This is Q from Star Trek.

Q has done' nothing to suggest he's universal in power. Or even galactic. He seems omnipotent only with in a certain area. or in realities that he creates.

Endless Mike
Q have no feats that put them anywhere near Mxyzptlk. They are Cube being level at most.

True.

However it would be real easy for a crossover to be done (and there are Star Trek comics) whereby it could be hinted that Mxy and Q are one and the same ....or that even if they are not the SAME imp that they are both 5th dimension imps.

they do have similar MO ....even though featwise there is a world of difference. They both have reality bending powers, and both love to have certain 'tests' that they plague specific characters (for Mxy Superman, for Q Piccard) with ad infinitum. And both are always 'defeated' in ways that boggle explanation (as if they almost wanted to be 'defeated').

I believe i once read some Marvel or DC comic that seemed to hint that Mxy in DC was Impossible Man in Marvel. If I remember correctly, it was stated that Mxy and IM are the same character .....although there was one where they were fighting (but that was supposed to be their different personalities). Anyways, Mxy is supposedly Impossible Man ....but with different character traits and avenues of displaying power.

In much the same vein, it could easily be surmised by some comic book writer that Q is either Mxy, Batmite, or some other 5th dimension imp hereto unheard of (and there is an entire dimension of them). In world's Finest Mxy and Batmite were even jumping from realm to realm, including jumping into the 'real world.'

Thus a lot could be said about Q, and about Mxy, and about the two being the same (or related by origin) character(s).

And it would have logical weight.

Anyways, as for the basis of this debate, it can easily be said that featwise Mxy wipes the multiverse with Q. No contest ....feat wise few can even HOPE to stand up to Mxy.

However, if we really wanted to go deep into things, one could also say the two are the same. As for the difference in feats ....remember that for the most part Impossible Man in Marvel is simply a green weird-looking shapeshifter reminiscent of Plastic Man in DC. It is only that evident when other characters make off-hand comments as to the true extent of his powers, and how sometimes he just does off-hand feats that GREATLY extend beyond shapeshifting (e.g. when he swapped the universes for Superman and the Surfer by deciding to do so with Mxy). And then there are all those allusions by Mxy that he and Impossible Man are the same being.

Yet, for the most part all IM does is shapeshift ....only revealing some crazy @$$ abilities once in a blue moon.

Hence, Q's lack of Mxy-level feats do not necessarily mean that he is not capable of it. A case could be made. And the feats that Q have done greatly surpass those of IM (who, apart from that whole universe switch thing, and some other nice 'surprises,' generally only shapeshifts).

Conclusion:

Based on on-panel feats, Mxy wins with ease.
HOWEVER, it could easily be surmised that Mxy, IM, and Q are one and the same being. Or (in the case of Mxy and Q), both 5th dimension imps.

One more thing:

Q always talks about the 'Continuum,' and how there are a host of other beings JUST LIKE HIM over there with powers JUST LIKE HIS. And his actions are EXACTLY like those of Mxy.

And finally, he can be any shape and form he wants to be.
Maybe even a little cartoony man with a bowler hat, a cane, and a penchant for silly magic tricks (whcih when needed can extend into multi-dimensional reality warping).

BTW: Just decided to google Impossible Man and found the following entry in Wikipedia. Kind of ties in with what i was saying:

In many aspects, the Impossible Man seems to have been modeled after the DC comics character Mr. Mxyzptlk. This has been implied by DC comics themselves; for instance, in Superman Vol. 2 #50, Mxyzptlk mentions that he's been "having fun with my new fantastic friends" and later "back to my four new friends", referring to the Fantastic Four; he uses the expression "it's blubbering time" (a play on the Thing's standard battle-cry "it's clobbering time"wink, and says that he's been having "a backlog of mayhem in another dimension", probably referring to the Marvel universe. Mxyzptlk keeps altering his form constantly in this issue, and also changes into a form very similar to that of Impossible Man and says "Sometimes it's just impossible to remember what I look like from world to world"; as with the other keywords, "fantastic' and "four", the word "impossible" appeared in the comic in italic type. The "four fantastic new friends" are only seen from the legs down, but wear Fantastic Four outfits, and convince Mxy to return to the DCU by ignoring him, just as the FF did in the Impossible Man's first appearance.

In 1996, the Impossible Man and Mxyzptlk teamed up in the DC/Marvel crossover story Silver Surfer vs. Superman, in which the two imps, having met in a small dimension that each entered during teleports, combined their powers to swap universes for the Silver Surfer and Superman. Here, the power of the Impossible Man was more like Mxyzptlk's own reality warping powers rather than just shapeshifting. In this comic, Mxyzptlk and the Impossible Man have a fight where they keep changing into various characters from their respective universe, for instance the Hulk and Doomsday. The differences were profoundly displayed between the two characters - chiefly, in that Impossible Man's motive is pure fun and abhorred true violence, while Mxyzptlk was darker and more interested in destructive chaos, and to Impossible Man's astonishment and anger, is prone to lying. After returning the two to their respective Universes, he gave Mxy a respectful handshake...only to reveal an electric buzzer underneath. The two immediately 'Popped' away, hurling mutual insults.

Akuki
If Mxy has his speaking backwards trick on then Q can win, I think he's been stated to have an IQ of over 1200 or so.
