If you want a game with a cliche storyline good run and gunning.. get Halo. If you want a game with a cliche storyline and great, innovative run and gunning, I'd advise this game.

The basic plot of the game is that you're a hard-loose cannon cop who's trying to put down a Russian crime syndicate. You name is Tequila.

it has a lot of Matrix-esque slow-mo shooting and stuff. The graphics ain't bad and there's an assload of killing. You get special points for "stylish killings" (I.E., killing five guys with head shots while sliding down a staircase railing in Slow motion.), which you can use to either heal yourself or use a special ability.

This game looks awesome. I downloaded the demo and it's fecking fun.

The demo was great.

Demo was great, but there is no way this game is innovating at all.

It takes completely from Max Payne, and improves the formula. Nothing wrong with that, the demo was great, but no way this game is innovating.

Agreed completely.

BlaxicanHydra
Your mother.

Smasandian
Dont get me wrong.

This game looks like a hell alot of fun.

BlaxicanHydra
I'm just joking.

Mišt
Is there any martial arts or is it all gunplay? Looks ok but I think I'd get bored..

Skeets

BlaxicanHydra
It's like Diehard.. except with Asians.

Smasandian
Or its like Hard Boiled.

BlaxicanHydra
.. or that. I call Tequila Jing-jang Mclain, 'cause I'm stupid like that.

Morridini
I just got to try the 360 demo.

I must say I am kinda disappointed. Everything just felt waay too easy. Silly how it is so much easier to aim when sliding down a handrail or jumping through the air then when standing still.

Also the Standoffs were also silly in my mind, they should have been event that would have been impossible to do in normal run and gun mode, but the two standoffs in the demo I could have easily managed by running and gunning.

However the game did seem kinda fun when I was running through the mission doing cool jumps and shooting everywhere. But absolutely not a game worth buying, ok to have the demo to spend 10min a month trying it.

BlaxicanHydra
What difficulty did you do it on?

Definitly a rent.

Your concerns are warrented. The standoffs I enjoyed. It brought something different the Max Payne genre of games. I also think its a big part of the movie. (I could be wrong about this).

I enjoyed it. I like how easy it was to shoot people. In the movies, Det Tequila is an unstoppable force and the game portrays that. Dont get me wrong, I played it on the medium difficulty and I was hit alot.

BlaxicanHydra
I got slaughtered on medium difficulty erm

Morridini
I'll give it another go at the hardest difficulty (I didn't notice any difficulty simply kept pressing A until the game started).

And sure the Standoffs were fun as they were something different, but they didn't fit into the game. I see no reason for Tequila to start a Standoff, just dive and shoot them all.

DanZeke25
I think the MP of this game could be REALLY fun.

I havnt check out the game at all but I gotta disagree with "Innovative" because it sounds like your describing max payne.

But they do.

It's from the John Woo movies. You have to have a standoff in a Chow Yun Fat-Woo movie.

max payne copied the John Woo formula.

Smasandian
But different medium.

And John Woo didnt have bullet time.

But they should be more overwhelming, make it a reason to have a Standoff, other then just doing something else. The way these games are made there should only be standoffs when you are in a ring of 50+ people with machine-guns, even though that would also be doable with the normal "run and gun".

I wanted too, but never got the chance to play either of the Max Payne games.

BackFire
Yeah, this is basically Max Payne with Asian characters and a story that isn't as cool.

Still not bad.

So you got all this from an 10 minute demo?

I still dont think you get it. It's in the movies, the game is based on the movies, so they should include the standoffs. The whole point of the game is to take parts of all those John Woo action movies on where you jump all over the place, slide down railings and such, and mostly every Woo movie has a standoff somewhere in there. Face Off I think had a few of them.

I understand that your arguement but every game has the same thing. Whats the point of offering 10 guns in an FPS when you can easily beat the game using only 3 guns. The point it gives an option the player to do whatever he wants to do. Same with these Mexican standoffs. It breaks the overall pace of the game so you consisently not doing the same thing. I'm also positive that it provides narrative to the overall story (considering the last standoff in the demo has talking invovled. Lastly, the standoffs make sense. Tequila gets surpraised by 5 men, how could he possibly run an gun overthem when he isnt running and gunning. ( I think one scene has him talking over a cellphone before the standoff)

Whose to say that other standoffs are going to be the same?

Spartan005
I played the demo a couple of days ago and it was great. I just don't know if I'm going to pay the full $60 for this because after a while it could get a bit repetitive.

Smasandian
It's an rental, probably the rebound game for Bioshock.

BlaxicanHydra
lol

Impediment
I downloaded the PS3 demo. Not a bad game. Not too bad at all. Like many before me have already said, it's Max Payne (Asian style) with Matrix Bullet-Time. I like the precision hit system, and the using of objects around you. However, this, to me, seems like nothing more than a rental. Nothing I would buy, personally.

Smasandian
Probably going to rent this on Wednesday. Should be a few good hours of shooting.

Soljer
Meh. It'd be twice as good if there was a good martial arts system in it.

I loved the Max Payne mod that added martial arts into the game. It didn't unbalance the game, and it doubled the play/replay value.

However, I don't see this game having a very big following, and, therefore, I don't see this game having a very big modding community. Shame.

Smasandian
Fun little game.

About 1/4 through it.

My only complaint is that the action is intense, but not enought varierty in the enemies, and doing cool actions are fun, but not enough of difference for them.

yeah, but stranglehold the john Woo video game isnt nearly as engaging or fun as max payne was at the time sad

yeah, in this day and age of video games you think we might be able to get a bit more diversity and possibilities in a video game. This game plays like a mediocre PS2 game with better graphics. It's fun, but only if you play in small doses other wise the gameplay become redundant and stale very quickly.

