To keep the brain warm...the brain is a very blood hungry organ. We evolved with humongo sized brains...relative to the rest of our body, AND these brains eat up about 20% of all of our body'sygen despite the fact that they are like a 20th of our total body mass. Keep in mind...we evolved through an ice age and those adapted best to their environment survived. If your brain gets cold...you get stupid and die.
