress. “I thought you could maybe go as a genie,” she said, looking hopeful.

“That’s a great idea!” said Hermione.

“You should still try the outfit on though, just to make sure it looks good.”

So that’s what Ginny did. While Hermione and Celesta were waiting for her, Hermione turned and asked the young witch, “ Excuse me, but did you happen to go to Hogwarts two years ago? I’m sorry, but you look familiar.”

Celesta giggled. “Actually, yes, I did. I was Head Girl too.”

“Right! Celesta Moran!” called Ginny from the dressing room, who had overheard the conversation.

“The one and only,” she smiled. “I was in Hufflepuff, so you probably didn’t know me that well.”

“Right. We’re in Gryffindor,” said Hermione.

“I know. You’re friends with Harry Potter.” She giggled again.

“How do I look?” asked Ginny, stepping out of the fitting room. The pants flared out more at the bottom than at the top, but overall they were still loose. Tight gold cuffs at the bottom secured them just above her ankles.

“Hm…” Celesta looked Ginny up and down. “Come,” she said, and Ginny and Hermione followed to the middle of shop where a circular platform sat. “Stand up here, I want to make a few adjustments.”

Ginny did what she was told, and stood up on the platform. Celesta muttered a few words, and with the wave of her wand, the dress became shorter, stopping at the top of her thigh. Then the top of it became tighter, showing off more of Ginny’s form. The bottom remained loose though. Celesta flicked her wand again, and shear blue sleaves appeared, just the like pants she was wearing. They stopped just above her elbow, where gold cuffs secured them in place. With one last flick of her wand, Celesta made blue sandals with gold beading appear on Ginny’s feet.

“There. Much better I think,” said Celesta. She turned to Hermione. “What do you think?”

“Amazing. Ginny, you look beautiful. Harry wont be able to take his eyes off of you.”

Ginny grinned and twirled.

“Oh,” said Celesta with slight amusement, “You’re Harry’s date, are you?”

Ginny smiled broadly and nodded her head. Celesta laughed. “Come on, get changed and I’ll ring that up for you. Discount of course, and the pants and shoes are free.”

The girls left the shop waving to Celesta and promising to visit the next time they needed something for a ball or party. The day was coming to a close, and Hermione and Ginny headed back up to the castle. On the way they chatted about costumes and about what they boys might have gotten, and of course about Celesta. They liked their new friend very much.

Chapter Six (Part Two: Harry/Hermione): Pairing Off

Ron walked aimlessly around outside the castle. Harry and Hermione had been going out for about a week now, and they were inseparable, both in their own little world together. Ron had mostly been like a third wheel, even when he went to visit Ginny in the Hospital Wing, because Dean was always there. He was sad. He desperately wanted someone else to spend time with.

He sat down underneath the willow tree that he, Harry, and Hermione often sat under when the weather was nice, doing their homework. He stared out at the lake. Maybe he could have the Giant Squid for company. Oh, now he was just being stupid. Even the Giant Squid probably had a girlfriend.

“Hello, Ron,” said a quiet voice from beside him. Ron looked up into the pleasant face of Luna Lovegood.

“Oh, hello, Luna,” he said, smiling. He loved Luna. She was so funny, especially with her Quidditch commentary.

“Mind if I join you?” she asked. He shook his head and she sat down beside him. “So, Harry and Hermione, eh? Never really saw that coming. Personally, I always thought it would be you and Hermione. But, I guess I was wrong.”

“Yeah,” Ron said. “Noticed how everyone seems to have paired off then?” Luna nodded. “Figures. Seventh year and all…it’s to be expected I guess.” Luna just sat there, for once not saying anything. Ron thought he noticed a little bit of pity in her eyes. He decided to change the subject. “So, Luna, thinking of doing the Quidditch commentary this year?”

“Oh yes! Last year was so much fun! I really enjoy it. Daddy says I have a knack for things like that,” she said.

“Good. You were the best commentator last year. Much better than everyone else.”

Luna chuckled. They continued talking until Ron got hungry and they decided to go to dinner.

