Is Oprah a racist?

Oprah has refused to support presidential candidates throughout her career, now she is very strongly campaigning for a candidate. Why? What did she have against all the previous candidates? They were white. Obama is black, that is why Oprah is supporting him, no other reason. Oprah only sees skin color. Sure she acts like a decent person, but she only cares about political candidates skin color if it becomes a question of her support.

She probably is. In my experience (AKA my family and School, lol.) most black people are subconsciously biased.

Better reason than their religion anyways.

I've never liked Oprah and I've had a feeling for many years now that she was somewhat of a closet racist, like Spike Lee, just further in the closet.
Regardless though, she can support Obama all she likes; for whichever reasons, she's a private citizen. He isn't Black either, he mulatto... he's as "white" as he is "black". So take that Oprah!

She's not racist. She has made relations with people of every race, sexual orientation, religion, and gender.
She is more than a decent person. She has done so many things for people all over the world. She has awarded a poor white family with enough money to buy thier own house, so they can start over. She fought to pass stricter rape laws in a small nation in Africa.
I mean do you actually watch her show ?
I'm voting for Hillary over Obama. I guess that makes me racist now, cuz I won't vote for the black guy ?

There have been other “black” candidates but none with a real chance but I didn’t see her supporting them either. While I could see her supporting him more because of his skin color I still wouldn’t call that a racist or even prejudice for that matter but more bias. Much the same that I don’t like to support a candidate that hasn’t served in the military, if you are going to be the commander and chief of the military I think you should have at least been in it.

is racism the right term? i think its possible that she has a bias for a black candidate, but your implication is that she chose not to endorse other candidates on the grounds that they were/are white. thats not a sound deduction imho.

So then, Obama is the first candidate that held 'Opra'priate political views? It's a racist thing. Given mere probability, there have to have been candidates that held views Oprah agreed with before, the difference was they were white. Obama is the first 'non white' candidate that held her views, not the first candidate that held her views.
Racism is the correct term. The implication is that she chose to endorse this candidate on the grounds that he is not white.

wrong.
racism would imply that she chose to not endorse any candidates because they were/are white.
perhaps she chose to endorse obama simply because he is black. that would imply a bias. however you have no grounds for which to accuse her of refusing to endorse candidates in the first place. none. zip. nada.
there is nothing certain to suggest that she actively refused any edorsements. at best all you can suggest is that her bias for a black candidate brought her into political endorsement. because, as you said, she never before bothered to openly support a presidential candidate.
:edit: what you're attempting is on about the same level as calling a guy 'racist' because he never had a black girlfriend. its baseless and completely built on presumption.

I consider a sexual extra-marital affair, perversion. These are MY moral beliefs. What he did was "perversion". A pervert practices perversion. Clinton WAS and probably still IS a pervert. I do not want a perverted President. I have already pointed out that most and maybe all politicians do things similar to Clinton, Clinton just got caught AND it was all over the world AND he lied.
I don't want to know what gets a person's rocks off behind clsoed doors...just make sure those doors are not the entrance to the oval office. I do not like liars, either. That is why I haven't voted at all...yet.

You posted Schector's post above mine, which in reality, it was posted after mine, so now it looks like I basically regurgitate what he said, instead of the other way around, ass.
Well, as long as you realize this is your own personal meaning of the word "perversion" and not canon. Seriously though, there are worse things a president can do than have an affair, that's a personal matter; it doesn't affect the country. The lying and attempted cover-up were far worse, I thought.

Unless marriage is "natural" in some way, then sure. But we all know marriage is a man-made concept. Was it wrong? I think so. Perverted? No, he just had sex with someone other than his wife. Are sex toys perverted? Maybe, you might have a point there, I stress might.
Personally, I rather have a President who likes to **** behind his wife's back, than a President who likes to **** the tax payers out of money.

No matter how you want to justify it....Clinton did perverted things and then lied about it and then he got impeached under perjury charges...bla bla....