I wish they would have focused more heavily on the action moves. The action moves which are the focus of the game, feels like an after thought.

THe best part of the game is that it does plays smoothly

Alpha Centauri
Max Payne had so many amazing elements to it, it was an overlooked classic. If it didn't have those f*cking bloodlines levels and was a touch longer, it'd be a version of perfect in my opinion.

I got bored of the Stranglehold DEMO.

The slow motion gets kind of boring after a while.

I totally agree with you on that one.

I ****ing hated those ****ing levels....**** you screaming baby, **** you.

I just recently got Max Payne 2 on the computer for 9 bucks and absolutly loved it. Much better than the first, especially the facial animation. One of my favourite levels of all time is the funhouse level. Pure fun.

Alpha Centauri
I never played 2.

-AC

Smasandian
It's fun.

Fixed a few problems with the first, and no annoying jumping puzzles and I find that the locations are a bit better.

Smasandian
Man, this game is difficult.

It's the annoying difficult though on where its not your mistake that is the reason for your ****up, but because the developers just like to send millions of guys with heavy machine guns and all you have is a your regular weapons. Oh wait!!, did I just have 15 guys respawn behind me. Yeah, thats right, I just did.

Max Payne on the otherhand did it extremely well on where you have 5 guys running towards you and if you got beat it was because of your fault. This game on the otherhand is just countless and countless of guys going after you.

I'm done with this. It just to ridicolous. I dont have a problem with the difficulty, its just why cant the developers give you an save system on where if you get shot at the very last minute, you have to do the whole thing over again. I sure love quicksave.

Blax_Hydralisk
If only more games had Quicksave.

Smasandian
Yeah, because that feature hasnt been around for ages.

I wouldnt mind if they did the health system like Max Payne on where you can choose to use the painkillers at your leisure and not have what happens in this game is where your surrounded by enemies that rarely need, or ever need to reload and its impossible to get to an health pack before they shoot you.

At the last level, they can kill you in a few seconds.

Blax_Hydralisk
How's the Multiplayer?

maybe the PC version is different than the PS2 version, but max payne 2 on PS2 was garbage. The story went from exaggerated noir to just exaggeration. The gameplay was consistantly buggy and slow. It felt like a bad demo version for the first max payne. I take it the PC version is much smoother?

Smasandian
The second Max Payne is so good, so its probalby because of the PS2 version of being shit.

But the PC is good.

FistOfThe North
Just beat Stranglehold last night. It's a good game with ill graphics but i liked Max Payne 1 & 2 better even though this game had more moves it's just that they went a little too overboard with the moves. Max payne had a more realistic element to it.

I hope they come out with pt 3.

FistOfThe North
Max Payne, that is. And i'll only play it for the PC as well. Nothing can compare with a Hi-Res Max Payne game with a mouse.

Estacado
Does it worth the money?

Smasandian
Totally not worth the money.

Rented it on Tuesday night, finished it, or almost finished that Wednesday night and I didnt play it during the day.

Rental at best.

So you're hungry for rental games..I had to say it. I left then came back to do it, my bad..lol

((The_Anomaly))
I played this game and didn't like it at all. The only cool thing, IMO, was the destructible environments.

Smasandian
Yeah, they're pretty neat.

Estacado
I bought it and regreted it I'm gonna get some achievments then trade it back for something else also I'm pretty disapointed in the multiplayer as well.

Damn. I wish I could trade games i beat in 7 days for a full refund. They'll only exchange the game for the same exact one. That or they'll buy it off you for $30 bucks, half of what you purchased it for less than a week ago.

I've tried other methods but short of getting escorted outta the store for being trying to find loopholes or being creative, as i put it, there's no way around it.

So I'll just trade in "Stranglehold" for the $30 bucks and add it to my Halo 3 reserve.

I can't exchange for another one without paying either though I only have to pay 5-6 dollars for the trade.

As for Stranglehold it is the shortest game I ever played on 360 it only has 4-5 hour gameplay which sucks and the game isn't that good to replay it many times so it's a definite trade for me.

Whoa. That "The Death of Superman" DVD finally came out on? Time to pick it up asap.

Stranglehold was hard at times. Like the Ship dock/yard part. I was stuck their for a while. Some of the bosses were kinda hard to but it is a relatively short game (that fat boss gave me the most challenge). And your right, it doesn't have replay value. I did purchase mostly all the movies and the other stuff John Woo sold at his bar and that was ok, but i haven't touched it since i turned it off when i beat it last week.

I played a couple of minutes of it before shutting it off on the newly unlocked "hardboiled" level but it got boring and not that hard at all. Next stop for that game is Gamestop.

Blax_Hydralisk
How was the multiplayer?

FistOfThe North
I don't have live. Might get it for Halo 3, though.

But i read Gameinformer's mag review on the multiplayer version of Strangleholdand they said it sucked. It's some of the game environments only smaller. and i don't think you can "Tequila (Bullet) Time" but i'm not 100% sure.

SaTsuJiN
I played the demo and I have to say I was crackin up.. every 2 minutes doves flyin out of nowhere...

precision aim spam ftw also

Blax_Hydralisk
I know, that was so fun. heh heh.. blowing people's eyes out and stuff.

IHateCaesar
how did this get in the History

ragesRemorse
Im still disappointed with how crap this game is