***

After dinner, Harry and Hermione proceeded, hand in hand, to the heads’ common room. Once there, they flopped down on the couch, Hermione in Harry’s lap.

“So,” said Hermione, her arms wrapped around Harry’s neck, playing with his messy black hair, “I was thinking Ron and I should plan something for Halloween. Do you have anything in mind?”

“I have something in mind, but it has nothing to do with Halloween,” said Harry.

“Oh?” asked Hermione, raising an eyebrow.

“I believe we have some unfinished business to attend to, and I think we should attend to in right now.”

“Do you now?” Hermione whispered, bringing her face closer to Harry’s. Their lips met, and Harry’s arms moved from her legs to around her waist. He licked her lips, begging for an entrance. Hermione gave in, and let her lips part. Just as Harry was about to deepen the kiss, the portrait banged open, startling the couple. They looked up to see Ron.

“Oi! Lovebirds! Get a room will you?” he said, a smile playing at his lips. Harry and Hermione blushed slightly. They would have to until tomorrow to finish that unfinished business.

***

The next day, Hermione unlocked her lips from Harry’s for a few minutes to catch up with Ginny, who was just out of the Hospital Wing. They had an hour before dinner, and Hermione wanted to do some girl talking. Ginny agreed, and they walked to Hermione’s dorm. Once there, they sat down on the bed, facing each other.

“So?” asked Ginny, grinning and cocking an eyebrow. “How are things with Harry?”

“Amazing. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better boyfriend. And how are things with Dean?”

“Slow, but good. I really like him, Hermione. Probably more than he likes me.”

“I don’t think so,” Hermione smiled, “I’ve seen the way he looks at you. Like there’s no other girl for him.”

“Well, good. ‘Cause there shouldn’t be.” Hermione and Ginny laughed.

“Anyways, Ginny, I really wanted to ask your opinion. Ron and I have been thinking…” she trailed off as Ginny gave her a look that said, Don’t try and tell me you’ve been alone with Ron for five seconds. “Well, okay, so mostly just me thinking. But what I was thinking about was what we should do for Halloween. I mean, it’s only like, a week and a half away or so…if we’re going to do something, we’d better plan it soon.”

“You’re right. You should definitely do something. But what to do, is the question…” Ginny thought for a moment. “How about…no…that’s not good. What have past Head Boys and Girls done?”

“Nothing, really, while we’ve been here. They never really put much thought into it. I suppose we could just have a regular Halloween feast like usual…it’s pretty late to plan anything anyways,” Hermione sighed.

“No it’s not, Hermione! It’s never too late! And in fact, I have the perfect idea for you. Have you noticed that a lot of the sixth and seventh years have been pairing off? Well, why not hold a party, sort of like a mixer for the sixth and seventh years. There could be music and butterbeer and candy, of course…I think it would be fun!”

“That’s actually not such a bad idea…” said Hermione, the wheels already turning in her head.

“Great. Glad you like it. Now, let’s go down for dinner. I’m starved!”

“I swear, Ron’s had a bad influence on you, Ginny,” said Hermione, and both girls laughed their way to the Great Hall.

***

In two days time, two new notices appeared on the notice boards in each common room over night. In the morning, students would be jumping up and down in excitement over the announcements.

“A party? Just for sixth and seventh years? Awesome!” whispered a sixth year Hufflepuff to her friend.

“We are totally going to kick Gryffindor’s butts in the Quidditch match in two weeks,” said Draco Malfoy to his fellow Slytherin teammates.

“I wish I was a sixth or seventh year,” sighed a small first year girl in Gryffindor. “Or atleast that I could play Quidditch.”

“Hey, Luna! You’re going to be commentator at the first Quidditch match in two weeks!” Ron called to her before lunch.

“I know! It’s exciting isn’t it? Gryffindor versus Slytherin games are always the best,” she said. She flicked her long blonde hair over her shoulder. “Great idea about the party, by the way. Sounds like it’ll be fun.”

“It was all Ginny’s idea, really,” Ron said, blushing a little. He and Luna had been spending a lot of time together over the past few days.

“Well, tell her it was a great one for me. I’ve got to go and speak to Professor Flitwick…I’ll see you later!” she called as she ran off to the Charms classroom.