A lot of people have managed to do that. Her fame came from entertaining those who are easily entertained.
And her recognition - I despise the lazy, ignorant, cowardly people thirsting for recognition who jump on the safe wagons and trumpet only the safe "truths", those for which they know no consequences will befall them. While Oprah wouldn't DARE risk a backlash by letting go of her political correctness, she is quite happy joining up with her so called ''experts'' to spur all kinds of crap about the wars and conflicts which she knows nothing about.
She is quite happy handing out advice to Americans about how to live their lives, in her patronizing, over pretentious TV show.
People who do TRUE charity and help the world are those who nobody hears about. Those are the doctors, nurses and people who risk their lives every day to help people, who disregard their colour, ethnicity and religion in order to help, who put themselves in physical danger every day.
She is a closed racist, she is also sexist towards men in some of her shows.
Her views are generic and simple, and those who are moved by her wisdom are the people who know no better.

''I don't give a shit bla bla bla''
Apparantly you do.
AS far as overhyped goes, there is a long list, Angelina Joile, Diana, Madonna and a whole lot of unworthy celebrities.
Oprah is the topic of conversation, and the other 'celebrities' including Diana are irrelevant to her success or rather failure.
Devil King
Pointing out that my comment was off-topic is one thing. Assuming I was trying to insult you is another.
No. You didn't hit a nerve. Turning on the television (or internet or radio) and having to listen to people whine about some ditz that died a decade ago hits a nerve; especially when I'm trying to watch the news and I've got to hear about Oprahs latest pet project or watch that scrathy footage of Diana walking through the turnstiles of that hotel.
My point is, Oprah is the same thing in my opinion. The whole female population of America thinks she's their every-woman. This is what people think is so great about Diana. She was a princess, but she could "relate" to every woman that picked up the trash rags that kept her in our faces, and apparently caused her own death. It just seems that people don't choose their heroes anymore, they're chosen for us.
chillmeistergen
I think America likes to go on about Diana even more than we do. Which must be very annoying, but then princess Diana was different to Oprah, perhaps just as an annoying presence, but very different.

I remember one time she saw a bunch of black girls playing with white dolls. She got them took off her and gave them black ones. Or something like that. Shes a fat racist ***** to be honest.
TheSentry
Sorry for being so rude about it but she angers me so much.
leonheartmm
oprah probably isnt a racist. she is a silly little woman who started off good but then got too full of herself. she believes she deserves special treatment, and is an authority over all psychological and socioeconomic problems. and most or all guests in her show and/or professionals{dr robin} are there to support her opinion and kiss her butt. shes also a hypocrite, simultaneously inviting and praising revealing popstars/destiny's child etc and at the same time doing shows on there being too much SKIN out there. she also turns a blind eye to the wrongs america is doig to the world and the human toll and has no problem believing the official statements of the government. a dum patriot is what im hinting at. thers also the contradiction between her rather staunch relegious beleifs of the lutherian/newborn church and her open mingling with liberal people and having aliberal lifestyle.
she is a billionaire and percentage wise, she doesnt do a lot of poor people a lot of favours by giving the miniscule amout of charity she does. angelina etc are a lot better. shes just a woman on a power trip with misguided views{im talking about the staunch feminist approach she takes and the types of feminism she sdhered to and how much she blames on men as opposed to family/social problems which arent truly patriarchal in nature}. and her support of obama IS probably because of his race.
but she isnt a raCIST per se'. in that, she doesnt hate the other candidates nor people based on race. shes a lot of thing but not a racist.
on a different note, oprah and dr phil are both oncredibly stupid and their absence on tv wud be better than their presence.