Ron watched her go. Maybe, just maybe….

***

Harry pushed Hermione down onto her bed, his hands running down her body to her waist. She entwined her fingers in his messy black hair as she had done so many times before and deepened their kiss. Harry started to slide her robe off of her shoulders, touching the bare skin of her arms.

“Harry,” Hermione gasped, unlocking her lips from him. “I think we’re going a bit too fast.”

“Agreed,” Harry sighed, rolling off of her. They lay on the bed for a minute, before turning their heads to look at each other. Harry grinned. Hermione grinned back. She rolled over quickly so that she was on top of Harry and attached her lips to his again. It just felt right.

Chapter Seven (Part One: Harry/Ginny): Pairing Off

The Halloween Ball was just two days away. Everyone had their costumes, and most people were finding last-minute dates. Ron and Hermione sat in their common room during their free period, finishing up the final changes to the decorations. Both of them still had no date.

Hermione mumbled something about tables and chairs under her breath, and Ron looked up from where he was making a list of food to glance at her. This would probably be one of his last chances, so it was now or never.

“Er, Hermione?”

Hermione looked up. “Yes?”

“Um, I was, um, just wondering if you had a date for the ball yet?” Ron asked, fiddling with his quill nervously.

Hermione held back a smile. “No, no one’s asked me yet, how about you?” She knew what his answer would be.

“Nope, haven’t asked anyone.”

Hermione shrugged, and, seeing that he wasn’t going to say any more, turned back to her paper.

There was a moment of silence before Ron spoke again. “Um, Hermione, since this ball is being planned by us, and we’re head boy and girl, I think it might be a good idea if we went together…you know, to set a good example.”

Hermione raised her eyebrow. “Alright, if you say so,” she said, and turned back to her paper again, grinning.

***

Ginny sat in her favourite chair in the Gryffindor common room. It was her free period, and Harry wasn’t there, so she was using the time to catch up on her homework which had fell behind a little since she and Harry had started going out. She didn’t notice one of her sixth year friends come up behind her.

“Ginny?”

Ginny jumped and turned around. “Gosh, Nathan! You scared me!”

“Sorry,” Nathan chuckled, sitting on the arm rest of her chair.

“Yeah yeah. What’s up?”

“Don’t have a date yet for the Halloween Ball. I think everyone else does, though, so there’s no one to ask.” He sighed sadly.

“What about Cassidy?” Ginny asked, referring to her best friend in sixth year. “I know she doesn’t have a date and I know for a fact that she would love to go with you.”

“Really? I think I’ll ask her then. Thanks, Gin, you’re a lifesaver.” Nathan got up and left the common room to look for Cassidy.

Ginny smiled, priding herself on her amazing matchmaking skills.

***

Neville Longbottom cleared his throat, trying to build up enough courage. She was sitting under his favourite tree out on the grounds, and this was his best chance to ask her. He walked over to her. “Hey, mind if I join you here?”

Luna Lovegood smiled up at him. “Of course, Neville,” she said.

“So, um, you have a date yet for the ball?” Neville asked shyly.

“No. No one wants to go with Loony Lovegood.” Luna sighed and played with one of her radish earrings.

“I do,” said Neville, his voice so quiet it was almost a whisper.

“Do you? Because I would really love to go with you, Neville,” Luna said, taking one of his hands in hers.

Neville nodded. “Great,” said Luna, smiling again. “I was just about to go see if there was any extra pudding in the kitchens, would you like to come along?”

“Sure,” said Neville, and they got up and left to go to the kitchens.

***

Harry walked down the hall to the Gryffindor common room alone. Ron and Hermione had gone off, claiming that they had stuff to finish for the ball. He and Ginny both had a free period right now, and they were planning on spending some time together.

When he entered the common room, Ginny was lying across the couch, having just moved there from her chair (she had two free periods in a row). The common room was mostly empty, except for a few couples here and there talking in hushed tones so as not to be overheard.

Harry crossed the room to Ginny, and kissed her on the head. She smiled and looked up at him. “Hey,” she laughed. She sat up so that Harry could sit beside her.

He smiled and took a seat, wrapping his arms around her. Ginny giggled and kissed him on the lips. Harry broke the kiss after a few minutes. “Let’s go up to my dorm,” he whispered.

Once in Harry’s dorm, they lay down on his bed and continued making out. Ginny kicked off her shoes and they landed on the floor.

After a while, the two of them just lay there for a while, Ginny in Harry’s arms. “I love you,” she whispered, and was delighted when he whispered, I love you too, back to her. She snuggled into his chest. After a minute, Ginny picked up Harry’s arm and looked at the watch on his wrist. “Oh, jeeze, we have ten minutes to get to class,” she said. She jumped off the bed, grabbing her robe and putting it back on. Harry did the same thing. Then Ginny grabbed her left shoe, the one she could actually see, and put in on. Having a hunch, Ginny got down on her knees and looked under Harry’s bed. Sure enough, there was her shoe…as well as…

“What’s this?” Ginny asked pulling out the brown paper bag that held Harry’s pirate costume for the Halloween Ball.

“Nothing!” Harry ran around from the other side of the bed and grabbed the bag from her.

“Aw, common, let me see!” Ginny jumped for the bag which Harry was now holding high above his head.

“No!” Harry yelled, laughing.

“Pleeeeeeeeeease!!” Ginny whined.

“You can’t see it…but I guess I can tell you what it is. It’s my costume for the ball.”

“Fine, I guess it can be a surprise,” Ginny said, in mock disappointment. “But now I’m mad at you.”

“Would a kiss make it better?”

“Make it two and we have a deal.”

Chapter Seven (Part Two: Harry/Hermione): Absolutely

Halloween dawned on Hogwarts, and before anyone realised, they were finishing up their last classes and getting ready for the Halloween feast. Harry and Hermione walked down the hallway to the Great Hall, hand in hand, as usual.

When they entered the Great Hall they sat down at the Gryffindor table, across from Ron and Luna, who had been sitting there for a few meals. Nobody really minded, and she was happy because she had friends.

“Hey guys,” Harry said.

“Hey,” Ron managed to say through mouthfuls of food. Hermione looked at him disgustedly. Luna snorted at Hermione’s face. Ron looked at her, and they both started to laugh. Harry and Hermione exchanged confused glances, and started eating.

Just as Ron and Luna had settled down and continued eating again, Ginny showed up with Dean in tow.

“Hey!” Ginny greeted them, taking a seat next to Hermione. “Everything all set?” She whispered to her, and Hermione nodded.

Ginny, of course, was talking about the Halloween party for the sixth and seventh years that would be going on after this. Hermione had spent all afternoon setting up, and it was sure to be fun.

The feast finished, and while the fifth year and younger students went back to their common rooms, the sixths and seventh years headed into a large classroom.

The classroom had been turned into something that looked like a lounge. There were no desks or chairs or chalkboards. Instead there were couches and tables with butterbeer and candy. The lights were dimmed, and music from the WWN played in the background.

The students entered the room and immediately broke off into groups of people. They grabbed couches and food, and some even danced.

Harry and Hermione found a couch in the corner, claimed it theirs, and started snogging. Ginny and Dean went over to a group of Ginny’s friends and started talking with them. Ron and Luna sat down on an empty couch at the opposite end of the room from Harry and Hermione.

Ron looked at them disgusted.

Luna, noticing this, quietly said, “You used to fancy her, didn’t you?”

Ron just shrugged. “Yes and no, I guess. As soon as I found out Harry liked her, I knew there’d never be a chance for me. Anyone would pick The Boy Who Lived over is stupid friend any day.”

“I wouldn’t,” Luna whispered.

***

Hermione ran her hands through Harry’s messy black hair. His lips were gentle on hers, and she could tell he was elsewhere. She pulled away. “Harry?” she asked. “What’s wrong?”

Harry, surprised by this question, said, “Nothing,” and reattached his lips to hers. A minute later her broke away again. “Do you want to go somewhere else? Somewhere more…private?”

Hermione grinned. “Okay,” she whispered. Harry pulled her up from the couch and they left the room.