She is a closed racist, she is also sexist towards men in some of her shows.
Her views are generic and simple, and those who are moved by her wisdom are the people who know no better.
True, many people have brought themselves up from being extremely poor, but how many of them have been as successful as Oprah? Most end up as middle-class workers who make a comfortable living.
As far as I know, Oprah doesn't mention wars or anything controversial in her talkshows. She talks about domestic problems and how to help people around the world, most notably the hurricane Katrina victims. You may call this being a coward, but I see it as being an intelligent marketer. She would probably lose half her audience as well as huge amounts of publicity if she starts talking about not pulling troops out of Iraq.
Doctors and nurses are paid for their services. It's their job. Most of them do it for the money and couldn't care what happens to their patients after they are paid. The TRUE charity-workers that you mean, I think, are missionaries and volunteers who go to overseas to rebuild war-torn countries.
As far as I've seen, she treats all genders and all races equally. If she does treat whites somewhat poorly, she herself dealt with huge amounts of racism growing up, and she can't be blamed.
Like I've already said, her opinions are simple so they will catch on easier. No one wants to hear something so "deep" that 80% of the population can't figure out. Could you please clarify with me by what you mean by her statements being "generic"?

I don't think Oprah is racist, but neither is she colorblind. She probably sees Obama as something like the Great Black Hope.

Why, thank you, sir.
After about 2 years, my writer's block finally lifted, so I've been busy in short-story land. I'm gonna send it out to mags soon so I can begin collecting the next generation of rejection slips.

To be fair, she's probably seen the fact that he's the first non-white person to have a chance of winning. Nevertheless, it's still racist to a degree.

Oprah is just human. Just like all of us. You guys are calling her idiotic, bigotted, etc. But I laugh, because it seems you guys are trying to imply that you are somehow better.
She's rich, she has her opinions, some of them may be misguided or generic, but she does what she can. She doesn't owe the entire world anything, but she tries to do what she can (atleast from what she percieves as right).
Now, if all of you guys are selfless, giving, non-judgemental, non-bigotted saints, then okay, I can see where you stand to judge her. But since none of you are, I don't see how any of your criticisms of Oprah are valid.

I used to hate that in the older RB6... PM your account name, I'm going to buy as Xbox2 soon.
Halo is "the shit" though, regardless of the hacks online.

I love both. Halo is t3h pwn, and Rainbow 6 vegas is t3h rulage.

I think he came into the lime light during her battle with the mad cow disease or something like that, and had a huge battle on her hands. I didn't know it was related to mad cow until later, at that time, I just thought she had something against the beef industry (a lot of animal rights people do, same with Vic would be the same with the meat industry and the treatment of animals while they are about to be slaughtered, it's really a battle that is more then just her).
I don't watch her show b/c I am not into ANY talk shows, but she doesn't bother me. She did bring some dignity to it, as I always equated talk shows to soap operas, and the story lines.

I never watched her show much, but "all men are guilty until proven innocent"? really? I don't watch soap operas or talk shows, but she did give credibility back to the talk show business.
Somehow, I get the strange feeling the entire world culture is attacking feminism, I wondered before, if this has anything to do with the war in Iraq or maybe a possible female president, something is going on, and it's been encouraged in the past 10 years or so.
I don't have any ill or positive feelings about Oprah, she's just like anyone else in that field.
I think our group mind is coming to something very negative, let's hope I'm wrong, I feel a bad war coming. It's like itching at every aspect of who we are, I can't describe it as a spirit or not, it's just there, and it's world wide, not only in this country.
Sad.

Why does her choice have to be racist? why can't it be just wanting to see a change in the white house as well as the country? This country has been ran by white people since they settle here. So what if she supports the Black guy to be the next president, is every white person that does not support Obama consider racist? Personally I would prefer to see Obama or Hillary as the next president or even a Latin, Asian, or Indian etc. Change can be a great thing, unless you let racism stand in the way.

There is nothing wrong with a woman or a black person being a president. But as long as they are pro-life and stand for other stuff then yea I would vote for them.
It just seen abit strange for her to go after him. When Alan Keys were running and let go just because he was prolife.Sounds abit like the dems don't let anyone black ran for president if they are not f or abortion.jm

I don't know if she is, or isn't. But, she does go out of her way to take of her kind. It is very evident.
And who cares? She's earned it, and she's trying to bridge the gap for her people. That's how I see it.