***

“So really,” said Luna after taking a sip of butterbeer, “what’s the problem?”

“Problem? There’s no problem,” Ron lied.

Luna rolled her eyes. “Ron, I know you well enough by now to know that there is a problem. What is it?”

Ron sighed. “Fine. It’s just…oh never mind it’s stupid.”

“It can’t be that stupid if it’s bugging you this much.”

Ron glared at her before sighing again and saying, “Okay. Fine. It’s just that…ever since Harry and Hermione have started going out, I’ve barely seen or talked to them besides from classes, but even then they’re in their own little world. I’d just like to have my best friends back, that’s all.”

Luna nodded. “That’s perfectly understandable. Would you like me to talk to them or something?”

To her surprise, Ron nodded. “Yeah. That would be really great.”

“Okay,” Luna’s smile turned into a yawn. “I’m tired. I think I’ll leave and go back to my dorm…it’ll be nice and quiet for me to sleep with everyone else down here.”

“Okay, goodnight,” Ron said.

“Goodnight Ron,” Luna said. And then she kissed him on the cheek and danced out of the room.

Ron touched the spot where her lips had touched his skin and smiled slightly. Five minutes later, he got up and left too.

***

Hermione pulled Harry inside her dorm and shut the door behind them. The lights still off, they made their way to her bed. Hermione took a deep breath, wrapped her arm around Harry’s neck and kissed him. He kissed her back, moving so that they were kneeling on the bed.

Hermione’s hands were slightly shaky as she unlocked her arms from around his neck. She slid her fingers down his shoulders and pulled off his robe. Then her hands found his tie, and she slipped it over his head, unlocking her lips from his for only a second. Then her shaky fingers found the buttons on his shirt. She fumbled with them as she tried to undo them.

Harry brought his lips to her collar bone and reached his hands around her to take off her robe. He heard her sigh as he trailed a line of kisses up her neck to the corner of her mouth before kissing her lips again. He pushed her back on the bed, sliding his hands a little ways up her shirt. She smoothed her hands over his chest under his now unbuttoned shirt. They rolled over so that Hermione could be on top.

***

Ron entered the heads’ common room. As he walked quietly across the floor, he heard Hermione giggle from her room. He glanced at her door, then shook his head and entered his own room. He lay down on his bed, still fully dressed, and, with thoughts of Luna running through is head, drifted of to a deep sleep.

***

The next day, November the first, was a Thursday, and, as a treat to all students, classes were cancelled for the next two days. Everyone, especially the sixth and seventh years, were overjoyed by this fact.

Harry spent all day sprawled out on Hermione’s bed asleep. Someone had spiked the butterbeer last night, and they both had huge headaches. Hermione had gotten up and gotten some food from the kitchens for them, and on her way back, she ran into Luna.

“Hermione!” called Luna as she ran to catch up to her.

“Oh,” Hermione turned around and waited for the girl to catch up before she said anything else. “Hey, Luna, what’s up?” she said groggily.

“Oh nothing, just wanted to talk to you about something. Are you okay?” she asked as an afterthought.

“Oh, yeah, fine. Someone spiked the butterbeer last night.”

Luna smiled and nodded. “I had a feeling that might happen. Good thing I didn’t drink any last night.”

“Lucky you,” Hermione grimaced.

“So anyways, what I wanted to talk to you about was Ron.”

Hermione looked at Luna more closely. “You have my permission to date him. See you,” she turned and started to walk away.

“That’s not what I mean,” Luna said, grabbing Hermione’s arm and turning her around again. “What I mean is, I’ve been talking to Ron a lot lately and he’s seemed a bit upset. Last night he told me it was because you and Harry had pretty much ignored him since you started dating, and he thinks he just lost his two best friends.”

“Oh,” Hermione looked down at her shoes.

“So, please, just talk to him. Both you and Harry. Just because you and Harry are dating now doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have time for anyone else. People are starting to think you’re too stuck up to do anything else. If you haven’t noticed, you’ve been missing your head girl patrol duties for the past few weeks.”

“I-I have?” Hermione asked, shocked.

“Mhm,” Luna nodded. “I definitely wouldn’t expect that from you, Hermione Granger.”

“I wouldn’t expect that from myself either,” Hermione whispered.

Luna smiled smugly and withdrew her hand from Hermione’s arm. “So you’ll talk to Ron? And start taking your duties seriously again?”

“Absolutely,” Hermione nodded. And with that, she bid Luna goodbye and went to join Harry again in her room.

When she got there Harry sitting on her bed, a glass of water in his hands. He turned to look at her when she entered, and gave her a weak smile.

“Hi,” she said, returning a weak smile to his. “Luna talked to me…about Ron,” she said, and then proceeded to tell Harry everything Luna had told her.

“I feel terrible,” Harry muttered when she had finished.

“Me too.”

“We should talk to him.”

Hermione nodded. “But tomorrow. I’m not feeling up to it today.” She kissed Harry quickly and then got under her covers and buried her head in her pillows and fell fast asleep. Harry joined her a few seconds later.

Chapter Eight (Harry/Hermione): An Unexpected Announcement

“Hi, Ron,” said Harry later that night as he entered the seventh year boy’s dormitory.

“Oh. Hey, Harry,” Ron said, looking up from a letter he was writing. He tried to smile but it looked more like a grimace.

“So…” Harry said, trying to start a conversation. “Quidditch practice tomorrow afternoon. Looking forward to that?”

“Sure.”

Harry sighed. “Look, Ron, I know I haven’t been the greatest friend since me and Hermione started going out.”

“You’re not kidding. You barely talk to me anymore. I thought when I gave you my idea for this whole plan thing that you would just get a girlfriend…I didn’t think you would drop me like that.”

“I’m really sorry Ron. Really. Hermione and I…well, we haven’t acted much like friends…it’s just…I — we — are really sorry.”

Ron decided that this would probably be the best sort of apology he’d get, so he took it, and said, “Okay. It’s good now.”

Harry smiled. “So anyways…you and Luna eh? Getting pretty close?”

Ron blushed a bit. “She’s not so loony when you get to know her. Well, I mean, she’s not completely normal, but she’s really nice to talk to.”

Harry nodded, understanding. “It’s good you’ve got someone like her.”

“Yeah. So…how’re things with Hermione?”

“Really great. I can’t believe I ever imagined myself with other girls like Cho Chang. Hermione is so much better.”

Ron laughed.

***

November grew colder with every passing day. Harry and Hermione grew closer, as did Ron and Luna and Ginny and Dean. Homework also became harder. Quidditch practices became tougher; Harry wanted to win the cup this year since it was his last. As November turned to December, Hogwarts was turned into a winter wonderland. It was so beautiful that Dumbledore thought, why not share this beauty with others? And with that, an announcement was made.

“May I have your attention please, students,” Dumbledore said one evening after the dessert was cleared from the tables. The students quickly quieted down, eager to hear what was about to be said. Dumbledore smiled. “I have a very special and exciting announcement. Yesterday, something terrible occurred.” Quizzical expressions replaced the ones of excitement on the faces of the students. How could something terrible be special and exciting? Dumbledore continued, “A fire swept the halls of Salem School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogwarts’ sister school in North America, in the middle of the night. Everyone is safe, but the school is no more. Thus, I have been in contact with their headmistress, my cousin, Headmistress Kingman. We have decided that the students of Salem School will be coming here in one week to complete their studies until the school is rebuilt.”

Conversation and shouts of excitement suddenly broke out in the Great Hall. Dumbledore smiled and raised his hands, and the hall was quiet once again. “Therefore, I will need our Head Boy and Girl and the prefects to meet me outside the prefect meeting room after my announcements are finished.”

“There’s more?” whispered Hermione to Harry. He shrugged.

“This last announcement will be a treat, especially for all of our Quidditch players.” Dumbledore’s eyes sparkled. “This year, instead of playing games all year, each house Quidditch team will receive special training from one of four professional Quidditch teams, and then we will have a tournament at the end of the year.”

The Great Hall erupted in cheers, mostly from the Quidditch teams and Quidditch fans. Once everyone was quiet, Dumbledore went on.

“The four teams that will be joining us here at Hogwarts for the remainder of the year are: The Cudley Cannons,” Ron’s face lit up in happiness, “Puddlemere United, The Holyhead Harpies, and the Bulgarian Team.”

Hermione’s stomach flipped and her face paled as Dumbledore said these last words. Harry’s fists clenched.

“Quidditch captains, please join me up here to pick your teams.” Harry rose, as did the other captains, and walked up to where Dumbledore stood. He smiled at all of them and held out the bag to the Hufflepuff captain who stuck his hand in and pulled out a dark green stone. “Holyhead Harpies,” he said, and then moved over so that the Ravenclaw captain could choose.

She stuck her hand in and pulled out a navy blue stone; Puddlemere United. Draco Malfoy, the Slytherin captain stuck his hand in and pulled out a maroon stone. He grinned. “Bulgaria,” he said, and the Slytherin’s erupted in cheers, as did Ron.

There was only one team left, and Harry pulled out an orange stone. “The Chudley Cannons,” he said, and glanced at Ron who looked like he’d die of happiness.

“Well, there we have it!” cried Dumbledore happily. “The Quidditch teams will be arriving two days after the students of Salem arrive. And now, I ask that all prefects and heads meet me outside the prefect meeting room, and that everyone else goes and gets a good night’s sleep.”

Outside Dumbledore’s office, Hermione met up with an ecstatic looking Ron, along with the other prefects.

“Excited much?” Hermione laughed at Ron, who was bouncing on his toes. She shook her head, thinking he might not be able to get too much sleep that night. He nodded, his smile almost touching his eyes.

Just then, Dumbledore got there and opened the door for them and lead them inside.

The room was very plain. In the middle there was a long table with chairs down both sides for the prefects, the two at the very end for the heads. At the end by the head chairs was the chair for Dumbledore or McGonagall, whoever was running the meeting. Behind that was a blackboard with ideas for the year and possible Hogsmead trips scribbled on it. There were also bulletin boards around the room with notices and announcements and other things from past years.

Hermione took her seat at the end of the table across from Ron and beside Dumbledore and Brianna, another Gryffindor prefect who was also Ginny’s best friend in her year.

“So,” Dumbledore started as soon as everyone was settled. “I assume you all are very excited for Christmas, now that we have people coming.” His eyes sparkled as people nodded and laughed. Dumbledore smiled. “I will need you to plan a few things, such as the welcome feast when Salem arrives and then another one when the Quidditch teams arrive. I was also thinking of something to get people to get to know each other a bit…such as a winter dance.”

Everyone started to whisper to the person sitting next to him or her. Dumbledore cleared his throat, and everyone was quiet again. “I was thinking something wintery…but, it’s up to you. Just let me know when you’ve decided everything. Oh, and I think just fourth years and up, like the Yule Ball. You can maybe organize something smaller for the younger children, if you wish. And now, I’ll leave you with your Head Boy and Girl in charge.” Dumbledore winked at Ron and Hermione, and walked swiftly out of the room.

Ron glanced at Hermione, and she met his gaze. “Okay…” she said slowly, her eyes still on Ron. “Anyone have any ideas?”

Brianna spoke up from beside her. Brianna was a bubbly blonde who always had something to say about everything. “I was thinking, maybe we should do something wintery, like Dumbledore said. Something like, ice palacy. Sort of…winter fairy tail-ish.” She said, flipping her long blonde hair over her shoulder.

“I like that idea, Bri,” Hermione said. “Anyone have any objections?” Nobody said anything. “Okay, then our theme is Winter Fairy Tail Ice Palace,” she said, getting up. She waved her wand and cleared everything off of the board. They would need the whole thing now. She picked up the chalk and wrote the words on the board in big letters at the top. Then she said, “Okay, we’ll need to split into groups for things we’ll need like decorations, a band, food, invitations, stuff like that.”

Everyone was silent. Brianna rolled her eyes. “Hermione, not to be rude or anything, but maybe, since this theme was my idea I could help run it?”

Hermione sighed a sigh of relief that someone else was going to help take charge. Ron looked as lost as the shy Hufflepuff fifth year prefect.

“Great idea,” she said, and Brianna smiled and hopped up to join Hermione at the front.

ewalklover
A/N: This chapter was too long to post in one, so here's the other half!

“Okay. So, let’s start with bands. I was thinking the Weird Sisters…I know they were here for the Yule Ball, and that they were awesome, so it’d be really cool to get them again. Who wants to be in charge of that?” she said as Hermione wrote ‘Band’ and underneath it, ‘Weird Sisters’ on the board. A Slytherin sixth year raised his hand. “Brianna pointed at him. “Okay, since there are a lot of up we’ll go with our prefect partners. So Blake, you and Ebony will be in charge of getting the band.” Hermione wrote their names on the board underneath ‘Weird Sisters’.

“Next we’re going to need invitations. I think four people should do that, since there’s going to be a lot.” Everyone looked to his or her partner. Finally it was confirmed that the Ravenclaws (both fifth and sixth year prefects) would be doing that.

“Food,” Brianna said simply, and decided on the Hufflepuff and Slytherin fifth years. Then she went on to “Decorations. I think that’ll be everyone else, since it’s a big job.” She sighed and looked at the board. “Okay. I think that should be everything. I guess Ron, Hermione and I will be here if you need any help or have questions,” she glanced sideways at Hermione, who nodded and though, she’ll make a good head girl next year, and then continued, “And we’ll also be doing the decorations and giving you our ideas and such. And if anyone else has ideas, then feel free to share.”

“Is that all?” Hermione asked when she had finished. Brianna grinned and nodded. “Okay then, dismissed. Ravenclaws, I want a sample of your invite by next Friday before curfew. Slytherin sixth years, please try and book the band A.S.A.P., and if you cant get the Weird Sisters, then go for the next best band. Hufflepuff and Slytherin fifth years, I want a list of food by next Friday before curfew. And everyone else doing decorations, we’ll meet here next Friday after supper to discuss ideas and such.” She took a deep breath. “Okay, everyone, you can go now.”

***

Harry sat on his bed in his dormitory, thinking. So much had just happened. A new school was going to be staying here the rest of the year? The Chudley Cannons were going to be coaching his Quidditch team? Viktor Krum was going to be here?

Harry groaned with the last thought and laid back, his head hitting the pillows. Viktor Krum was Hermione’s old…boyfriend? He wasn’t sure how far they’d gotten, or if it had just been a sort of…fling. He knew they had kept in touch, but writing letters was different than talking to each other face-to-face.

He knew he would pummel Krum if he made any kind of move with Hermione. Or, at least he’d try to…he wasn’t sure how well he’d succeed…Krum was HUGE.

And why did he have to pick the Chudley Cannons to coach their team? He wanted to win, didn’t he? And the Chudley Cannons were notoriously known for losing. So what if they were Ron’s favourite? Harry wanted to win!

And what if Hermione met some really smart, handsome guy from Salem? Or Viktor Krum? What if she ditched Harry for him? Harry didn’t want to think of that happening. He knew she wouldn’t. Or would she?

Speak of the devil…

“Hey,” Hermione poked her head in the door.

Harry grinned. Sort of. “Hey,” he muttered.

“What’s wrong?” Hermione said, making her way over to Harry.

“What? Oh, nothing.” He moved over, making room for her on his bed and she lay down beside him.

There were a few minutes of silence. Then Hermione said, “Harry, you know there’s nothing going on between Viktor and I. I’m with you now. I love you, and you know that.”

Harry sighed. He knew she’d figure it out. “It’s just…he’s older, he’s a professional Quidditch player, not to mention he better looking—”

“Harry! I can’t believe you’d say that! No one is better looking in my eyes than you!”

Harry blushed slightly. “Okay. I guess you’re right. I’m over reacting.”

“I’m always right Harry.”

Harry grinned. “So I’m never right?”

“Nope.”

“Not even some of the time?”

“Nope. Never.”

“Ouch. Way to bruise my ego.”

“Aw. I’m sorry. Shall I kiss it better?”

“Yes, please.”
